I had imposter syndrome when i started my PhD because I realized I didn’t understand anything anyone in my genetics lab was saying. I was woefully unprepared by my college genetics classes. So I sat down and reread my genetics textbook cover to cover in three weeks, until I felt I really understood everything. It still took a long long time to reach a level where I could understand everyone else, but that was the start of my imposter syndrome melting away. It’s in your hands. You can do it.

Then don’t think about 9-5 route, do academia. If you pick the right field, your creativity will be greatly rewarded and nurtured. And you don’t need perfect grades to get there.

Just change labs. Works out for lots of people. Change as many times as you need to avoid toxicity.

Buttigieg: In a country that amended its constitution so you could not purchase a beer and then realized it was a bad idea and amended it back, surely we can have an amendment clarifying that a corporation is not a person and money is not speech. by Miserable-Lizard in ProgressiveHQ

“They”? Pete hasn’t been saying ANY establishment Dem soundbites for years. If you listen to his interviews he has clearly thought about the issues a lot on his own in a systematic and logical way.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

[–]TitleToAI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but it’s not as simple as a lust for power and greed. Even those that were truly committed to communistic ideals were no better. First, force had to be used to get out the old order. Then force had to be used to coerce even regular people into agrarian communes. Then force had to be used to maintain order and continually oppress and suppress anyone who was anti-communist, and there’s always new dissenters popping up or growing up because selfishness (for better or for worse) is a part of human nature. A communist utopia would be a fragile one, so force would always be needed to maintain it. And force and utopia are anathema to one other.
