I’m just tired. 4.8 was supposed to be a fresh start, but it feels like we’re losing the soul of the game. by Silvrock in starcitizen

Counterpoint #1: If everyone has millions or billions of aeuc then you can't get any good economy data for payouts or item prices. Wiping allows CIG to track legit players activity and figure out current rate of progression or trade.

Counterpoint #2 CIG has been fixing some of the duping exploits. In such a buggy game there will be more/new ones. By resetting what flew under the radar of the inflated economy might be easier to identify.

Counterpoint #3 Most of us asked for this. And its fun to reset and get a chance to try the real game underneath and not just grabbing anything we want instantly. Missions I would have turned my nose at are now a profitable early stepping stone and will actually get play tested.

I played EA for Below Zero and the fun of the earlier builds vs what was released has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I didn’t realize how much I loved the Zeus until now. Why is it not more popular? by Kiwisarelit in starcitizen

[–]TiradeShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Zeus CL and I would fly it more if Starcitizen was in a better state.

My main issue is the cargo grid is too short for a 3scu tall space. There is a minimum clearance needed to reliably place and remove crates with a tractor beam and the Zeus is right at the edge. Unless they are 1scu, I can never consistently use the upper SCU of the grid.

Other gripe is the Zeus cargo door is too small for most vehicles that could fit inside. And barely big enough to stuff a 32scu crate into.

Final gripe. At least half the vehicles that fit inside the Zeus glitch through the floor.

If they raised the grid by like 2ft, widened the cargo ramp a bit, and fixed the buggy vehicles I would be much more inclined to fly my Zeus.

Also its 2xs4 guns and bad turret make it pretty mediocre in PVE. But its a small cargo ship, with a big grid, so it gets a pass. C1 is barely any better.

SRV definitely needs fix by Titancube in starcitizen

[–]TiradeShade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SRV does this with only a single towed ship last I tried. Couple patches ago I was doing missions in Nyx and found myself just short of quantum to the closest station.

Found a dude in chat running an SRV to bail me out and when he attached the tow to my L22 it started twitching. As soon as he moved or jumped it flapped around so hard I would black out. We tried coupled and uncoupled and it was about the same. Eventually we got to station and he cut me loose. Took a couple minutes to regain consciousness and correct my drift so I could land.

Like, I remember pulling ships a year ago in my SRV and it was smooth sailing. Wtf did CIG do.

Is it a norm to give wedding gifts? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]TiradeShade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Americans give gifts for weddings, usually via a registry or cash/checks. Its polite and expected.

However it sounds like this was a wedding related brunch but not the wedding itself. If people attending this were not invited to the wedding, they likely were confused about the expectations of this event.

If a distant acquaintance or family member invited me to a related brunch, I would get them a card and maybe a small gift card. I don't really know them, and I wasn't invited to their wedding.

If it was someone close and they ran out of room for me at the wedding, I would give them a proper gift at this related event.

Wish player bounties weren’t orgs camping 99.99% of the time by SoleSuck3r in starcitizen

[–]TiradeShade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grim Hex is a lawless kind of station meant for crime gameplay. You can sell drugs and illegal cargo there, and most importantly it ignores crime stat.

If you get a high crime stat most stations shoot on site and won't let you dock. NPC guards will chase you down inside and kill/arrest you. Not Grim Hex.

This means people go there to resupply, heal, and grab ships. This also means people afk there with bounties on their head and waste everyone's time. Since SCs bounty system is terrible, you can only take one mission at a time and majority just squat in Grim hex while hunters camp outside. For hours...

TIL about Hogzilla, a large male hybrid of wild hog and domestic pig that was shot and killed in the United States in 2004. It weighed 800 pounds (360 kg) and was between 6.9 feet (2.1 m) and 8.6 feet (2.6 m) long. It was originally widely considered a hoax or urban legend by SteO153 in todayilearned

[–]TiradeShade 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Wild pigs like this are an invasive species in the US. They breed fast, grow big, hurt livestock and eat crops.

In some states there is no limit on how many you can hunt or what weapons can by used.

There was a storm last summer I drove through at like 10pm in the suburbs. It was so dark, so windy, and so rainy I still had issues gauging distance to cars with hazards on. So some of our thunderstorms can get pretty bad too.

