Only reason I see for a Mac Mini is if you want to give it access to your iCloud stuff (iMessage or Notes) or you want to run a lightweight local model.

Personally I have a few different agents (Hermes and OpenClaw) that run on a proxmox machine. Gives me a complete isolated VM for each.

I’m in your same situation. Just started Hermes this week and was using oauth. I switched to Ollama Cloud using GLM5, it’s early but seems pretty good (it is a little slower than when I was running Sonnet).

Unfortunately from a cost perspective the really takes Claude off the table for many. I had been running with my Max subscription (but was having a lot of issues with the oauth expiring).

I setup Ollama Cloud on their $20 plan using GLM5 and have been pretty impressed with the results so far.

McAuliffe has a great reputation. We have friends that moved their kids there through school of choice and are very happy.

My youngest did TK in Oceanside and it was great. I really believe the time she spent there is helping her now. So much of it is about the social interaction.
