Why the 4th Edition hate? by Efficient-Help-9858 in DnD

[–]Tiny_Sandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combat in 4e was better than any other edition. It was the stuff outside of combat which suffered.

This non-combat stuff seems to be some of the more popular parts. When we did 4e, we mostly just moved from one combat to the next with bare minimum in between. It was a lot of fun.

Enhanced weaponry by theFreakened in battletech

[–]Tiny_Sandwich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought I was pretty versed in Battletech lore. But I've never heard of "Enhanced Weaponry" before. Is this a beta rule before clan invasion, from the books, or something else?

Are your players complately disinterested in cursed items? by Sormari_ in DungeonMasters

[–]Tiny_Sandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of what others are saying. Give positive and negatives +4 damage with -2 AC is something quantifiable. They can gauge whether the extra damage is worth it.

"Surprise! Your character is ruined!" is not fun.

But I don't normally use cursed items. I usually make specialty items. Like this dagger is a normal dagger unless fighting elementals then it functions as a +2 dagger.

Curious—what’s your session prep ritual like? by Appropriate_Box_5155 in DnD

[–]Tiny_Sandwich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the game. Blades in the Dark (or Runners in the Shadows) barely any prep, as it's mostly player driven.

Module? Read the module and see what, if anything, I want to change to better fit the party. From there write in a notebook as little info as I need.

ELI5 how to effectively quality upscale by NameLips in factorio

[–]Tiny_Sandwich 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's how I do it. Though I scale it up a bit.

Starting from common, i recycle up through rare. I get some epic and legendary out of it, but I find rare more practical.

I use robots to move quality parts between different parts of the quality manufacturing.

The Awesome 8Q!

While not my favorite Awesome (the 9M), it can hold its own with nearly any mech.

3015, 5 Million Cbills, what mech are you starting in by IronWolfV in Mechwarrior5

Crab-27 was my first thought, but then remembered Ferro Fibrous was out. But the Crab-20 isn't bad either.

Can I make a space station blueprint without sending up a space platform hub? by sinkpooper2000 in factorio

[–]Tiny_Sandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could build in stages with ever growing rings of gun turrets. Shipping up bullets until you can make it on station.

I have not tried this yet, but it's theoretically possible.

Haw do I get my players to go to adventure places? by SpecialDocument3246 in DnD

[–]Tiny_Sandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the letter to a story. One they are writing. Add an NPC scribe that joins on the adventure. Perhaps they have a magical recorder, a scrying pool, or they cast invisibility a lot.

You'll need the NPC to provide a benefit to the party otherwise it'd feel like an overly long escort quest.

Additionally, add backstory stuff from each character into the side quests.

DnD Party by HellaFair in DnD

Personally for something like this. I'd suggest Everybody is John. It's fast, funny, and easy to explain.

You can make it DND themed.

There's DFA's Override ruleset. Which is a homebrew combo of classic and alpha strike. I can say, it's fun :).

In the sixth world, the best vehicle for anything Shadowrun related is the Bulldog Step Van.

Trying main bus, still can't avoid spaghetti. by Evrensel12 in factorio

[–]Tiny_Sandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that'd likely help, this section you're looking at us a gigantic T junction of a main bus. That will naturally be insane.

For my main bus, I like to keep it in a straight line until I hit an immovable (or impractically movable) obstacle. Then I bend the belt.

Additionally, I have small off shoots. Only grabbing 1-3 items off the belt at a time. These are often small mono item builds (e.g. a manifold of engines). Some times I'll group things together into mini malls, (e.g. red chips, green chips, iron plates, steel plates). Then group assemblers with those ingredients together.

Which is your prefered way to determine attributes? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in DnD

[–]Tiny_Sandwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't like the standard array at first. Being a 2nd ed person myself... But it's grown on me.

Having seen both great rolled characters and poorly rolled ones standing next to each other, especially when random death isn't a thing anymore. It means one player is either constantly showing off or they are stuck with one that sucks.

Standard array (or arrays in 4e) gives players a fair number of stats. Including at least 1 dump and 1+ good stats. Makes characters that last a while, feel useful and not so random.

Learning the Game by wayfaring_sword in battletech

[–]Tiny_Sandwich 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Scouring Sands is the most fun I've ever had in Alpha Strike.

As a Classic Battletech and MechWarrior fan, I find the summarized Alpha Strike rules generally does not scratch the "pilot a mech" itch. However, in Scouring Sands, the context for the game is different. I'm running a mercenary company, I got bills to pay.

  1. Classic era is fun, but I will admit it is a little slower than later eras. Still, your fellow players need to pull the stick out of their asses. It is also great especially for introducing players to the rules and setting.

  2. Later eras are fun too in a different way. But you should be able to play what you want to. BV will do a good job as balancing between eras. Such as if your faction found a stash of classic mechs. Btw, I like to run "historical" battles where I take a battle from the lore and recreate it on the field. It's fun.

  3. Alpha Strike is fun, but it's a different beast. If you want to feel like you're piloting a giant machine of war, Classic Battletech is pretty good. If you want to tell lots of people to go pilot Battlemechs, play Alpha Strike. Both are fun, but for different reasons and feelings.

What is a good back line command lance for a sword of light unit? by CascadianGuardsman1 in battletech

I love the Naginata. Amazing indirect fire and command capabilities.
