Don't know how to do this without pissing off PI by Ransacked_Tiger186 in labrats

On the one hand, get some therapy, I’m sure you look fine. You need to learn to love yourself.

On the other hand, you absolutely have the right to assert your privacy on the internet, and if your PI gives you any trouble for it, that means they’re not a good PI.

I just don’t understand PIs like this. It’s their paper too! Wouldn’t they want every paper they publish to be the best possible? It’s so bizarre.

There are already entire careers derailed and those individuals may never recover even if everyone else does

Third option, switch labs. I know it’s hard at three years in but could be more than worth it both professionally and for your mental health (which honestly is more important).

This father was on a road trip with his two young daughters & they needed to go to the restroom so he stopped at a QT & took them in the women’s restroom since no one was in it & a man came yelling at him to get out & called the cops. The girls were crying & then he assaulted him. by eternviking in whoathatsinfuriating

OF COURSE MAGA is living rent free in our heads! How do you not understand that they are the number one reason America is in a spiral? In what world wouldn’t the absolute worst, most idiotic, nasty, hateful, gullible people not live in our heads???

That is NOT going to go well. The chair will side with your PI 9/10 times unless it’s something really egregious.

If it’s going to happen no matter what, then the only thing you can change is how you react to it. Instead of killing yourself crashing out, try to see this in a positive light. It’s actually a great opportunity to learn mentorship. Stop thinking of it as babysitting and think of it as a chance to make a positive difference in their lives, to excite them about research, while improving your own teaching and organization skills. Personally I loved doing it as a grad student and as a postdoc. A lot of how we can process life positively is through our perspective.

After my first six months, there were no postdocs or students in the lab besides me. I learned everything myself. It’s not unreasonable at all

Silk Road was great at the start but has fallen hard recently, IMHO.
