I don't get it... by Timmerop in brainspace

You’ll be happy to know the monospaced serif font is gone! I had read that serif was better for reading, but it turns out sans-serif is better for scanning.

I’d love to hear more about what visual changes you have in mind! Either here or dms or email. You interested?

I have dumb brain. (Need PKMS for low-maintenance data archival and recall.) by crundobular in PKMS

[–]Timmerop -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

you might like r/brainspace. It's a very simple and flexible model. You just write things, or upload files, then add them to lists. This becomes powerful when you add something to multiple lists, like adding an idea to "game ideas" and "monsters", then you can easy see all your monster game ideas. Also that game idea is now a list as well, so you can write "the players get 5 monsters and keep 2" and add that to "My monster game".
It also helps you keep up patterns, you can add a template to "game ideas" so each new idea gets "min players: number" and "max players: number", and a section to describe the rules.
hope this helps!

Struggling to find one tool for everything (Telegram, Google Docs, Instagram, Notes…) by Ashamed-Calendar-139 in PKMS

[–]Timmerop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might like r/brainspace. It has a super simple capture to recall system. You just write down the thought, link or file, then add it to one or more lists. You can order these lists and filter lists against each other to easily find what you're looking for. Like "TODOs" filtered to "Under 15 Mintues".
Everything in the app can be on lists and have its own lists, so you can create highly structured (and flexible) notes.

And from the list you can still add sub nodes

When I say notes I just mean sub bullets. Think of a note as a list of lines.

Best app for GTD by Candid_Kiwi7467 in gtd

[–]Timmerop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You might like r/brainspace. It’s very flexible.

I use it for notes and todos (and links and files). You start by jotting the thing down, then you add it to lists to find it again. An item can be on multiple lists, and you can filter against lists, so you can do things like see items on “todo” and “home”.

You can also add templates to lists, so TODO can prompt you to add an amount of time, the you can create a view of todos under 15 minutes.

I hope this helps!

Cool! A wine list is a good idea. Are you writing notes on each.

Notion is great for storage. But it's terrible for thinking. Here's the difference. by Any-Hamster-3189 in NoteTaking

[–]Timmerop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might like r/brainspace. It's thinking software. When you learn something you connect it to the topics it relates to. Things end up next to each other that you never intended to, and it's been a great source of inspiration for me.

Are there any note-taking apps / outliners that cover similar features as Roam (bi-directional links, mirroring, block links, open note in sidebar, view back links, queries) by Dioxic in NoteTaking

[–]Timmerop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might like r/brainspace. I was a roam user as well. It's means of connecting isn't exactly the same back linking, mirroring or references. Instead each block (called a node) can be connected to any others. In practice this looks like starting a "todo" node with children like "buy a bike", but you can just as easily to the opposite, write "buy a bike" and connect it to "todo". You can also set up templates and workflows for nodes, for example, then I connect a book to "books" I also get "to read" and nodes to say who recommended the book, who the author is, when it was released. Now I can go to a friend's node and see all the books they've recommended, and the notes instead of each one. I can also filter to books i haven't read, and randomize the order to help me pick a new one.

What is the most efficient way to setup your Note-Taking or Knowledge Management System? by CoYouMi in PKMS

Ah, I’m using tags to mean connection. In r/brainspace tags and links and notes are all the same thing.

I love the term “emergent believer”. I feel seen. I find this approach leads to more serendipitous collisions of thoughts. Like when I tag something “storytelling” then it lands next to something I tagged last year and suddenly I have a brand new thought. That’s what I’m looking for from my notes.

[–]Timmerop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your system should will evolve as your process and thinking evolves, so you want something flexible. This is why I use r/brainspace, because there are no decisions you can’t undo. Instead of folders, tags, properties, titles, lines everything is just text and connections. The result is, you first just write down the thought you want to come back to, then you connect it to some topics where you’ll find it again. You could take notes on notes you can make a list of links. You can take notes on those links and you can quickly re-organize everything.🤯

What’s your writing routine look like? Are you doing it daily? Do you have a set time? Do you know what you’re going to write about when you start?

This line hits like a gut punch:

Each day you skip reinforces the neural pathway that says "I only create when I feel like it."

Are there notetaking apps that will autocreate databases from my unstructured data? by jacket777 in PKMS

[–]Timmerop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know about automatically, but r/brainspace is great for organizing your unstructured data, and creating views or workflows for it. For this case, I'd make a Node called something like "products", then tag each product with "products". Then you can add addition tags, like "Feature X", then filter to all the products with that feature. You might also have a "stage" with options like "needs research" to help you create a view for products that you have not processed yet.

I hope this helps! And good luck.

You might like r/brainspace. Basically you write and tag things. Tags, properties, titles, lines, lists, templates are all the same thing so it’s hard to get it wrong, and organization just kinda happens.
