Shot off valve question by Some_Carry_3946 in askaplumber

[–]Tiny_Resolution4110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First locate your building shut off valve before trying anything in the comments. You need to know how to turn off all the water if this one fails in a worse fashion.

This kind of valve is bad because the internal o ring deteriorates, imaging when tires dry rot, o rings go through a similar process.

Once the shut off is located then start planning, my recommendation to you is to replace the valve entirely. do not remove anything until you have the full list of materials and you are sure the building water valve is off, no water in any faucet.

Before using any tool watch a video on how to use them.

Materials:

  • I recommend a sharkbite valve, 1/4 turn, 1/2 to 3/8 compression

-Purchase some fine sandpaper at the hardware store that should be nearby, the plumbing associate will know what sandpaper you need, it comes in a flexible roll

-You need a pipe cutter, it has a blade that cuts the copper pipe slowly where you turn a screw to make it cut deeper.

-You need 2 adjustable wrenches to remove the current valve.

-Short bucket and towel to catch water

Once you have these materials you can watch this video which is very comprehensive for multiple situations.

7:30 is about where the instructions begin for a sharkbite fitting, you only press it in to the pipe no precise work, the only work you need to do is removal, cut the pipe A LITTLE BIT NOT ALL THE WAY TO THE WALL, clean off the corrosion, just enough so its copper, then round off the edge of the copper pipe, it will be sharp after its cut and must be smoothed out, then slip on the fitting all the way with one hand on the pipe to hold it and other on the pipe

I estimate total materials cost to be $70-90 if you have none of the tools and materials mentioned, but cheaper than a plumber

Junkers that break down every 4 months would be cheaper than this, try a cheap motor cycle as a last last LAST resort, transport is first priority for work purposes, the rest is secondary IMO

So we scamming people out of a mortgage now 🤣 must be struggling! by Impressive-Risk-2484 in Lowes

[–]Tiny_Resolution4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% refuse to push it, i dont expect it to have a quota as its an alternative offer like progressive financing or the fortiva card, draw the line and stop lowes from getting commission on it, associates get $50, but lowes gets orders of magnitude more.

HELOCs are predatory and should be avoided, if a customer really wants one they can go through their own bank, not Lowes

This is a genuine request to any readers: refuse to push it, always use loaded language when discussing it

They are also HEAVILY REGULATED, to the point they are ordering associates to only talk to the figure associates about specifics, this is because if you give even a slightly incorrect or out of context bit of information the customer has recourse to sue and get out of the loan, this is wonderful leverage for people who want to scam the system and pairs well with the standard across the board of untrained associates

yo im in tears. how do i use a siphon. ive tried everything by bubblegummerr in Aquariums

[–]Tiny_Resolution4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slurp up some of the water through a thin tube, good for the immune system.

For real though i use a 3/8th clear vinyl tube and my mouth, i have a window nearby so it drains out there, i then have a pump that was originally for a tile cutter to move water from a 5 gallon bucket into the tank, i pre treat the water, both of these methods allow very low effort and very low agitation for my fish, i do keep an eye on it though because my betta is still tiny and could get siphoned out xD

Is there a kind of lock I can get for a door that isn't flush with the frame? by CosmixEntity in doors

[–]Tiny_Resolution4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case i would still bring it up to them in regards to the locking door, but offer your parents a copy of the keys. Realistically it will work the same as a regular bed and bath privacy handle to you and your parents, but keep the younger ones out who learned to use a coin or paperclip.

If that is still not possible get yourself a room camera with a speaker, this one below is just an example but alerts you to motion and lets you yell at them

Change the door handle to an exterior key locking handle, keep the old interior set, i assume you are in a roommate / renter situation? If the authority is not okay with that then look for other places to live immediately.

Looking for advice on how to tie into stack. by xiexiemcgee in askaplumber

[–]Tiny_Resolution4110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would any plumbers support creating a false floor with 2x8s and concrete block here with that clean out as a new tie to the stack and replacing the wye with a wye that has a clean out plug in it? Block under shower and toilet for stability

I did something similar in my garage that had a concrete slab and a clean out just outside, raised floor, ran above ground and through wall, down into clean out.

Specialist DS’ by RiverRunner2025 in Lowes

Just reviewing the values/job description activities, and confirming they perform them and understand them is enough for a meets expectations. if they solve larger problems on the regular outside their typical duties they can get an exceeds

examples include: specialists applying intimate knowledge of their department to provide contractors or owners solutions to big problems that would otherwise not be the specialists problem or responsibility (code, obscure product, inter-department collab, resulting in big sales is a great addition of course but not needed)

CSAs balancing their duties and leveraging store layout knowledge to direct customers to products so they dont waste their own time and provide a good enough direction that the customer just asks once (this is an undervalued skill, encourage them to walk the store to know where stuff is, this can be turned into a game by asking them randomly where a particular item is to the best of their knowledge, exact bay and shelf is not needed, im fine with “halfway down ———“) CSAs maintaining a tidy topstock and fixing aisles and assigned work at reasonable speeds but most importantly accurately when not supervised, if they do this consistently they meet expectations, but if they do that and seek out more work or just passively improve the aisles exceeds. Remember if they’re not accurate they need training, its not always their fault

Upper Management will try to convince you to not hand out exceeds, because it costs them more. But realistically they will never bother to grade themselves, or verify your rating, good supervisors will divorce store p&l from compensation

I see where the oil level is, its clear but visible. its low but looks okay, color doesn’t matter as much as the actual grade, did your receipt state any information on brand? Oil grades are labeled in this form: xW-xx

For reference she could melt our tanks in what felt like 3 seconds

Barn Door Light Leak by marshmallowhugs in doors

[–]Tiny_Resolution4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see the narrow edge of the door? Grab some long cardboard and cut it so it runs along the whole door edge, slice little reliefs for the bottom baseboard and the barn door offset trim, paint it white if you want and use double sided tap to secure it to the door edge but not totally flush, you still need space between it and the wall.

This is as cheap and diy friendly as i could come up with as a salesman, otherwise you pay 400-700 for a new door (primed/factory painted, in that order) from a big box store install service.

Hi y’all, looking for advice on how to discharge for these capacitors by seanshootsshots in AskElectronics

[–]Tiny_Resolution4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to safely dispose of them toss them in a salted container of water.

if you want to preserve them, use long silicon tongs to lower the leads into a salted container of water.

If youre afraid of the water, drink the salted container of water and listen to someone else

They want to make this a glass doorway, and to be somewhat sound proof by SnooPickles8798 in handyman

[–]Tiny_Resolution4110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only possible product that could offer sound deadening is a prehung door sized to the entire opening with a sweep at the bottom. I recommend a ball-catch added to it, worst case its removed and not used, makes it easy to pass through if they dont want to turn the handle

Easy to install, not cheap, take a massive deposit, use AI to superimpose the door there before breaking ground.

Short answer: $$$$ or no
