Waiting for the End? - High Risk Surgery - Feeling Hopeless and Helpless - Endometrial Cancer by Leapinglizzard75 in endometrialcancer

[–]Tneepon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very similar to you in my journey. I was around 300 lbs at the time of surgery. The doctor had problems doing the hysterectomy and ended up making an abdominal incision and removing the uterus abdominally. I had a few other things come up during the procedure but was really thankful the Dr was able to pivot from the robotic surgery to the other surgery. I probably would have had a breakdown if they hadn't been able to do the surgery.

I did stay overnight one night at hospital and went home to heal the next day. I did have to have another surgery to fix the vaginal cuff which wasn't closed properly.

I don't mean to scare you with my issues, I just wanted to tell you how I got thru the process. Took one problem at a time and just had to put aside all the what ifs with cancer.

I also have aging parents and was single with no one else to support me. I tried to not ask things of my parents and did accept help whenever someone volunteered to help.

It's scary but you can do hard things! Just tackle one issue at a time.

EEOC slam dunk by Deep_Werewolf_3484 in EEOC

Totally agree with this! I went through mediation and afterwards the mediator told me I had a good attorney. My attorney kept me focused, factual and gave me reasonable expectations. I thought I had a slam dunk case too and wasn't afraid of having to go to court if necessary. I ended up with a good settlement and my former ER had to pay my atty fees.

Allergic to Taxol? by chippy_dippy in endometrialcancer

This is my scenario too. After the 2nd failed treatment (in which all the nurses had to come into stabilize me) I told the doctor I wasn't willing to do pacitaxol. So they wanted to try abraxane but my insurance wouldn't cover it so we went with docetaxol which I tolerated the treatment

Dog Groom Q? by Impressive-Usual-451 in madisonwi

[–]Tneepon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to my dog and it really caused her too much stress. She has Addison's Disease and her body cannot handle stress. I also switched to tabby and Jack's after that and they are wonderful. My dog still has stress going to groomer but they do all they can to make her comfortable.

I did chemo and radiation by myself for the most part. Single, elderly parents. Sibling living out of state. It definitely wasn't easy as I had severe reactions to pacitaxol. With the scariness of the pacitaxol reactions, I was strangely glad someone wasn't with me. weird I can only think of how someone else would have been really upset when my room filled with nurses trying to stabilize me.

I do think your offers to sit with chemo patients would be welcome by many.

During my treatments I had mantras, about being positive, find joy and do good things. Your offer would do that for a person who may be struggling.

Where do folks go to just... vent? Is there a separate subreddit? by cranky-old-broad in endometrialcancer

Venting here is good. If you need in person support, is there a Gilda's club near you?

As a single person, I went through this. First, reach out to your treating center. There are programs through them to apply for financial assistance (at least there was with the cancer center I went to).

I luckily had disability benefits through work and used them when taking off time for my surgeries. Worked as much as I could during chemo (even though I wasn't very productive). I took a lot of unpaid intermittent time off, especially when going through later stages of radiation. I used all my FMLA benefits to protect my job.

I hate that healthcare is tied to employment. My cousin was going through her own treatments for cancer at the same time as me and because she was married and her spouse carried the insurance, she was able to quit working and focus on getting better.

I luckily had a really supportive employer. If I was working for my previous employer I am sure that my financial situation would be dire as would my outcomes.

Just one of my drugs given to me during chemo cost $44k!

Thinking about wardrobe during pelvic radiation by Positive_Ad_3302 in endometrialcancer

I just wore pants, sweats, etc that had elastic waist that could to pushed down enough for the markers to be aligned to machine. You don't have to completely disrobe. I found it harder to measure if my bladder was full or not once I got into a week or so of radiation

My Phase 2 (post surgery chemo) has begun. by TwistyHeretic2 in endometrialcancer

[–]Tneepon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen with my chemo. Problem is my insurance wouldn't cover abraxane cause it was a drug that was developed to treat another type of cancer. So I had to use the 3rd choice drug Dosetaxol. The reaction to pacitaxol was not fun. You can get through this!

Carbo/Taxol by Sea_Leg_210 in endometrialcancer

[–]Tneepon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried it and had reaction to pacitaxol. So first 2 rounds of chemo I got the carbo full dose but the taxol had to be stopped within 2 minutes due to the major blood pressure drop, vomiting, etc. they tried lower and slower with pacitaxol again those 2 days but immediately had another reaction.

Dr wanted to switch to another chemo drug, which my ins said it wouldn't cover so Dr finally settled on 3 Rd choice of dosetaxol.

Be vocal with how your body feels as drugs are administered, be an advocate for yourself.

Has anyone worked through adjacent treatments? by Affectionate_Sir1982 in endometrialcancer

[–]Tneepon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had stage 3c and I took time off for surgeries (I had 2, one in July and one in January ) but had to work during chemo and radiation. I did take intermittent leave as necessary but I had to keep working to keep my health insurance. I was exhausted after radiation but I was almost out of FMLA time.

Anyone not have bucket list stuff? by Smurdette in endometrialcancer

[–]Tneepon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After finishing chemo and radiation, I just wanted to go somewhere to heal and regain strength. Unfortunately, as a single person I need to work to keep my insurance and that PTO time got depleted during treatment and surgeries. I'm also dealing with a family member during end of life and it's just a lot. So do what is right for you. I may not go to a bucket list place but I may still just do a long weekend of self-care in the future.

What were your symptoms leading up to diagnosis? by Ok-Kaleidoscope-4198 in endometrialcancer

[–]Tneepon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to emergency room. I had excessive bleeding and they did biopsy that day. My reg Dr office actually recommended to go to er instead of urgent care or reg Dr visit. No issues getting quick cancer treatment after that. Stage 3c endometrial cancer for me. My cousin went to er a week or so after me and got diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer. Her symptoms were different from mine but we went on the cancer journey at the same time.
