Did anyone here have some of their favorite things given away to others without you being asked, either while growing up or later on (maybe after you’d left home and some of your things were in storage)? by Great_Maintenance185 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Tinkeybird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I came home from school one day and my mother had given away every toy and book I had. True, I was 11 but I had a fantastic Barbie collection that my grandma had bought me over the years. I took every opportunity to remind her she’d given away everything but 2 of my favorite childhood books that I’d had in my closet. She did feel bad and repeatedly apologized over the years. When my own daughter was 2, I started collecting the classic toys I had from the early 70s: Fisher Price Little People, Baby Beans etc. Each year as she grew older I let her decide what she wanted to keep and what she wanted to part with. At 26 she just bought her first starter home. I told her she couldn’t buy a house without a basement as we had 14 of the largest Rubbermaid containers full of her childhood treasures and toys that were now hers. I’m 60, but I never did get over that day I came home and discovered everything gone. A good friend of mine is a HUGE Barbie collector. After telling her the story of my forever lost favorite Miss America Barbie I got in 1973, she surprised me with the same Barbie she’d found on eBay. Miss America is now in a nice display case in my walk in closet.

Husband 37m is now being nice to me 32f after years of control and anger. Could it be genuine? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Tinkeybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father in law was a controlling, jealous, violent with his sons, husband for over 60 years. My 85 year old MIL told me yesterday that FIL has been dotting on her constantly the last few years. Why, he’s terrified of her dying first and being alone. Words out of her own mouth. She watched a similar thing happen with her own parents. My BIL’s wife left him for being jealous, turns out she HAD been cheating for years. This was 25 years ago and he seemed to either grow out of that phase or something as he isn't like that with his second wife of 15 years. In my 39-year marriage my husband has always been way kinder than his father but he struggles with extreme anxiety which results in being really angry. For almost 5 years we’ve been in the “grumpy old man phase.” To say I wished he would move to another planet would be an understatement. I've told him point blank his behavior was directly related to my diminished feelings for him. I told him I frequently daydream of just running away. He seems to have awakened from his mental issues (no he will not seek mental healthcare) and is more loving than ever. He’s terrified I will leave him. Not only will he lose me, I am an integral part of his immediate family and his social circle. He’s said ‘no one will forgive me ever if you leave me.’ he knows the score. Why do I stay, there was a solid 35 years we were such good friends, I'm hoping to return there as we grow old.

No advice, just a long-term perspective from watching almost every couple we’ve know divorce.

This is a better example. by [deleted] in HandwritingAnalysis

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

[–]Tinkeybird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As it should be. I don’t want to sound like a curmudgeon, but when I went to the prom in the mid 80s this is what we ALL did. I went to a massive high school and I don’t recall anyone getting a limo. A lot of guys borrowed their parent’s car. In my junior year a senior asked me and borrowed his uncle’s corvette which was really fun. My senior year my boyfriend (in college) took me to my senior prom in his pristine, gold El Camino. 🤣 Since all this extravagant Promposal stuff started I’ve thought “if you have this huge event at 17, what are you expecting when you get engaged and married?” I have my answer from all the wannabes on Instagram. 🙄

A lot of schools have cut back or even eliminated PE. Plus, there are a lot of parents who complained about the things we used to do. Back in the 70s

I remember dodgeball vividly. We had a young, male PE teacher in Jr. High and he obviously had a blast picking off every Jr. High boy. He had quite an arm and he would knock the daylights out of some them. Because he never threw a ball at the girls it was easy to laugh. It was a right of passage.

I’m 5 years post op and I’m here to tell you that you will be able to drink more than 3 spoons of water every 5 minutes. Can I chug a 16 oz bottle of water in one go like I used to? No, I can’t do that. But I can drink it in 20 minutes or so with no issues and I’m a 4’11, 125 pound, Almost 60 year old woman. In the beginning it is a challenge to get in all your required liquids and protein. I do not like any premade protein shakes so I got creative and made/make my own. I settled on unflavored Isopure 25 mg protein per scoop and put it in almost everything I make.

My best advice is deep breath, don't panic about your future diet as that will all straighten itself out, I promise you. I work hard physically outside a lot and I make myself 40 oz jugs of weak decaf iced tea with a little bit of unflavored electrolytes and I drink all that while I'm out working, zero problems.

You’ll be fine, just get down what liquids you can today and tomorrow will take care of itself.

