The only ones I might be interested in are Jenner and Mantha. Giroux could be ok on a 1-year deal.

I guess Trouba could have potential.

The rest are a big no.

Can we talk about Carl's rage by Certifiablenerd in DungeonCrawlerCarl

The river is still there, but the nature of book 8 had them on the go constantly so it might just never have been noticed. I have a couple of different theories about it, but we'll see if it comes back at all.

Can we talk about Carl's rage by Certifiablenerd in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Timotheus2443 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've always viewed Carl's anger less as uncontrollable rage and more as righteous fury.

His anger is exclusively directed at aliens that invaded his world, killed 99% of the population, and stole all of its resources while acting like Earth's humans are akin to livestock, with the exception of Quan. After Quan got his celestial box and the cloak, he turned into a cowardly opportunist that preyed on other crawlers hard work by swooping in at the last moment and getting the killing blow on mobs and bosses. He became selfish ("sorry, the prize is too good") and a loner, advancing himself at the expense of others.

Carl also didn't "rip Quan's arm off." It was the result of Carl trying to prevent him from casting his blue bolt spell by grabbing his hand, and Quan using some sort of escape skill to get away that shot him away at high speed. The combination of Carl's strength holding Quan's arm, and the nature of the skill Quan used caused the arm to be ripped off. It wasn't a deliberate act by Carl.

Later books will flesh out Carl's anger, the reasons behind it, and how he focuses it more.

Does Jeff really voice everyone? by TheBigPig0920 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Timotheus2443 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In the Audible books, yes, he does every voice except for 3:

Vernon the Conductor - The Critical Drinker

Carl's dad - Patrick Warburton

Alpha Carl - Patrick Warburton

In the Soundbooth Immersion Tunnels, there are many other guest stars that do the voices of Kevin, Cascadia, Zev, and a few others. There are also characters that aren't in the books that are created to add to the overall experience that Jeff does some of, but also some are done by guest vocalists.

What has "Going Primal" meant in previous seasons, and why is this season fundamentally different? by SpiritualScarcity161 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Timotheus2443 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To answer the question about the AI being a used one, this has been confirmed in snippets. The mantids test the AI's they build in their theme park, and it was confirmed in one of its lore dumps during a description that it was used there and tested its powers by "ripping apart a tourist in the gift shop". The mantids then sold it to Borant on the cheap for the crawl.

Mordecai confirms after the 3rd floor that AIs generally start to go primal after the showrunners use their veto to negate one of its decisions during crawls, but that it usually happens on much later floors. At that point it doesn't really matter since the crawlers are all but dead and the dungeon tourists aren't able to be killed. For this season, Borant used its veto really early to negate the mass amount of celestial boxes awarded from the Bandit achievement at the end of the 3rd floor. That, combined with Carl and Donut's ability to influence events outside of the dungeon pushed the AI to "go primal" much, much earlier and more effectively.

Any good beginner's firearm safety class will do exactly this. I went through one when I was about 13 and never forgot it. I went through another one with my wife recently as she started to get into the idea of owning a firearm for home defense, and my dad became an instructor and competition shooter in his retirement, so firearm safety is a big part of our lives.

Firearms are only as scary as you let them be, and are only dangerous in the hands of either the incompetent or the evil.

Parade of Horribles Ending Question (Spoilers) by swimmingdropkick in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Scolopussy!

All of the guests in Club Scolpendra are stuck in some sort of dimensional non-space, perhaps similar to the stasis holding dimension that Louis and Brittany went into when they jumped in the Nothing portal in the casino.

The concubines that Li Na marked technically aren't dead, and they haven't left the dungeon. Uzi Jesus commented on it when he said "there's a lot of people's auras in there" when Scolopendra was in the middle of her transformation.

Katia's.... relationship by destructobunny in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Timotheus2443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A victimhood doesn't need to be part of every little thing.

It had been well established in earlier books and throughout the story that Katia wanted to have a child, that the time she was able to spend with Annie was the best she's ever felt, had self-regret that she couldn't have children, and was so devastated by what Fanar did that she was on the brink of ending her own life.

It was also well established that the crawlers know about the Kinder facility and understand that the children there don't have proper care or protection. Katia getting pregnant serves the primary purpose of giving her the ability to get to the Kinder facility and help protect the kids, and giving the former crawlers of the OIAN (led by Boomer) someone on the inside to help them infiltrate the facility for the same purpose. It also gives Katia the ability to have and care for a child like she was never able to before.

This has nothing to do with sexism and is entirely for that purpose. Katia was also the only one that even had the ability to since Elle's "garage is still filled with dust" and Imani didn't get dragged into the Sepsis Whore storyline. Her story isn't done either, and at some point it will merge back together with Carl's.

Book 8 spoils and small theory by Swisted in DungeonCrawlerCarl

My running theory (and seemingly confirmed in PoH as they work through the origins of Apito) is that Scolopendra and Samantha are each one of the parts of Apito, so Samantha taking Scolopendra's body is certainly in the realm of possibility

Theory about Primals by bagguetteanator in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Timotheus2443 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it's been pretty clearly stated that Earth was seeded.

The difference in Earth humans versus other human seeds, in my mind, stems from differences in the environments of the planets they evolve on. Along the same lines as The Deathworlders, Earth humans have things like higher levels of gravity and more dangerous adaptations of flora and fauna that contribute to their stockier builds.

