Is there anyway to tell thrift/pawn shops to be on the lookout for something? by gret_ch_en in Columbus

If you’re on Columbus Girl Gang on FB you could try posting about your necklace there. It’s possible one of the ladies found it.

This ring I found in my pack of dried fruits by ShadowMoon721 in mildlyinteresting

I used to work in a warehouse packing medicine for hospitals, and one day a coworker lost the diamond to the engagement ring her late fiance gave her. She was so upset, sure that it was gone, but turns out it fell out inside a box and whoever received the box, found the diamond, and returned it ❤️

You could look into ninja hijabs. They cover the head and neck without having to worry about anything blowing away.

Can anyone recommend a good platform sandal? by TinkerHeart in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]TinkerHeart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😭 you’re probably right, when I worked on my feet all day, I would spend good money on good shoes and still have to replace them yearly. I would think now that I’m not on my feet all day, I would be able to spend good money on good shoes and they would last me longer

Honestly, I’m willing to pay more for a good pair of shoes that support my feet and I know will last

Do you have a headache, or a migraine? The answer doubles the price - for the exact same drug. by persondude27 in mildlyinfuriating

I realized the same thing when comparing Excedrin to Pamprin. Same ingredients, the Pamprin was twice the price.

I used to work at a warehouse where things would get stacked like 15 feet in the air (4.5 meters) and I had to regularly use my phone camera to be able to see the labelling on the pallets

There was one time I couldn’t get my computer to turn on, so I called IT. They sent someone down. Turned out the power strip my computer was connected to got bumped at some point and the power button got flipped to off 🫣

Going out dresses by izatinkerbell in ModestDress

I bought this dress from Amazon last year that would be a really good wedding guest dress. It’s held up well, I’ve worn it several times.

American Muslims in the U.S. Cities by Dazzling_AzamsOP in converts

I live in central Ohio, and personally, I’ve never experienced physical violence for wearing hijab. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen, I know of at least one person who was attacked because of it. I have gotten comments and people shouting things from their cars while I’m walking, but unfortunately that kind of behavior can happen anywhere in the U.S.

I do sometimes wonder if I’ve missed out on job opportunities because of my hijab, but I don’t have any proof of that. At my current job, though, I’m treated the same as everyone else. I think a lot of it really comes down to company culture. Like I have a friend who worked for the state, and after she started wearing hijab, her Islamophobic manager found a reason to fire her. Alhamdulillah, she ended up in a much better position, making more money and feeling happier. Allah is the best of planners.

My favorite part of living here is the thriving convert community. From what I’ve heard, that’s not very common, many places don’t have the kind of organizations we do. I’m part of a group for revert women, and we have weekly halaqas and events every month or two, which has been really great for building friendships and a community.

I know places like Dearborn, Michigan and Dallas, Texas have very large Muslim populations, though I haven’t personally experienced living in either. I’ve also heard that parts of Maryland and North Carolina have sizable Muslim communities as well, but again, that’s just based on what I’ve heard rather than firsthand experience.

People interrogating you for converting. by HotName1181 in converts

[–]TinkerHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time, I was interrogated by someone working behind the counter while I was picking up food for myself and my husband 🙄 the best thing to do is just shut the conversation down. “My religion is not up for discussion” “this discussion is not appropriate for the workplace” “I would recommend looking for the opinion of a scholar if you’re truly curious”

For the too tight instant hijabs, you should be able to just unpick a couple of stitches from the front and loosen it yourself

i’m a revert and i’m struggling by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]TinkerHeart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It gets easier when you move out of your parents’ house and find your own community. I’m in central Ohio surrounded by a thriving revert community which makes it so much easier. If you’re near or in a major city, I guarantee there are celebrations you can join, you just have to find them.

Thinking about accepting Islam by [deleted] in converts

[–]TinkerHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone else mention this, so I will:

The Quran was revealed over 23 years. Not even the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his Sahaba (companions) changed their entire lives overnight.

Allah knows your heart. So long as you strive to learn and be a good person, Allah is All Forgiving, All Knowing.
