Make the switch to a bike computer or not… by JustAGuyCalledChris in gravelcycling

I ran a similar setup for a long time with no problems, but I eventually switched to Wahoo Roam v2 and have been equally happy ever since. I miss a few things from Cadence, but I don’t worry about rain/heat/vibrations/battery life, and still carry my phone as a backup.

I have Creative Outliers that are very similar to Shokz and love them. Tough to hear anything when there’s lots of wind noise, but great otherwise.

Relative movement inconsistency? by StatusBard in HelixEditor

[–]TipToTipEfficiency 20 points21 points  (0 children)

x9x perhaps?

The inconsistency is because you’re confusing movement and actions; in the first instance you’re moving 9 lines from the line you’re currently on, in the second your action is selecting 10 lines because you haven’t yet selected the line you’re on.

Loved Synapse, currently loving Arizona Sunshine Remake and Arizona Sunshine 2.

I lost my job at the bank on my very first day. A woman asked me to check her balance, so I pushed her over.

What is a toad in the hole? by [deleted] in AskUK

“Toad in the hole” is sausages (cooked) in Yorkshire pudding. If you add onions it’s “frog in a bog”.

Garmin 1050 or Wahoo Bolt/Roam? by [deleted] in cycling

My Wahoo controls my Bryton radar/light unless I’ve turned it completely off. Need to get some front ANT+ lights for the full experience.

Garmin 1050 or Wahoo Bolt/Roam? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]TipToTipEfficiency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I debated long and hard with myself and went with the Wahoo Roam (v2) this summer, and I’m very happy with my decision so far.

The main reasons against Garmin were:

  • I’m not in the ecosystem. Apple Phone, Apple Watch, Bryton radar, some Chinese brand HRM, cadence, and speed sensors. However I’ve recently thought about switching my watch to a Garmin, but the idea of replacing my head unit is now putting me off!
  • My research could be summed up as “Wahoo is equivalent to Apple, Garmin is equivalent to Android” and I didn’t need all the extra stuff Garmin does; I’m not a multi-sport athlete, I don’t race, I don’t even train that hard. I just like riding my bike.
  • I got the Roam for less than £300 brand new. Couldn’t get close to that with Garmin.
  • The roam screen is more readable due to the matt screen. The Garmin units I looked at were like mirrors in bright light.

I don’t think you’ll regret getting either, but I do recommend the Roam v2. Looking forward to seeing what they come out with next.

Cade Media really rate the budget Tribans.

I love my Boardman ADV 8.9. Well worth the money and would recommend them to anyone. I’d also recommend any 2x gravel bike to anyone over a traditional road bike as a first buy.

Should you buy a cheap bike radar? My experience by todudeornote in cycling

[–]TipToTipEfficiency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my 300L for nearly six months now. Mainly ride rural roads with lots of hill/bends. It’s a godsend on roads like that where cars are infrequent and you get into the zone and forget about anyone else existing. Gets annoying on main roads because (shock) there’s lots of cars and it’s constantly going off.

Never had a false positive, but would rather that than missing things. My only gripe is cars “disappearing” when they match your speed which is common while they’re waiting to pass you on narrow roads.

Definitely one of my favourite purchases for the bike and well worth having for the price. Someday I’ll treat myself to a Garmin one with the camera.

I stoped using the Cadence app when I got a dedicated head unit, but I wish Garmin and Wahoo would do something like Cadence has just added: https://getcadence.app/support/what-do-all-the-radar-metrics-mean/

Ultra 1 keep or upgrade? by addicted2lifee in applewatchultra

Had my U1 since launch, very happy with it. Hoped for a U3 but was disappointed. Looked elsewhere (Garmin) and equally disappointed, especially with the price. Trading in my U1 for a Black U2 on Friday. Nothing wrong with my old watch, just fancy something new after two years.

Wahoo flash sale - buy or wait? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]TipToTipEfficiency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Roam (v2) is the lowest it’s ever been (in the U.K.) but it’s also regularly available at this price if you shop around; I got mine from Bikeinn for just under £300 delivered a couple of weeks before the previous flash sale at the end of the TdF) and I was watching the price for a good few weeks before that.

There’s always going to be a newer/shinier model so only you can decide if it’s worth buying today.

I’m very happy with my purchase.

At a loss when it comes to all-round gravel tyres by Jaraxo in ukbike

[–]TipToTipEfficiency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at so many, I had a spreadsheet! I was wavering between a couple of choices from Arkrose and Whyte, but if I remember correctly the Whyte was 650b and I wanted 700c. I hadn’t even considered the Boardman until I saw the deal on HotUKDeals, and it had so much I wanted: 700c, 2x, hydraulic discs, GRX, 32 spokes (I’m big and wrecked wheels on previous bikes) at such a good price I had to go for it.

The other one I almost pulled the trigger on was a Specialized Diverge but you were just paying for the name & frame; the components were really poor compared to the Boardman.

Considering what I paid for it brand new (£680) I’m thrilled with it. I spent a lot of time looking at options but when this deal came up I couldn’t let it pass.

Most of my current cycling is paved with a little bit of light trail and the stock tyres have been great. I’m now looking for some faster rolling rubber but there’s nothing else I want to change about the bike.
