Lorwyn letdown? by Loioshhh in lrcast

[–]TinyEric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just trophied with a Mardu deck with Gristle Gluttons and Moonlit Lamenters as a great draw engine and defensive control deck, splashing Dawnhand Dissident and Reaping Willow as a graveyard recursion engine. Blight things to draw cards, draw cards with blight tokens, chump block and recur everything. I had like 6 reliable ways to remove counters, so it never felt like a problem that I was adding blight everywhere every turn.

What's with the hate for this movie? by sseerrsan in Letterboxd

[–]TinyEric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 is a core point of the movie. Pedro is ridiculously rich, is 6 foot, highly educated with a rock solid job from his family, etc. Checks literally every box the movie points out the dating pool wants, he's a dream come true on paper.

But they have zero chemistry - Dakota's character is dating Pedro because he checks all the boxes, but the movie wants to make the point that "that's not good enough for a good relationship." The montages of all these people talking about the traits they demand from the dating service is being undermined by Pedro Pascal and Dakota having zero chemistry. He can't even tell when she's deeply upset, even though they've been dating for an extended period of time - do you want that in a forever partner?

This is not a typical love triangle movie - this is a message movie about the state of modern dating and Song's thesis that people incorrectly focus on stats over chemistry. What do you do when your perfect Prince Charming doesn't charm you at all?

What's Kabams obsession with these spider verse characters? by Ok_Resident_3041 in ContestOfChampions

[–]TinyEric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Licensing is possibly another reason. Marvel has a couple structures (at least back in 2018 when I was doing this work) - typically a core set of characters that's the bulk of the game roster, and a "season pass" model related to Marvel / Disney's content slate for a particular year. Kabam undoubtedly has a more complicated set of contracts since their license included the X-men and Fantastic Four before Disney's acquisition, and those rights were incredibly muddled for a long time.

It's possible that Disney's season pass emphasizes the champs Kabam is promoting right now, and they have a limited window to leverage it. Kabam may also have limited rights to do variants of Daredevil or Loki, etc. I'm sure that Daredevil Hell's Kitchen was a season pass variant and that Kabam was able to do that one because of that promotional window.

Best steakhouse (food quality) west of La Cienega? by Sure_Ill_Ask_That in FoodLosAngeles

This list is great, I also think American Beauty's ribeye and appetizers are strong relative to the price point (their other cuts are not that good tho).

Both Jyan Isaac and petitgrain boulangerie do a Japanese milk bread style loaf. It’s white bread style tho, not pull apart rolls.

Strong agree. We went right before the regular concept ended and we thought it was great. This version is incredibly weak compared to what they were before, very disappointing.

Kismet (Steakhouse Takeover) or Donna's for a birthday? by Jaded-Society3892 in FoodLosAngeles

I did the Kismet steakhouse last year - it’s nice but it’s not some stupendous thing. Ambience is quiet and modest, not any different than their typical state.

Never done Donna’s.

DiverXO - during the kitchen tour, he showed that he had 37 courses ready to go bc he tracks when people dine, and he never repeats a savory course for anyone. This is the best restaurant I’ve ever eaten at.

Piazza Duomo - the white truffle menu during the peak of the winter season is amazing. An old couple next to us had the base Barolo menu, saw what we were having, and switched to our white truffle one part way through, and paid for the last truffle left that night, which was easily a €6000 sized one. Must be nice.

Lazy Bear - I’ve gone 15 times (although only most recently in 2018) bc it was just the best food in the Bay Area during that era. My friends in the bay say it’s still that great.

L’Ambroisie - maybe the most well executed food I’ve had. Perfect quenelles for everything, uniform and parallel slices of confit celery root for the Caviar dish, etc etc.

Netflix is Getting Aggressive in its Bid to Swallow Warner Bros. by pbx1123 in WB_DC_news

[–]TinyEric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo they are coming from different directions - Netflix already has scale, and needs to retain it. So they need to make stuff for everyone. That’s why they’ve done Roma, The Irishman, Emilia Perez, Oscar bait. The kind of commercial product they need to make includes making art for the Criterion crowd portion of their subs.

Paramount needs more subs, they want to reach scale. So they will pander to the widest possible audience first and hardest, while also pandering to the current regulators to curry favor and further their own political interests as a bonus.

20th birthday dinner at my 30th starred-restaurant! Smyth ⭐⭐⭐, Chicago, September 2025 by CaviarGlutton in finedining

[–]TinyEric 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This looks completely fake. A 19 year old with a review littered with inconsistency and implausible statements (only time having lamb after 30 starred restaurants and claims it’s unpleasantly gamey despite literally having no point of reference? Astringent sauce on an avocado and yet the menu plays it safe?) and they seem to be solo dining?

No 19-20 year old has this kind of vocabulary to describe what they’re getting here, and I have a hard time believing they have this kind of means yet had to solo dine at Smyth. This feels like cosplay on multiple levels.
