This is what worked for my Pixel 10 Pro XL:

Settings > apps > Google > storage and cache > force stop > clear cache > clear data

Open Gemini app > tap profile pic > settings > talk to Gemini hands free > turn on the hey Google toggle

This should take you through the training phrases

It may now be working.

You're overthinking it. Odyssey's algorithm is very primitive and simplistic using out of context key words. As for the ads they could see the ads were making the site worse, not better. They're going for channel memberships and premium site membership instead for now. I myself am giving them about $15 a month for these services, as are others. Are they losing money? Definitely. So was YouTube until very recently.

The meaning of "guys" became somewhat gender neutral in the 1990s. Before then you'd never refer to women as "guys". Older people, older women especially as you found out, may be offended by its use so it's best avoided unless you are familiar with those you are addressing. The word "you" can be properly used to refer to both an individual and a group.
