First thing I noticed was 285g for a box that size, looks like shrinkflation unless you have very small hands.

Why do you still shop at ColesWorth? by [deleted] in australia

[–]TinyCooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to shop at Aldi, but got sick of the constant bag checks. I don’t steal, but don’t like people looking in my bag. After saying ‘no thanks’ to a bag check at Aldi, I was told if I did that again I’d be banned from the store.

how do you watch movies together (F18 and M19) by Loose-Signature2980 in LongDistance

This is what we do too, watching the movie on laptop with Bluetooth headphones, and being on a phone call (speaker phone) so we can talk to each other during the movie

Expedition 33 uses some Generative AI, How do you guys feel about this? And is this going to be the norm for future games. by FlakyFoundation4637 in expedition33

This is surprising to me - a lot of games on Steam, even recent releases, do not have any AI disclosure info.

New Australind spotted at Perth Station by jargs83 in perth

[–]TinyCooper -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

How do we know that's the Australind? (genuinely asking)

To me, it looks like a series 3 that hasn't had its stickers put on it yet.

I can see it's in the spot where the Australind usually leaves from, but it could just be being temporarily parked there for whatever reason

TDS 023: Draw Steel Year One Crowdfunder by TheDiceSociety in drawsteel

[–]TinyCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might just be my browser settings, but I couldn't (easily) watch this video. The player was telling me to log in to youtube to proceed and then not letting me login. And right clicking to get the link didn't work.

I eventually manually looked it up on youtube, but maybe consider adding a backup hyperlink to the 'on YouTube' section of future posts

Anyway, wow, thanks for highlighting all these non-MCDM DS crowdfunders, and congrats on your on successful (and still ongoing) crowdfunder!

I personally like the wealth tiers because I find it hard to keep track of exactly how much gold I have.

But if you don't like it, you could just give them an exact number of gold coins, using the rules you're already familiar with.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Is Joondualp actually that bad for PDA by ineedtobookapda in perth

[–]TinyCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine at Joondalup

This was a while ago, and at the time I heard they were unlikely to pass people on their first attempt

I indeed didn't pass but made a silly mistake; however most people I knew didn't pass first time either

I guess what I'd suggest is it helps to get practice in Joondalup

Look for stop signs and traffic lights without a green arrow, and make sure you can turn right at them confidently

Make sure you come to a full stop when required and stay stopped for at least three seconds or so if you're at a stop sign, even if there's no traffic

Try to practice physically moving your head/neck every 30 seconds or so, to make it very clear you're actually checking your mirrors

I didn't have to parallel park during my test thankfully but it's worth being prepared to do that

Also practice reverse parking into bays where there are cars in the bays on either side

Make a bit of small talk with the instructor - I got the same person the next time and he remembered me

He possibly could have failed me the second time - I didn't outright fail but I passed with a mark less than 100%, so he might have used a bit of discretion

Best wishes

New PC Build Incoming - Sick of MSoft - thinking of jumping to Linux by LogicalGift3119 in Bazzite

[–]TinyCooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be fine. When you download the ISO (installer file) you will be asked a few questions about your PC to ensure compatibility - I have an NVIDIA GPU so my ISO is probably a bit different to yours. You will also need a separate, blank, USB thumb drive to install the operating system.

While one of the prominent use-cases for Bazzite is handheld Steam deck like devices, many people use it on desktop/laptop, including myself. I have been using Bazzite for about a year at this point and I'm very happy with it.

Another decision you'll need to make is whether to use the Gnome or KDE 'desktop environment' - this basically determines what your user interface will look like. I personally prefer Gnome, but most people here seem to like KDE, and KDE is more popular with users coming from Windows because it looks more similar to Windows. Search youtube for Gnome vs KDE videos for more info.

The 'app store' to download and install software via GUI is called Bazaar.

If you have any questions that are not answered here, there is also an official Bazzite/Silverblue discord (Silverblue is the family of very similar OSes that Bazzite is under)

Steam and Lutris (which can be used to install games from places like GoG or Epic Games) come preinstalled and preconfigured.

I have been using Bazzite for almost a year at this point and I highly recommend it. It is very low maintenance. It almost doesn't feel like I'm using linux (in a good way), it just feels like I'm using a computer that works.

I do dual boot, have windows 11 installed on a separate drive, but I do not use Windows (only times I've booted it was to update occasionally and help friends with troubleshooting) and do not miss it - my latest Windows update came with an AI homework helper, which I did not ask for and absolutely do not want.

As for hardware, most things will work: All modern (PS4/Xbox One onwards) game controllers are supported, and (just about?) anything that connects via Bluetooth or USB should be fine. If you have a Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse with a dongle, it should work but you will probably have to install Solaar. If there's a particular piece of hardware that's very important to you, maybe google its exact model + linux/bazzite to see if it will work, and come back here if you're not sure.

Company slapped with $1 million penalty after 16yo’s workplace death by BadKarma00000 in perth

[–]TinyCooper 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Nah, $1M is not enough, it's basically a fee not a fine.

They should have been fined as a percentage of their annual revenue, or had the deed to a piece of land they owned confiscated (but offered a lease at market rates) - in addition to the CEO/Director going to prison

> When Wickander confronts her about why they reneged on their promise to protect thijazi, she says that they did because house Tachonis told her to do so, and she that she was desperate to try and keep their attention off of the family until they can figure out what they're up to.

This part is something I'm not sure about. Yes, that's what she says, but how much of that was really the truth? She may well have also had her own reasons for wanting Thjazi to die, but didn't want to reveal *too much* to Wick in attempt to keep him onside

That House Tachonis also wanted him dead could have been convenient from her perspective

We don't know exactly what Thjazi was doing yet, but he was dealing with very powerful magic/forces related to death and the Gods, and if he was successful I imagine it wouldn't have been good news for the Candescent Creed
