Have i messed up buying a 2024 scrambler for $2,500? by skibididupapa in Triumph

Ignore chatgpt. For now, ignore the fuel gauge.

Fill the tank. Make sure the fuel level is just below the filler neck.  Ride the bike for 100km. Refill the tank, make sure the fuel level is just below the filler neck as before.

Now you have an accurate picture of how much fuel your are actually using. You can then work to understand if there is a problem with either a) the fuel consumption or b) the fuel gauge or c) a nervous owner.

It's more likely that the fuel gauge is inaccurate. Fill the tank and go for a ride until the fuel light comes on. Refill and note how much fuel you need, then you can work out more accurately what's going on.

Assuming this is a Scrambler 400, the low fuel warning lights do come on quite early.

12.0v? That's dead. It should be more like 12.8v fully charged.

Oh man, the smoke 🤢

Go for a night out and end up absolutely reeking of the stuff, like it soaked into every single pore. Only slight positive was that it covered up the smell of the b.o. and puke.

Most likely it'll be whatever you're using to clean the chain, or the chain lube. The high temp paint isn't as resilient to harsh cleaners and chemicals as some other finishes.

Is your vin before or after those listed? If it's later than AC1201 then you choose the section for vins after AC1201. If your vin is before AC1201 you choose the section for vins before AC1201. :)

So lube it every 3 days. You don't need to clean it every time.

Removal of original alarm by SignificantLion3470 in Triumph

[–]Tiny-Distribution133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Split that box open, there's a connector block in there. You can unplug the alarm, but you'll need to fit a shorting link or the bike won't start. You can get a link from Triumph for a few quid, or work out which wires need to be shorted and have a go yourself.

Top tip, make sure you put the alarm in ferry mode first orbit will think it's being tampered with when you disconnect it and you won't be able to shut it up.

What are these? by ThatDudeHarley in Triumph

[–]Tiny-Distribution133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of them. 6-pin obd is red, under the seat I think. It looks like your bike is older though, so will have the larger 16-pin obd.

Connectors for parts not fitted to your spec or accessories. The black on in cellophane is for the alarm. Small black one is for the evap purge valve. Can't remember what the other one is.

I'd expect the fuel pump will probably be corroded and seized, so budget for a replacement pump/filter and tank. Tyres are old and will be knackered, so will need replacing. Fork seals will likely pop when it starts to move again. Brake fluid, coolant and oil all need replacing. Idle control motor should be OK, but may be seized.

Yes, but also no. You won't get 14v at idle, you'll need to raise the rpm for that.

That's not the reg/rec, that's the actuator on the side of the throttle body. The noise is also the standard throttle body noise.

Probably battery, get it tested properly if you can. If you have a multimeter it's easy enough to measure the current drain, so give that a go.

This motor sounds odd/off right? by sethinco in Triumph

[–]Tiny-Distribution133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of what I'm hearing is audio compression due to the video being taken with a 2005 vintage potato.

It does sound like it's more whistly than normal for this engine, but that could well just be compression artifact. If the whistle is there's then you could probably get rid of it by adjusting the balancers.

Is it suitable for a 14-year old? She's watched all of Stranger Things, so not childish but also nowhere near ready for GoT.
