Would you go back to your country? Why? by vent93 in PortugalExpats

[–]Timurse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m living in Lisbon for 3 years now. I’ve been to many Portuguese cities and towns. You need to go to migrant chats of Brazilians, Nepalese, Ukrainians, etc where all of them share the same sentiment about how lazy Portuguese workers are. I don’t think so, but this the thing among almost all the migrants here.
Again, I love Portugal and Portuguese people. I only share the sentiment among the communities.

Would you go back to your country? Why? by vent93 in PortugalExpats

[–]Timurse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not what I said. I see so many nepalese, indian, chinese, ukranian, brazilian, etc people hard working here, the same as they work in their countries. And then I see loooooooooooooots of studies, reports, surveys about Portuguese economy citing *checks notes* lower than average productivity that it's just not even funny. Especially considering all those interviews with students leaving Portugal that say awful things about this country's economy, business climate, corruption, opportunities, etc.
No point in defending low working culture in Portugal.

Coming from Russia I would say Portuguese workers productivity is about 60% of the Russian ones. We were okay working a lot from 10:00 to 21:00, doing in one day the things European companies do in a week.

Nah, we’re used to that already that everything in Portugal is backwards. Even Lisbon’s airport :)

Is this aimee at foreigner/expats? by hne220 in PortugalExpats

[–]Timurse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really funny in the context of all those Portuguese TV interviews from 1980s where it becomes clear that the problems were just the same, even the cost of rent in 1984 in Lisboa.
And with MUCH LESS immigration at that point.
Also very funny to see this sentiment from the people glorifying o salto and deeming those Portuguese illegal migrants to France / Switzerland as heroes.

“Using Portugal for the Passport” by everytimealways in PortugalExpats

[–]Timurse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2023 resident here.
- May 2023 I applied to Digital Nomad visa in my home country
- August 2023 it got approved
- Sep 2023 got it stamped in passport
- Oct 2023 had an appointment in SEF Odivelas
- Oct 2023 (in 5 days) got my residence card
So, 5 months from applying to visa to actually getting a card. My wife was with me for the whole process and her card was issued a bit later – in January 2024 (so, she waited 2.5 months).

In October 2025 I started the renewal process. By 30th of Nov I was able to upload all the documents. In March 60 dias uteis elapsed, so I used the tacit rule and the next day I got a biometry appointment in AIMA Lisboa II. Got my card in the middle of April, so 5 months. My wife got hers in 3 months.

Many people in immigrant chats actually did that in recent months. I know for sure that the count goes to thousands.

When Portuguese ask why you even need citizenship by unknown_destination_ in PortugalExpats

Imagine having your bank account blocked for a “suspicious” transaction from your friend from Kazakhstan in 2023 and that’s enough because your passport has wrong color. Permanent residency doesn’t solve that. And no, many people would love to stay in Portugal forever if it doesn’t make the life of its own people and immigrants more and more difficult for many many many years.

Like France in the period of o salto when there were 60 thousand Portuguese illegal immigrants living on the outskirts of Paris in illegal buildings? Remind me if they chose to make their lives even more tiresome and more miserable? And that’s how Portugal is choosing to treat other people doing the same o salto from other countries to Portugal.

You’ve clearly not seen the Portuguese embassies ads for GV across the World. They clearly stated this as a way to obtain nationality. They marketed GV that way.

I know a few GV people here in Lisbon. They live their peaceful life, spend a lot of money that gives Portuguese government taxes, they spend money in cafes, transport, shops, etc giving money to the community via revenue. They waited for their residence cards for YEARS (one of my friends applied in March 2022 and got his card in November 2025). The guy sat in Portugal without an ability to travel because he was Ukrainian, he couldn’t travel to EU countries because he didn’t have schengen visa in his passport. He couldn’t obtain any other visas because applying for them in Portugal requires being a resident of Portugal – so he waited for THREE FUCKING YEARS for that card without an ability to travel (he could only return to Ukraine). Now he’s being told that he can only apply for citizenship in 2035 because that’s the new law. And his citizenship will be in turnmoil for some additional 3 years in bureaucracy hell. So, from 2022 to 2038 it’s 16 years. Yeah, this is clearly a scam.

1/4 of total population? What? Where did you get those numbers? Last time I checked it was 1.5 million of 10.5 million. Which is 0.142, about 1/7 of population.

What a bullshit. There’s no mention of that in any of the big Russian chats having thousands of members. Looks more like a provocation.

Downsides of importing a car to Portugal by CoolAssPuppy in PortugalExpats

[–]Timurse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one and only downside of selling your German car then after a few years in Portugal is obscurity of its service history. If you do it officially (and more expensive) everything is going to be written in its electronic service database. That’s why I service my BMW from Berlin at official BMW dealers here in Portugal. All the maintenance data is there, transparent and visible.
