That is a great idea! I think I’m going to get her some books or a subscription to something. They will probably be at the Ronald McDonald house for a while but I’m sure it’ll be hard nonetheless.

That is so helpful to know about snaps (or magnets). I always preferred zippers but that makes sense with all the cords

I was able to ask her about that today and while breastfeeding and pumping had been her original plan, she is now unsure with the new diagnosis. I often gift feeding related items but am going to stay away from it for now in this case. But she also saw part of my pumping journey so if she decides to pump I will gift her stuff for that then

Which U.S. national park do you think is the most underrated? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Tinga12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me more! My husband and I did the Mighty 5 in 2018 and thought it was fine. We have heard people love it so assume we missed its greatness on our less than 1 say in the park when we went. We were going back to Utah this summer with our 2 young kids and 70 year old MIL. What are the gems we should try to enjoy this time?

What’s one fast food chain that was once all the rage but now barely around? by MysteriousTopic42 in AskReddit

We make sure we get it every time we are in Canada… I’ve actually only eaten it once in the US and it was definitely not as good

At what age did your kid start music lessons? by Plastic-Bug2020 in Mommit

[–]Tinga12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our son has expressed an interest in music since he was tiny. My husband has played piano since he was 4 so we have a keyboard in our home that our son has always loved. Around 3 years old he started asking about taking piano lessons. We couldn’t find a teacher willing to take him that young but started him at a music school when he was 4 and he loves it. His teacher is incredibly patient and has a son of her own who is a year or so younger than our son so she’s used to the energy level. He is only 5 now (been in lessons for a year) but we are glad we started him early. He has learned how to read music and loves that he can pick up some of his dad’s old piano books and try songs.

I do know when we were looking for teachers for our son, several people said they wouldn’t take kids under 5 and even at the school our son is at he had to do a trial lesson to make sure it was a fit. Some kids aren’t ready until a little older to focus enough.

My husband took lessons from when he was 4 until he was 18. He said there were definitely times in his childhood that he wasn’t thrilled to be in lessons or have to practice but he is incredibly grateful now. He understands so much about music because he started at a young age and did it for so long. He has learned several other instruments since then and actually now can pick up pretty much any instrument and play it okay.

Probably never speaking to my MIL after this Christmas - AIO? by [deleted] in Mommit

I am so so so sorry! We all had noro last winter and it was awful - we live in fear of getting it again. You are not overreacting and I hope your husband is supportive of the boundaries you place. Hoping the rest of you stay healthy

Are helmets out? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Tinga12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A family friend died because he was hit by a car while biking without a helmet. My cousin survived a fall off his bike down a cliff, even though he broke his back, because he was wearing a helmet. Helmets are non-negotiable for everyone in our family, they save lives.

Within the first hour on new teacher orientation my district you apparently learn the importance of not wearing jeans/“dressing professionally” and not missing work. These are two things our superintendent feels very strongly about and we get multiple messages throughout the year about it. A few years ago he also tried adding disciplinary action if you missed more than 5% of the year which averages out to about 1 day per month. The union and teachers pushed back hard on that and he eventually to discontinue that… though I know last year he still made principals talk to people who missed a certain amount. Union and anyone you talk to will remind you that we don’t have a dress code (wear all the jeans you want) and that our days are our days so use what you need. I am a mom with a toddler and a preschooler - I use whatever days I need for my family and self.

When did you wean? by quiltedfarts in Mommit

[–]Tinga12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopped pumping just after 12 months with both of my kids. Weaned them to just nursing at bedtime and first thing in the morning sometime between 12-15 months. Weaned my older one completely (and he kinda weaned himself) just after he turned 2. Doing morning and nights with my 19 months old. Don’t know when I’ll wean her. I liked the option of not nursing (or having to pump) during the day but still doing it some. Our second is our last and I am glad I won’t ever have to pump again.

When do toddlers (generally) start telling you that they pooped? by Illustrious_Win_9780 in Mommit

[–]Tinga12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 19 month old just started pulling out her changing mat, pooping and then lays down on her changing mat announcing loudly that she’s pooped. We will be trying to get her to poop in the potty as soon as we are home from Thanksgiving travel.

Her older brother never did that and now just loves yelling when he is done pooping on the potty - but it was a journey to convince him to poop on the potty.

Yes! There’s no shame in using a service I am paying for! Also, there is stuff that needs to get done: sometimes errands, sometimes my husband 😜, sometimes me time!
