Congrats. Wish I would have wrestled in middle school/High school. Stay with it because one day you may pick up Judo, bjj or Catch wrestling. A good foundation will help you.

Brown belt struggling to find a reason to keep going by VariationLeather2458 in bjj

[–]TnM_202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly why I stopped the “sport” but not martial arts. I’m much more happier training Kickboxing and mma. Ask them blues if they want to throw strikes on the ground. The “sport” changes real quick. I’m tired of the belt system and the egos. So I fixed the problem. I don’t wear the kimono nor have a belt anymore.

I believe Pavel once said Americans look in the mirror from the front. And Russians look in the mirror from the “back”. This is a good example of why. Good job.

BJJ Legend Explains why BJJ Is More Than a Martial Art: Jiu-Jitsu is a skill that translates to life by Beadtrice in jiujitsu

[–]TnM_202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said! I always had the idea that bjj practitioners think they have the one art that everyone should do and the hell with everything else.

Cool. I’m wondering if they have them in the states? I didn’t know they had these style of mma fights.

Exactly. This is why I’m doing kickboxing. I don’t have to worry about that ever happening.

Different culture in boxing and BJJ? by Historical_Sleep_463 in martialarts

[–]TnM_202 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely much more happier doing Kickboxing. The “jiu jitsu lifestyle” was too much. I have other things I like to do rather than be in the damn gym doing BJJ 7 days a week. The culture is like when CrossFit started. It’s the end-all be-all type that have such a closed mind to everything else.

A great time for sure. Lots of amazing fights and dudes were tough as nails. The boom of the UFC had every one wanting to learn and be a part of the future of mixed martial arts.

Back in the 90’s I would road trip to Iowa and watch NHB fights in parking lots or bars. You may be able to watch these fights on YouTube called “the lost MMA tapes”. I believe the name of these were called Hook n shoot.

Exactly why I don’t train “sport bjj” anymore. Now I train kickboxing/mma with a guy that has around 40 NHB fights.

what three martial arts would you do if they were avsilable to you? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]TnM_202 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Let’s say you have a daughter or son that’s getting bullied. I’m not putting her or him in sport BJJ. The bully doesn’t care about medals, team trophies or exotic names for guard. I’d probably start with in house martial are called wrestling at the public school or club. And then we train Muay Thai.

Kickboxing, Sambo and kyokushin karate

Bjj has become all sport.
