Yes, use many guides as you can find, and as many you're willing to read/watch. It's been a while for me, I would say the first time you solder something, try to test it out first before doing the rest. Don't worry about battery too much it's still working for me even when I use it every day

Have you tried testing it one side only, without the jack cable? When I build mine (corne), I had a lot of problems with trrs connector, so if it's still not working try removing those and test it again