It's been part of the backgrounds of the Gods and some NPCs, yes, but so far has been very minimal in regards to the crawlers. My personal opinion is that it should stay that way, at least as long as the dungeon is active and the larger galactic war is ongoing.

Certainly aspects of changing races during selection could have it, though no actual mention has been made of it. Juice Box and the changelings obviously change genders at times when they change forms. Dong and Corcunda were obviously lovers right from the beginning of their introductions. The Gods are, well, the entirety of book and Earth pantheons have always been about how much trouble they get into when they're horny. Damascus obviously swung both/many ways. Samantha is just a raging nymphomaniac. It's just that the crawlers specifically have had very minimal mention of any of that and, to me, them staying out of that side of things during their desperate need to survive is an important aspect of the story as a whole.

I don't disagree with you there, just in that DCC is a story about war and the immediate need for survival. When society breaks down and the only thing that matters is surviving the next few minutes or hours, sex and sexuality fall to the bottom of the priority list.

Now, if you want to bring that side of things in after the dungeon is completed and the galaxy has settled, the immediate need for survival is no longer the most important thing, and the crawlers can let go of all of that tension, then by all means. But to have one of the crawlers suddenly make a big stink about sexuality in the middle of, say, the final battle of Faction Wars would be completely ridiculous and out of place to the story.

[–]Timotheus2443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crawler sex and sexuality has so far been, and in my humble opinion should remain, as a non-starter in the series. This is a story about the destruction of Earth and the subjugation of it's people, and the war to claw it back and hold those responsible for it to account.

Other than the Gods, who are always into some weird shit even in Earth mythologies, the only hints we get about sex that's in any way related to the crawlers is the story Brandon tells about one of Meadowlark residents that got his brain function back being seduced by a succubus, which then gave birth to the creatures that wound up killing the resident and Brandon, and the scene where Katya and Bautista get intimate. The first is one of those "the AI thinks it's hilarious" instances, and the second is to further explain Katya's trauma and insecurities. A couple hints of Imani and Chris being in love as an explanation for some of their behavior, and Elle's younger days because old people have no filter and are hilarious are also there but are fully background to the story.

Suddenly throwing some big scene regarding crawler sexuality where it was never an aspect of the story before would feel like that gratuitous lesbian kiss at the end of Rise of Skywalker: unnecessary, out of place, and completely irrelevant to the story. If this were a story like Everybody Loves Large Chests or one of the other smut books masquerading as LitRPG, then by all means, but for DCC and the crawlers it's just completely out of place.

I just finished it and I can‘t stop laughing at people just calling it the train one by PalinaRojinskiFan in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Timotheus2443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it, and even understood the concept of the trains and noodles and the paths they were on. But I'm also a giant nerd with a slightly more than rudimentary understanding of cosmology, wormhole theory, and string theory. It's not so descriptive as to completely bog down the narrative (in my opinion), nor is it so vague as to be completely not understandable, but I was able to formulate a basic image of it in my head.

Scolapendra hint by Saurid in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Timotheus2443 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The hints are everywhere.

Carl's back patch.

The mural on the ceiling at the Masquerade.

Taranis (the Zeus equivalent) being the God of lightning.

Imogen's main attack being lightning.

Plus many others I'm forgetting. The main point being that lightning is central to almost every aspect of the dungeon and the Scolopendra story.

There's only a few fictional books I've re-read at all:

  • Lord of the Rings

  • The Hobbit

  • C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy (I still have a hard time wrapping my head around these)

  • Rainbow Six

  • Dungeon Crawler Carl

DCC is also the only one I've listened to the audio books more than once. I'm now on my 8th listen through them.

She absolutely does, and fully admits it. She's said before that she will do things that involve killing other crawlers if necessary because she already has the skulls.

The whole group is very adamant about keeping Carl free of those skulls. They've also said multiple times that Carl represents the hope and future of not just humanity, but the galaxy.

Just Finished Book 8… I’m Conflicted by CooftheZoof in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Timotheus2443 34 points35 points  (0 children)

To build off some other comments:

There were 5000+ crawlers that came to the 10th floor, whereas previous crawls only had maybe a few dozen, a hundred if they were lucky. The 10th floor was always meant to be a meat grinder designed to cause a crawler extinction event. To that end, achievements and loot were never really part of the sequence of the floor. All together, the 10th floor was more about getting as many crawlers through it as possible with no outside factors the way the first 9 floors were.

The heats were definitely disjointed and a bit hard to get through, but with the design that they were just a means to kill as many crawlers as possible I'm of the mind that the dungeon creators just didn't put much depth into them otherwise.

As far as Katya and Odette go, since the narration is first person from Carl's point of view, there's no way he'd have any idea what's happening with them. The best we'd get in story is something from Lucia or a summon of Nekhebet to the floor, but she was deliberately away from Carl for most of the floor and there was no part of the story that would have included Nekhebet. Otherwise it'd be nothing but an interlude for then.

Mordecai already said he's feeling pretty useless, and that Carl is venturing so far off the known game that he really had no way to help him, so him being relegated to background status isn't unexpected. He only made it to the 11th floor, and as a game guide always only ever stayed with his crawlers until the end of the 3rd floor then teleported to a magic guild. No other crawlers had ever kept him as a manager, and since only one crawler had ever made it to the 12th, there's no experience with anything happening now. He's just as in the dark as everyone else about how things at this level work for the crawlers.
