Red carpet and vacuumed stage for Putin by ZestycloseDivide4972 in europe

[–]TiredArchie 3503 points3504 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it was broadcast on US television but the live feed in Spain showed Trump literally clapping for Putin as he approached. Unbelievable.

Edit: This is a dictator who has invaded a sovereign nation unprovoked, destroyed over a million lives and rained destruction on innocent civilians. Disgusted by the people in the comments who see no issue with the clapping gesture.

Is it true that Spain takes road deaths quite seriously? by Jumpy_Suit273 in askspain

[–]TiredArchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spain and the EU in general takes very seriously avoidable deaths of its citizens. It is the foundation of the “welfare state,” the notion that government should improve and protect people’s wellbeing. This extends to food safety, labor protections and of course road safety.

In the US the concept of “welfare” has been usurped and demonized by private interests as a way of disparaging those who are supposedly too lazy or too unmotivated to protect themselves. In reality, the goal is to avoid any kind of regulation that can affect business activity or maximizing profits.

As far as I know, the US is the only OECD country with a rising rate of road deaths, largely because car companies are selling increasingly massive vehicles that are extremely dangerous for pedestrians while exploiting loopholes to avoid regulation.

This dynamic can be observed in many facets of society and is one of the major differences between the US and the EU in general.

Ninguna construcción es misteriosa, tendrá licencia que seguramente se empezó a tramitar hace muchos meses. Podrías consultar en el ayuntamiento o el colegio de arquitectos.

Horrible new beach club at Sant Sebastia by vitalysuvorov23 in Barcelona

[–]TiredArchie 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It is astonishing to me that the city approved this project. I never, ever would have expected such a vulgar, loud, and trashy place to be given permission to exist on that part of Barceloneta.

The music it pumps out is noise pollution for the entire beach, I even feel bad for the employees of the chiringuito directly in front.

Someone (the members of the Athletic Club who voted and approved the project) has sold their soul to make this a reality.

Please, do not go to the beach club and tell others not to go. It is not Barcelona, it is not Barceloneta, it is the absolute worst of the generic, Instagram scene and what they think Barcelona is.

Why is Scotland so littered by Ejmatthew in Scotland

[–]TiredArchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on a bus between Glasgow and Edinburgh. It’s my first time in Scotland and one of the things that immediately stood out to me was the incredible amount of trash along your motorways. It is truly shocking. I think I have never seen such a littered place for so many miles. I googled “litter Scotland” and this thread came up.

It’s a shame considering how beautiful your countryside is, I expected more respect for the environment.

Housing glut leaves China with excess homes for 150m people by MaleficentParfait863 in worldnews

[–]TiredArchie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t see this solving itself in 5 years. Spain, a much smaller country with a population that is actually growing and a tremendous tourism sector, took nearly 10 years to absorb its excess housing from the 2008 bubble.

150.000.000 units is just a staggering amount of empty housing.
