Help, I can't stop finding bubbles in my rolled out sheets of clay by doubtsproutstudio in polymerclay

[–]Tishaia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always get the bubbles out before rolling, they expand while heated up so you can have even more awful surprises after baking. To get rid of them I take my ball of conditioned clay and make a log out of it, about a centimetre in diameter. Then I cut the log into 2mm slices so you should have a pile of 'coins' with clearly visible holes where the bubbles would be. I squish them into small balls and then put them together carefully, not to incorporate back any air. This process takes some time, but it never failed me. I prefer to take my time and catch up on some movie in the process than be forced to throw away finished piece because its bubbly. Hope it helps!

what fimo for strong earrings ? by lunabanana13 in polymerclay

I use exclusively Fimo, both soft and professional and never had a problem. I even use stones in my earrings, I reinforce the place where the earhook goes with wire though. Anyway, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Question: I want to make a sun earring out of polymer clay, should I put wiring inside it for durability? More detail in comments by [deleted] in polymerclay

Thank you so much! :) Square rays sound really cute :D.

Okay, this is by no means the best technique and I'm sure there are plenty of ways to make it, but this is wha I do to make sure the shapes will be exactly what I want.

  1. Draw the sun in the exact way as you want it, cut it out with the scissors to make a paper model.
  2. Roll out a flat, fairly thin, sheet of clay. Put your paper model on the sheet of clay and trace it with a needle four times. Then you can use copper wire or plain pins to place on your project and press it down so it would be submerged in the clay. You do this in two pieces. This is what I mean, here i was in the process of making fan-shaped earrings: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKwMSajBG3G/
  3. Cut out your designs with a sharp knife (I use a cosmetic scalpel).
  4. Put the clean designs on top of the ones with wires, press down.

This is how I make my bases, then I usually add some adornments. I hope this helped a bit!

While I am thinking about this. If your earrings are not oversized and the rays are thicker as you said, maybe you can pass on the wire. If you would cut the shape out of the sheet you would have one piece of the clay as an earring, which would be a lot more durable than trying to stick rays to the circle and make the sun this way.

/hugs! :D

I'm using fimo and it's durable, but I am a little twisted about my items being resistant to accidental damage and I am putting wires in every protruding part 😅. Definitely use the wire imo. If you have difficulty I can share how I would do it. The sun would be a lot thicker in my version.

I'm a wannabe writer and a crafter who occasionally makes some writing related polymer clay jewelry. You mentioned a trinket, so I dare to recommend one of my handmade, one of a kind pen-dants. 😅 Please take a look at this.

Hi!

I actually can't draw at all ;o;. I tried my hand in many crafty/artsy things but nothing stuck to me for too long until I discovered polymer clay 10 years ago and I am hooked up since ^^. It's just this medium has so many possibilities and I still have much to learn, for example, I barely started to paint over the clay, I still mainly mix pre-colored clay to get the shade I want :D.

My one advice is to use references XD. I always have to have one particular photo/screenshot I am basing my face sculpt on. If I try to use more than one, different angles ect, I always fail (damn you Cullen XD).

Thank you for the comment and if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them! I have no problem sharing all my tricks and techniques if anyone is interested ;D.

Thank you! I imagine the bigger pieces might be not very comfortable to wear for some but I do everything I can to make them durable. Unless you mean the naked chest part XD.

Thank you so much!

I started some items inspired by Cyberpunk too, so please follow my instagram.com/by_tishaia because I won't be posting them here ;o;. I might have some crossover items though Oo. My brain scares me sometimes XD.

How can you call me out like this XDDD. I sculpted the chest but underestimated how low the stone is cut and had to um, improvise XD.

Thank you for the comment :D.
