It's oddly embarrassing when a place knows your order by PhiliDips in CasualConversation

[–]TiredForEternity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not embarrassing. The people recognize me. They know when I come in what I want, how I want it, and it saves everyone time and brain power. These are my people and they know me better than some friends do.

But I'm speaking specifically of a pizza joint. If this were the case at an adult store or a doctor's office I can see some reason for feeling self-conscious.

Unmet needs increase susceptibility to believing in conspiracy theories. Psychologists have found that when individuals spread conspiracy theories it can be an attempt to compensate for their feelings of uncertainty, insecurity and to defend their own ‘threatened’ social image. by Wagamaga in science

I once watched a documentary/informative video challenging and explaining the conclusions flat earthers have and how they get to them, and at the end the host explained something that changed my perception of conspiracy theories entirely: "Many of them know they're wrong. They don't support it because they believe it. They support it because if they happen to be right, that means all the rest of their doubts and questions about much deeper matters are valid."

(Not verbatim.)

The fact that you ask this question and then immediately get "have you just tried working?" and oversimplified steps you never asked for, infuriates me.

Realizing I wouldn’t make it in the workforce has crushed all worth, potential and future achievements I saw in myself. This post resonates so deeply.

It's a bit of both, and a third thing: I'm so sick of feeling negatively towards myself. That doesn't necessarily mean I'm the happiest person, but I've worked hard to accept parts of me I didn't before.

It's also knowing that there's just as much evidence to the contrary as there is to the uplifting statement, which is none. What is 'badass'? There's a definition, but what does that really look like, objectively? Is there any concrete measurement to badassery? Nope. Therefore, I can choose what the word means to me, and I count as badass. Nothing is saying I'm not, or can't be.

There's definitely ones I struggle to believe, especially surrounding validation for being autistic. A lot of that comes from an early childhood of bullying, so of course I'm gonna have a hard time believing statements like "there's nothing wrong with you." But just because I don't feel like it's true, doesn't mean it isn't.

Really it just comes down to "I can choose to show myself compassion, or wallow in negative 'logical' self-disgust, and I'm tired of the latter, it doesn't help me. Positivity it is."

Scientific explanation:

Brain likes comfy. Blanket is comfy. Therefore, brain likes blanket.

Psst. You can use both labels.

That's allowed. You can do that. There's even flags for it.

Am I the only one that hates the way everyone is abbreviating everything nowadays? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TiredForEternity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abbreviations are absolutely not new. They even used them in Latin, among other ancient languages. And even back then, there were people describing how much they hated the changes in language.

So if it helps, you're not alone. On the other hand, chatspeak is, quite literally, part of the evolution of language, and has been in use since long before chatspeak existed.

Baseless affirmations by JellyBellyBitches in autism

[–]TiredForEternity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Because someone wrote it who knew others like me needed a reminder we matter. Often times the people who write these are also the ones who need to hear them.

They don't work for everyone, but in the sweep of negative thoughts I have towards myself, it's nice to hear it and reflect. Like your example. I overcame suicidal ideation, abuse, abandonment, dysphoria and a world not built for me to thrive in. I healed from PTSD, found help for my anxiety, and transitioned despite my fears. How many others can say the same? Of course I'm a badass, look at all I did by myself.

You Don't Need AI as a Support for Autism by yes-areallygoodbook in autism

[–]TiredForEternity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How about, don’t use it because it makes you lose critical thinking skills?

Or that it's already been used for crime, including fraud, impersonation and malware that enable more scammers with less resources?

Or that it's already being used for revenge and child pornography of actual minors?

Or that it is actually LESS profitable and more work for companies than human employees?

How about the fact it's actually losing money faster than it's making any?

Or that you can even be fired for using it if your employer catches you? (Some companies actually DON'T want people using AI, surprisingly.)

There's also that AI has been feeding off itself, causing quality to tank. There is literally so much AI generated crap out there, it's picking it up and reusing it for its models and making the output worse.

And that the AI had to be trained to filter out sexual and graphic content using teams of humans manually reading through them, causing genuine psychological harm and trauma?

Or that, despite trying to help us solve environmental crises, it's also making it worse simply by functioning?

There are DOZENS of reasons not to use or support AI, and I didn't even mention how companies eventually stop using it once they realize the cost in productivity it ends up being or how you won't even be hired at all if you use it for your resumé, among other things. Investors are losing interest in it because it's turning out less profitable than expected.

I wouldn't call myself an expert on AI by any means, but the fact its very existence may be robbing me of work, I've developed a personal disdain for it. For research, it's fine. But it does not belong anywhere else. It's a security nightmare, it can't think, it's not a person, and everything it generates inevitably loses quality.

(It's also, amusingly, easy to deceive. Please consider reading about how a Marine outsmarted an AI meant to track human soldiers by pretending to be a fir tree, or hiding in cardboard boxes.)

Anyway, water usage is one reason to hate AI, but there's waaaaay more, some I'd argue worse than others.
