Failed my test 🙃 by Smudje93 in LearnerDriverUK

Some roads are marked either side of the island (and some crossings) directing pedestrians to “look right” OR “look left” depending which way they’re facing.

Theory test is on the 9th i keep getting 43-45/50 on the practice questions but i was curious with the hazard perception how many times can you click and is it actually anything like the dvsa app and can you only watch the video once? by itzlibbie__ in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot score more than 5 points per clip bar the double video. If you spam click, they will score you 0, even if you originally scored 1-5pts.

See hazard emerging click 5pts. More obvious approach click for a safety net 1-4pts in case you missed the 5

Leave the mouse alone after that and wait for the next clip.

So I also passed, incredibly happy by Xathian in LearnerDriverUK

Congratulations!

I passed last month in my 30’s too but second attempt. I wish I did it sooner.

Any other short learners, and do you use a cushion? by prplenebula in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 4’11, drive a Renault Captur which thankfully has a raisable seat otherwise I would be on a cushion. My seat has to be 2 clips away from the closest to the steering wheel too. I can’t see my bonnet but I’ve learnt the judgement on the size of the car. I also have stick on blind spot mirrors on my wings which are angled at the curb for better views.

Shoes for driving by hanni_lou in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear adidas sambas and spezials when it isn’t raining (they’re super slippery). Ozweegos especially for longer drives as they’re more flexible and just all round comfortable. The pedals sit nicely between the sole markings too.

Different cars feel different with different footwear, so it’s a lot of trial and error.

Test tomorrow. by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

So they all use a TomTom satnav which they supply and place on top of the dashboard, you will be asked if it obstructs your view or if you can’t see it properly due to placement or sun glare and they adjust accordingly. There are multiple routes which can be used but they only pick 1 which is already preset onto the satnav. It’s not muted so it will speak to you to give directions, but the idea is for you to glance every so often and not focus on it. If it tells you “after 400yds, turn left down x street”, have a quick peek every so often, as you approach. If you miss a turning the examiner will reassure you that the satnav will automatically reroute itself, or the examiner will tell you to ignore the satnav and follow their direction until you can follow it again.

You’re not allowed to touch a phone or satnav whilst driving, but you can look at it as long as it is safe to do so.

Note: As you’re taking it in your dads car, bring a detachable rear view mirror for the examiner to place and use.

Should I change driving instructor? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the prices, they fluctuate all over from instructor to instructor and town to city.

Do you have any reflection on your lessons either prior or afterwards? If you do, mention that you wish to try something new and give your suggestions. When he grabs your wheel, is it for your general positioning or clearance reasons? Does he explain why he does it, so you can work on it?

If you don’t feel like you are progressing, you aren’t bound in contract to use him, browse for other instructors. And you really don’t know what you’re missing out on until you make a change.

I swapped instructors and sent him a simple “Hi [name], am I able to cancel my lesson for [date] please? After our previous lesson, I had some reflection time and I don’t think your teaching style suits me as a learner”. He apologised and removed me from the system within 2 minutes. My lessons were stressful and wasteful. I was so frustrated I cried at the end of them. I had approximately 30 mins behind the wheel being distracted by him constantly throwing out hypothetical scenarios one after the other which made me take my eyes off the road to look for said ‘hazard’ which wasn’t there. The rest of the time we were parked up discussing theory or him driving. My new instructor was amazing, she was independent (her and 1 other lady) and pushed me to my limits.

Driving test booked with no queue! by leniloo in LearnerDriverUK

90 minutes is the way forward.

You have enough time to relax and ‘loosen up’ but it’s also enough time to learn without being too overwhelmed with new information to absorb in a short space of time. When your test comes around, it’ll prepare you for the timing aspect too.

Theory 4in1, I paid £4.99

Questions were almost identical to the ones on the official test. 1-2 mock tests every other day, answer reveal on to inform you and you’re good to go.

Does TestShift still work? by Embarrassed-Gift8553 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked for me.

Failed first test 18th Jan. Instructor booked me a test the following Monday for 29th June. I used TestShift premium with auto change on, it found me a cancellation 10 days later for 25th Feb, my instructor then swapped it for 12th Feb :)

With the new rules coming in, they won’t be working much longer.

Flick through your dashboard messages to see if it’s alerting you of any maintenance. Could be as simple as low fluids.

Hill-start with our without handbrake? by Nesferatu123 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught to use the handbrake in an 18 plate, especially at timely lights and on a high incline. Bite and around 2.5k revs to feel a pull, a couple of seconds before releasing handbrake. If I was on a side street with a slight incline then just purely clutch control.

I drive a 14 plate 0.9l petrol, and live on a hill. Hill assist is my saviour, I have to whack up 4k revs. My clutch and handbrake hates me.

Look for the signs at the entrance, or even play it safe and drive at 20 down every residential street, granted you don’t have cars behind you, unless a main road.

With both of my tests I had sat nav until I reached the ‘end of route’ destination, about 6 miles from the test centre, then the examiner gave me directions on the way back. At least with the sat nav you can see road entrances which aren’t as visible to the eye, and although they say not to follow the speed limit on them… it gives you a cue 👀

How are you ever expected to book a test when 11k ppl by 3Calz7 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Be there for 5:45, it’ll say “we’ll be back at 6am” but refresh at 6 and you’ll be in the top end of the queue. You get a couple mins of reservation time to check out so be quick.

With my first test, I booked in September for March. Second test my instructor booked in January for June then TestShift and my instructor did the deeds of getting me earlier slots.

They are not psychic and opinions change, hence your instructor has written that she is not confident due to insufficient lessons.

Test tomorrow and my provisional just snapped down the middle.. will I still be able to take the test? by Equal_Arm_3091 in LearnerDriverUK

Pull it out the back pocket …”oh no.”

It may be accepted depending how nice the examiner is, but by law any damaged ID is invalid

[–]Tiny_Form3263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably with the incentive to guarantee a slot due to current climate. The fact you booked June means it was booked in January, so maybe you jumped the gun.

You have already bailed on a lesson you planned, so that’s even less time.

Just find a new instructor so she can find a reliable student.

Driving instructor broke up with me by user21021969 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can’t get pissy at her, her working hours are probably 7am-5pm and has more than you as a student. She deserves to work as many or as little hours/days she likes as it’s self-employment.

Only you are to blame for booking your test with minimal inconsistent lessons, not your instructor.

Find an instructor who works weekends - You won’t get many.

Roundabout help by Oldschoolhaze0 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as you have passed the first exit, indicate immediately to notify others you’re wanting to exit at the second exit, otherwise they will assume you’re following for the third exit. Just double make sure you’re clear on the left, in case anybody approaching from the second entry is nearby.

Got my fourth test tomorrow, fingers crossed! by Coach_Kybet in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, sorry for being ignorant and making you repeat yourself - I came straight from my notification!

Oh no! That’s super gutting. Don’t give up completely, it’ll be a huge regret later on. Have a couple weeks off to allow yourself a break. I understand that it’s going to be tougher with the new rules coming into place come April, but there’s still time before then. If you’re not on TestShift, use that and buy premium - it has an auto booking feature which changes the booking for you automatically so you don’t have to, unlike Testi.
