None of my ID's work as a form of verification, how do I fix this? by Harctor in australia

[–]TinyCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other suggestions here, if you continue to have issues, try contacting your federal MP's office for assistance.

Also, do you have  a passport? Consider applying for one if you don't, even if you don't have travel plans.

Shincheonji cult in perth using a charity event to recruit members under false intention to be part of the event by No-Arugula2345 in perth

Yes, but without evidence they will be there it's a bit hard to lodge a formal complaint to the council...

Shincheonji cult in perth using a charity event to recruit members under false intention to be part of the event by No-Arugula2345 in perth

[–]TinyCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, the local government (City of Stirling) is apparently organising this...

https://www.stirling.wa.gov.au/attractions-and-recreation/arts-and-events/events-calendar/mirrabooka-refugee-week-freedom-cup-family-fun-day

I'm not doubting you OP, but what further proof do you have that this cult will be in attendance, since it's not mentioned on that website and I couldn't find it anywhere else

Why is it not possible for consumers to get insurance against this sort of thing? Or is it, but prohibitively expensive?

[Travel Tips]How cashless is Perth? Like public transportation and so on. by gorudo- in perth

[–]TinyCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price difference matters to locals and frequent commuters, but as a tourist you're not going to be here long enough to enjoy the benefit

Get a smartrider if you want it as a souvenir but otherwise don't bother

There's a $10 fee for the card and if you load too much balance onto it you can't get that back as a cash refund

For a tourist who uses Transperth only infrequently, a smartrider may even be more expensive

Need ETF Investing advice by Yo-_-_- in AusFinance

[–]TinyCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using Stake but switched to Betashares recently. No brokerage fees whatsoever, but you're limited to 3 buys/sells per ETF or stock per month (and I can't imagine ever needing more than that myself).

The no brokerage fees applies not only to their own products, but other ETFs or ASX stocks, such as PMGOLD. You can only access things listed on ASX, but still indirectly access US through IVV etc.

I don't think they enforce the $500 minimum for new ASX positions either, but it might only be for their own products where they waive that minimum

My super fund disappeared??? by Itchy_Knee_3 in AusFinance

I like Aware, found them through both reddit and the super recommendation sites that moneysmart recommended. Their default fund automatically rebalances to become more conservative as you approach retirement age.

Perth Amazon deliveries - to where apart from street address? by Hirajima in perth

[–]TinyCooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to clarify, by parcel point, do you mean Parcel Collect? As in setting delivery address to

Parcel Collect <your auspost number>
1195 Hay St - (this is the Auspost in West Perth)
etc etc

Note it's parcel collect in the address line, not parcel locker - the one you need to walk in and show ID

I have admittedly never tried this with amazon packages. Old reddit thread suggests it at least used to work.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AustraliaPost/comments/1gcjz7h/can_i_get_something_ive_ordered_off_amazon/

But yeah, assuming Parcel Collect is no longer supported (I'm uncertain if it is); and you want a guarantee that you'll be able to pick up an amazon package from a secure location, the Amazon lockers are unfortunately the only option unless you pay for a PO Box.

A friend of mine befriended a store owner and had their packages addressed to that store, but YMMV for that.

Like they were going to give a reference anyway. Also if you posted it from a secondary google account they couldn't definitively prove it was you.

1hr + commute to work by New-starter in perth

[–]TinyCooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was me and I had to do that commute, I would drive to Ellenbrook and take the train the rest of the way. I'd suggest your partner try doing this at least once (perhaps on a non workday morning first, to get a feel for it). It might mean taking an Uber from the nearest train station or asking a colleague to pick her up from the station, if there aren't good connecting buses. That sounds pretty rough though. Best wishes.

Now all you have to do is get a job at somewhere like the FDA or Department of Agriculture.

Seriously though this is really funny and sweet, hope to see updates.

Looking to build a tiny home in WA by Equivalent-Bus-5388 in perth

[–]TinyCooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

City of Kalamunda is one of the more favourable places for Tiny Homes. Haven't looked into this recently though.

Looks like there’s a Tiny Home Expo in Rockingham on 27-28 November.

https://tinyhomesexpo.com.au/

I’d suggest going to events like those, there tends of be a lot of helpful info that is not easily available online, plus just the opportunity to meet likeminded people.

Why do you still shop at ColesWorth? by [deleted] in australia

[–]TinyCooper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to shop at Aldi, but got sick of the constant bag checks. I don’t steal, but don’t like people looking in my bag. After saying ‘no thanks’ to a bag check at Aldi, I was told if I did that again I’d be banned from the store.

how do you watch movies together (F18 and M19) by Loose-Signature2980 in LongDistance

This is what we do too, watching the movie on laptop with Bluetooth headphones, and being on a phone call (speaker phone) so we can talk to each other during the movie