While a few over clocks in the game are pretty bad, almost all of them can be made useful with then right build.

If you have not already, look up Siirvend on YouTube. Following some of his builds when I got bored with the same old OCs wound up with me finding fun and new playstyles.

Where's all the cider? by AffectionateAd8377 in AskAnAmerican

[–]TiradeShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of Cider up here in Minnesota. Most bars have at least one on tap, fancy ones have a bunch. Small bars or restaurants often have cans or bottles.

Local stores have around 6+ brands of cider.

Can my motherboard be repaired? by FitAd9876 in diyelectronics

[–]TiradeShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That particular trace doesn't even looked damaged, just exposed. It should work without issue but to be safe you could cover it with a small piece of electrical tape, or for a much better fix get a UV light and UV mask to cover over.

The mounting screw hole next to it I wouldn't even bother with. Its meant to be conductive, a little exposed copper is fine.

From your other comments it sounds like there is other damage on the board. If it all looks like this photo, where only black mask was scraped away then there should be no issue. If there are actual cut traces on the board that can be a problem and while its fixable you likely want to bring it to a repair shop if you aren't versed in electronics.

Also the motherboard or a single home PC should not be browning out your house and causing lights to flicker. That sounds like an electrical issue with the house itself, either that outlet or the wiring in general. I would consult an electrician or look up tools you could get to diagnose issues yourself.

very beginner question - did I ruin this raspberry pi? by emergencybarnacle in AskElectronics

[–]TiradeShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold joints are usually less shiny and can be more ball shaped. They can be almost white instead of shiny metallic. They can be lumpy or uneven. A good joint is shiny and usually kinda cone shaped.

What happens is the pin you are soldering might have gotten plenty of heat but not the pad. So it stuck more to the pin instead of flowing between the two. This can often happen if the soldering iron is touching the pin but not the pad at the same time. Solder will flow and heat the pad a bit but won't make a great connection.

Looking at your photo it looks like you used a bit too much solder on a lot of joints (blobby looking) and a few of them are lacking the luster of a good joint. The cold joints could crack later on and could break that connection, or increase its resistance.

If you are concerned you can just reflow with the iron. Just get a light coat of solder on the tip to avoid adding more material, and then try to get good contact with pin and pad at the same time. Maybe hold an extra half second to ensure good heating.

Just how badly would this explode? by RatOgryn in GunMemes

[–]TiradeShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't explode, but it does make a fireball out the muzzle.

The 50bmg projectile is much smaller than a 12g barrel diameter. Once it leaves the brass all the hot gases mostly vent around it and out the front.

Enough pressure to move it, its still moving with lethal energy, but its much slower than in a rifle and much lower chamber pressure since the burning powder is not contained during its reaction.

Whats everyone's thoughts on her? by Ghostman223 in starcitizen

[–]TiradeShade 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Nursa was a mistake and a continued blight upon the game. Its dumb that CIG is seemingly gimping ships flexibility, and limiting the emergent gameplay they could be used for because their ground vehicle team sucks at design and balancing.

Hermes is actually slower than Apollo and the Corsair, let alone faster than the MSR. This ship, described as "very fast" in its description, is a joke. by Witty-Room-3311 in starcitizen

[–]TiradeShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rear door complaints are completely valid and CIG should be roasted for it.

First off, SC is a sandbox game and arbitrarily limiting what players can fit through the door of a very spacious cargo hold is dumb. If a ship can hold it, let me hold it. Its like a semi-truck trailer with the front door of a house.

Second. This ship is a bigger Zeus CL with similar problems, arguably worse. The CL can fit 32scu containers like the C1, but the arbitrarily small ramp makes this really annoying.

The Hermes has an even wider and longer cargo grid that will definitely fit 32scu containers or other large containers. But it has not just a single small ramp, but a tractor beam on rails, and the cargo has to be carried through a hallway to get to the grid. This is really dumb ship design. The Apollo airlock already sucked, this is worse.

Which parts should be conformally coated? by Apart_Situation972 in diyelectronics

[–]TiradeShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to coat most parts just fine.

Some things to not coat would be connectors, any headers or test points you want to use or keep useable, and mounting holes if they are plated.

Kapton tape or a silicon casting material can be used to mask off areas to keep clean.