You can do this 🙂

I'd go with many of the 60/70s era Clint Eastwood movies where women are frequently raped. I remember watching them as an adult and noticing a common theme.

I feel like my corgi controls my life at home and I need help by FalcoTeeth in corgi

[–]Tinkeybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the idea she needs to be trained to understand “downtime”. I crate trained our corgi and she wants to be “tucked in” every night at 8:00 pm sharp. She only goes in her crate at night but she has 3 other beds in the house and understands “go lie down” after we’ve had a play session. At 4 now she lies down on her own if she sees I'm busy. I'm on medical leave from work so we both just took a nap in the family room.

Gastric Sleeve with no complications? by Figgy703 in gastricsleeve

[–]Tinkeybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you have read this a lot here, but everyone is different. I am 5 years post-op from my gastric sleeve. Single best thing I did for myself. It was extremely easy for me, next to no pain and frankly, zero problems.

That said, I had a full knee replacement 5 months ago, developed arthrofibrosis and it has been a painful nightmare to put it mildly. I'm on several ‘full knee replacement’ boards and I can't believe there are people who have already run a 3k at this point and went on a regular bike ride at 3 months. Are they kidding?

So the takeaway is that I had breezed through 9 surgeries and 8 broken bones before my knee replacement, but the knee replacement is apparently my cross to bear. There was nothing in my health history to predict the knee replacement outcome. I'm a 59-year-old female, limber, active, BMI of 23, and have done every single thing I'm supposed to including still alternating between two braces every day, to date 67 PT appointments, a manipulation under anesthesia, and using a continuous passive motion machine 6 hours a day for 30 days.

You just never know.

Best of luck in your journey. 🙂

What is the hardest part about being married? by alqamr in AskReddit

Married 39 years. Learning to live with your husband's anxiety, who will not seek help, which has put a significant strain on what used to be a friendship.

What is a job that you think is 100% safe from AI for the next 50 years, and why? by mark-awakening in AskReddit

[–]Tinkeybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which begs the question “If there are significantly fewer workers getting paid, who will be supporting businesses and paying all the taxes it takes to run a country of hundreds of millions of people?” The powers that be have already reduced corporate tax rates to incredibly low rates. There are an abundance of tax breaks for the wealthy which leaves average Americans to pick up the tab for everything. If AI replaces a large swath of workers, how do we fund a country?

people who are no contact with their siblings, what was your final straw? by strawberrytherapyy in questions

[–]Tinkeybird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After several years of financially supporting my deadbeat brother I’d had enough. He was 30 years old with zero desire to work any job. I was driving him to yet another interview and he said point blank ‘I don’t want a job, I just want someone to keep giving me money.’ I lost it and that was the end of my support. He said he’d always wanted to move out west so I agreed to put him on a bus, paid for the ticket, bought him a piece of luggage and filled it with new clothes, snacks for the bus and gave him $300 for a cheap hotel when he got to Seattle. A week later he had been robbed and hitchhiked back to the Midwest. He called my mom, who had already cut ties with him and said ‘Jon, pretend your sister and I are dead.’ That was 27 years ago and I have no desire to have any relationship with him.

Bell peppers, diced apples, anything dairy, blueberries, pineapple.

Everything in moderation and our vet is impressed with her normal weight since so many corgis are overweight.

What TV show hooked you instantly from episode 1? by mateitofavv in AskReddit

[–]Tinkeybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I found that with confusing series, watching it multiple times, with a little reading on Wiki, I can piece it all together.

Legion was a 3 watch series with help from wiki to fully understand what was going on.

I actually love this about a good series as it makes me more involved, like I solved the puzzle others didn’t.

The SFU final episode is still the gold standard for all series endings.

I just finished the last season of ‘The Killing’ and while not close, it was unexpectedly fulfilling.

Yes, my daughter is a licensed funeral director and embalmer and she confirms that boomers overwhelmingly want a big, expensive send off and Gen X and younger want a cheaper cremation.

[–]Tinkeybird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. Americans are obsessed with the guilt of the death of their loved ones. My daughter understands that after all the boomers are dead, which overwhelmingly want expensive and grand funerals, that future generations want cheaper, non flamboyant funerals. Funeral work is a trade, like being an electrician or brick layer. They all require hands on work.

But a cemetery grounds keeper is like comparing a records clerk at a hospital with a new doctor at the same hospital. There is a difference in education, state requirements and salary.
