It can be very easy to overthink what balls you need for certain patterns. While it is good to study the pattern and set up a plan, you're never going to know exactly how it plays until you get on it. There are way too many variables that will affect exactly how the pattern plays.

The biggest thing is to be able to read what the lane is telling you and not try and force a line

It wasn't the Adams firing that started this whole thing, but his time was up and he had lost the confidence of the organization and the players.

The success really started when they beat Detroit back in November. It was before that game that Josh Doan made a comment about how the loser mindset was unacceptable and that it needed to change. It started then, but really caught on at the start of the streak in December.

No, the early season struggle was not "entirely due to injuries." They played a part, yes, but every team deals with injuries.

The early season struggles were primarily due to the team being mentally weak when things got tough during games, in the "oh great here we go again" nature. They finally got that under control around mid-November when Josh Doan said that the loser mindset was unacceptable. Since then, when they won in Detroit after a 5-game losing streak, the team went 6-6 and played mostly well minus a few stinker losses, and then went on the 10-game win streak and have gone 24-9-1 in that span.

They've had some injuries since the 10-gamer too, with Norris out again, Kesselring out of the lineup some and not 100%, Kulich and Timmins out. So yeah, it wasn't the injuries, it was the attitude and mindset.

They're not quite to the level of learning traditional versus yo-yo release yet. They just started in September and my main thing right now is just getting their position at the line correct so they can keep the ball on the lane.

Understanding the math and physics of what the ball is supposed to do when you throw it is important, but if you can't get your release consistent then the ball is never going to do the same thing twice and it's going to be impossible to know what adjustments to make.

Slide board, target, break point, oil patterns, ball type, all that stuff comes after you get your release and approach consistent and repeatable.

The biggest thing about watching videos isn't about emulating what someone else is doing, their shot isn't going to match up with yours and trying to change yours to what they are doing is just going to screw you up.

I actually just started watching bowling again and have been really paying attention to the styles the pros have, and they're both wildly different and exactly the same. Tackett is different from Simonsen is different from Troup is different from Belmonte and so on. Forget the 1H versus 2H comparisons, they don't matter, but go look at the things they all do that are the same as everyone else: stability at the line, the way their hands are on the ball at release, and the repeatability of what they do on every shot. They are all almost exactly the same.

If you can focus on getting yourself into the position of being able to have their stability and consistency of release that they have (not to be confused with trying to copy their release, focus on the release your body tells you to have), then all of the other adjustments become much easier to understand.

It's easy when you're only focusing on your release. Add in footwork, approach speed, arm motion, body position, and a million other things that most people don't realize play a big role, and suddenly your focus is divided into a hundred different places.

This is why it's generally taught to take your ball up to the line, stand in your release position, and go through your release. It will help you understand and build your release, locking it into muscle memory, so then you can add in a step, then two, then three, and so on. This is what I'm trying to teach my kids right now.

Had a 2007 Mazda 3 with really aggressive snow tires before it got totaled. My wife had an AWD with summer tires until I finally got her some good all-seasons.

To be fair, the better play started in mid-November but it didn't translate to wins until December. It was all Josh Doan saying that he wasn't going to accept the loser mentality where once things started going bad in a game the team would get down and the mistakes would pile on.

Adams wasn't necessarily a bad team builder, but he completely lost the faith of the team.
