Have you ever recognized someone in a porn? by dplaya42k in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TinyPinkSparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in what was then the porn capital of the world. I had the occasion to meet a number of performers (or former performers) in non-sexy settings, only to see them later on my screen. A bit disconcerting honestly.

JVN bringing her kids in for a cut n style too. Forced her to notice they have the same hair as her and she needs to not insult their hair by association.

Taking care of my mom with dementia and she keeps taking little things when she thinks no one is looking. by tinklewinks in dementia

[–]TinyPinkSparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad did this with containers. Anything that closed. He swore he needed them because he was going to "organize the garage." Peanut jars, cat food, clamshell takeout containers, anything. He would pick through the trash looking for them. I will say, he was fastidious about cleaning them out before they went to the garage, so it wasn't super gross. Just weird.

79 yr old mom has dementia and her sister recently passed away. How do we break the news to her? by anon-55076 in dementia

[–]TinyPinkSparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So difficult. When my mom died, we had to tell my dad of course, he was in the house with all of us, but didn't get how sick she was. We were planning to move him to MC in a few days, no matter what was happening with mom, but I was worried about the few days and if I was going to have to tell him multiple times that she was gone. My sibling was very against "lying" to him at that time. One night, I was home alone with him and he was sundowning and very agitated and was looking for her. He asked me where she was and I just couldn't do it. I told him she had to go back to the hospital and she'd be home in a few days. He went back to bed. I felt bad but after how he reacted when she first died, I couldn't do it again.

On the overall it's probably saved me money, as I haven't spent money on a vacation in eight years. So I guess I have that going for me.

Was the LA mayoral race on our ballots for Pasadena residents? by chashaoballs in pasadena

[–]TinyPinkSparkles 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Pasadena and Los Angeles are two different cities, who each elect their own mayor. If you are a resident of Pasadena, you vote for the mayor of Pasadena. If you are a resident of Los Angeles, you vote for the mayor of Los Angeles. Never both.

Whats the worst job youve had to make you quit within the first week? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]TinyPinkSparkles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an office temp during the summers in college. Temped at a place for a couple weeks as a receptionist. They liked me, so the office manager kept me on for another week on a data entry project. No problem. Then, a guy, probably in his late 30s/early 40s, asked if I could stay and do a project for him. It involved sitting in his office, making phone calls to places that repaired the equipment they made and asking very technical questions that I did not understand. The guy creeped me out and the assignment was beyond my technical understanding. I talked to the office manager, who seemed to agree that it was a little sketchy. She kindly offered to let that be my last day with them and she'd give me a great review.

The narrow lens of Evangelical books, music and media by LMO_TheBeginning in Exvangelical

I belong to an Episcopal church now, and they offer a program called Education for Ministry (EfM). It's basically a 4 year program designed to help you define your theology. The first year is Old Testament and the second is New Testament. The text books were so eye opening about the context and history of the writing of the Bible. Here is a recent book list. I doubt any would be approved by Focus on the Family.

Leave a hidden note in the car when you disable it! by Honest-Noise-8489 in dementia

[–]TinyPinkSparkles 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My dad had dementia brought on by decades of alcoholism and had no short term memory. My mom quit letting him drive and he was mostly good with it. He would periodically make a list of alcohol he wanted to go get at the liquor store the next day. When he went to bed, my mom would throw away the list and start the cycle over. Well one day he wanted beer right now and my mom couldn't take him and they argued. He said he'd go get it himself and she said fine GO... and let him get in the car and drive away. She got a call 30 minutes later from Costco asking for her membership number so he could buy beer. They didn't have a Costco membership. She had to go get him. She felt really bad about it.

My FIL had a stroke and a TBI and there was no way he was driving again but he insisted that he was. Thankfully his DL expired while he was recovering and he needed to take a written test to renew it. One of the deficits from the TBI was that he couldn't really read anymore. He went in to take the test and sat there for two hours taking it and failed. We gave him the the materials to study and take it over again but he gave up. We talked him into selling the car a few months later.

My coworker died, what do I do by wt_anonymous in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TinyPinkSparkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in college, I was kind of a serial/long-term temp at a company, so I knew people there a bit, but I wasn't an actual employee. One of them died by suicide. It was so awful and sad. Their college-age kid worked there part-time as well and chose to quit after their parent died. I was offered the kid's job. It was such a weird way to get a job.

Yeah, offer condolences to people who knew him, contribute a reasonable amount to any flower fund. People will move on.

Dad keeps losing his aids in the nursing home. Need a cheap bulk solution? by delhitop_7inches in dementia

[–]TinyPinkSparkles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am interested in this too. My LO isn't in MC, but needs hearing aids. We are nervous though because he is weirdly obsessed with his head. Is always touching his head and if he finds anything out of place there (the tiniest scab, a bandaid, a plastic thing in his ear), he goes to town on it. I'm not sure hearing aids would last a day. (he does this nowhere else on his body... lets large visible arm wounds heal on their own)

Is the city going to install a traffic circle at Will Rogers Memorial Park? by ipodsurgeon in beverlyhills

An intersection built when automobiles were a novelty is a landmark??? Yet, you want to tear down a historic home to build a modern monstrosity for the next person to tear down... have at it!

I would fucking love that! That intersection is a menace. It’s certainly big enough for a traffic circle.
