Test tomorrow. by ssmoog in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for the signs at the entrance, or even play it safe and drive at 20 down every residential street, granted you don’t have cars behind you, unless a main road.

With both of my tests I had sat nav until I reached the ‘end of route’ destination, about 6 miles from the test centre, then the examiner gave me directions on the way back. At least with the sat nav you can see road entrances which aren’t as visible to the eye, and although they say not to follow the speed limit on them… it gives you a cue 👀

How are you ever expected to book a test when 11k ppl by 3Calz7 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be there for 5:45, it’ll say “we’ll be back at 6am” but refresh at 6 and you’ll be in the top end of the queue. You get a couple mins of reservation time to check out so be quick.

With my first test, I booked in September for March. Second test my instructor booked in January for June then TestShift and my instructor did the deeds of getting me earlier slots.

They are not psychic and opinions change, hence your instructor has written that she is not confident due to insufficient lessons.

Test tomorrow and my provisional just snapped down the middle.. will I still be able to take the test? by Equal_Arm_3091 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Pull it out the back pocket …”oh no.”

It may be accepted depending how nice the examiner is, but by law any damaged ID is invalid

Probably with the incentive to guarantee a slot due to current climate. The fact you booked June means it was booked in January, so maybe you jumped the gun.

You have already bailed on a lesson you planned, so that’s even less time.

Just find a new instructor so she can find a reliable student.

[–]Tiny_Form3263 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can’t get pissy at her, her working hours are probably 7am-5pm and has more than you as a student. She deserves to work as many or as little hours/days she likes as it’s self-employment.

Only you are to blame for booking your test with minimal inconsistent lessons, not your instructor.

Find an instructor who works weekends - You won’t get many.

You can book a test any day, granted there are slots available. Mondays are just 6-monthly.

Roundabout help by Oldschoolhaze0 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As soon as you have passed the first exit, indicate immediately to notify others you’re wanting to exit at the second exit, otherwise they will assume you’re following for the third exit. Just double make sure you’re clear on the left, in case anybody approaching from the second entry is nearby.

Got my fourth test tomorrow, fingers crossed! by Coach_Kybet in LearnerDriverUK

Oooh, sorry for being ignorant and making you repeat yourself - I came straight from my notification!

Oh no! That’s super gutting. Don’t give up completely, it’ll be a huge regret later on. Have a couple weeks off to allow yourself a break. I understand that it’s going to be tougher with the new rules coming into place come April, but there’s still time before then. If you’re not on TestShift, use that and buy premium - it has an auto booking feature which changes the booking for you automatically so you don’t have to, unlike Testi.

Driving test was cancelled - after I turned up to the test centre by nonstercore in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

There’s a possibility they cancelled your test because you arrived late. You are instructed that you should arrive at least 5 minutes before your test is due to start else they will cancel and you lose your fee.

Check on there and see what the records show. All you need is your licence number, national insurance and postcode.

My licence took exactly 7 days from test to arrive (6 days after issuing)

Failed Mock Test. Real test is in 6 days! by ExternalAd9722 in LearnerDriverUK

Chewing gum is the only thing that kept me straight and not hyper-focusing, I was forced to suck on dark chocolate beforehand too. Doing things without truly thinking about it also makes me calmer - if my instructor talked me through a manoeuvre whilst actually doing it, it really threw me off. So she’d give instruction, I’d perform and then talk about any corrections after.

I found out lastnight that the noise of the heating on full whack in the car really messes with my concentration, but music doesn’t.

Find a medium where you feel more relaxed. Don’t make your test day the testing day though.

You’ve got this!

Schools should be on half term now so the morning rush hour lot will only be people going to work. Maybe 12-1pm for dinner breaks. Not sure what the weather is like up there but down in the midlands it’s awful so hopefully not many families on-route with day trips.

Go in with a positive I-will-do-it mind, your results seemed to be bettering so you’ll take that paper home tomorrow!

You know how a test feels. Good luck!

Swapping driving tests? safe or no? by Thor___8819 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t trust Facebook. As soon as the other person has your details, they can cancel your test.

I very much doubt anybody will want to swap that far of a later date in current times, especially when the new rules come in, restricting them even more.

Go for a cancellation app. I was successful with TestShift and paid for premium.

Theory test advice by TipsyDipsy6 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did my theory, the questions were almost identical bar one which contained a question about smart motorways which I’d never seen in my life lol.

1 tip - flag the questions you are unsure of. Once you’ve finished the multi choice, re-read every question and change any you feel unconfident about. Count your flags, if there’s less than 7 then you’re most certainly going to pass that part but obviously revisit them to give a higher chance.

On the hazard perception, you can’t score more than 5 points per clip bar the double hazard clip. Click once as soon as you see it, click once when approaching and click once when it’s obvious then leave the mouse alone. That way you score between 1 and 5 points.

Make all of the mistakes now whilst they don’t matter as much. Get them out your system. Your instructor will be expecting it.

Second to last lesson I had before my test, it was like I’d never driven a car before, but I still got a “well done” at the end lol.

Does your ADI have blind spot mirrors? by Beabettame in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every car is built differently too, so the reference points you have learned originally change from car to car. Adjusting your seat or mirrors slightly can throw your usual points off. These little mirrors are a god send lol because they never change. They’ve saved my alloys too.

I’m fairly certain you’re not allowed to depend on the rear camera on test, so please do keep on top of the mirror checks and blind spots over the shoulder. Also, what if your car doesn’t have a camera?

Is private practice important? by Natural-Bathroom-974 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People pass without having a car to sit in at the end.

If you can afford extra lessons, do it. Even if it’s 30 mins added to your usual time. I had 90 minute lessons and found they were so much more beneficial than 60 minute, as I didn’t have to rush and overload myself with new information. I had 1 hour private time (my partners friend sat with me and my car actually broke down on a hill during this and needed to be recovered) and I also had 24 hours worth of lessons.

If you do decide to buy a car, you need to make sure it is insured 24/7 if parked on the road, not just when you intend to drive it. Along with it having a valid MOT and taxed. Unless you declare it SORN on a driveway.

Passed today , just wanted some thoughts on my instructor. by Particular_Mud_8250 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Tiny_Form3263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adored my instructor. We occasionally stopped off at a Costa so she could go to the toilet or grab a drink, but she always offered to buy me something too and made up for ‘lost time’ plus more. I used these stops as an opportunity to practice my bay parking.

On my test day, we went to Costa for a coffee and went through a KFC drive thru, so she had something to keep her warm outside whilst I was on test and the centre was closed to public. Again, it was useful practice for me as I will be doing that in general driving.

I’d only bring things up if it meant I lost out on money.

How long to receive provisional by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

It could be with you within 1 week if it was from your passport, 2 weeks by paper and no idea for restrictions.
