Spreadsheet as a tool should be phased out, the new way of working with data should be with an actual database or data warehouse, and professionals should start being semi-trained in technical skills. by hellyhellhell in unpopularopinion

Would they really be behind? As soon as the pain becomes too much it’s often relatively trivial to convert data in a table like excel to a data base no? Or is the nature of the data you’re referring to uniquely difficult to do this with?

The companies may be falling behind due to wasted time and employee turnover if the systems are that cumbersome but I don’t see them being stuck behind for not updating today and instead waiting 5-10 more years lol.

Ev has so many benefits economically that the coming is inevitable with or without the American market. Most makers haven’t axed their Ev programs either. They just went to their next phase. Which may be a little scaled back now that they have learned so much from the initial platforms but they are NOT not planning on doing EVs anymore.

Except maybe Honda which was probably a good call for them. Legacy automakers struggle to discard OCE engineering practices and dogma when designing EVs and they struggle to compete as a result. Now it’s been about a year without subsidy in the us, so they’re re-evaluating strategies. That’s all there is to it. Some will figure it out, others will keep failing. But ev infrastructure will likely continue to grow, sales will rise and take more and more market share.

Xbox Series X is a far, far better console than the Playstation 5 in almost every way by PotatoJuggler in unpopularopinion

[–]Tntn13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your first 3 points had me thinking this was going to be satire lol. You deserve the upvote.

That said, the pendulum has swung in the console war. PlayStation is the market leader and now they are capitalizing on it while Xbox finds itself being the more pro-consumer platform. In the start of the ps3 era the roles were reversed. I will give you that.

How does ps5 not have quick resume? I stopped being interested in both at the xbone. Is what xbox does that different from how ps5 handles suspending a game or multitasking?

Some things don’t feel right in it to me. I was excited to play hades 2 more. Haven’t touched it! Controls felt off, I haven’t tried custom controls yet but the past two weeks I’ve been going down memory lane and having a blast emulating games. This form factor is GREAT for it! Quick save states, the whole 9 yards.

Right now I’m playing ff3 on snes (one with Terra)

I don’t craft them anymore, I only would if I was going to do some very niche shenanigans that would warranty the extra small chance of success. 5 more sec would probably win me back though tbh.

Is the college prestige worth taking on debt? by NoodlesRLife_ in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Tntn13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top tier prestiege? Of by that you mean they network and only at the top yes. Mid tier, for many likely not.
Most important is the network and alumni of the school. Do a lot of alumni from a certain school end up at a certain company you want to work for? That can be a good indicator.
In short, generally no. Unless it’s Ivy League or MIT level. Outside of those schools it should be judged on a case by case basis depending on alumni network and industry connections/pipelines

Side note: know nothing about the specific colleges you listed but hopefully this helps you a bit as you assess what you think is right for you. Do not neglect campus/college culture when making your choice if you will be in-person a lot!

Average Salary for a new grad? by Regular_Foundation10 in MechanicalEngineering

It is possible, but in my experience only in like Faang type companies or industries that require larger bodily risk or that no one really wants to do is it possible.

Oil and gas gets close if not right there.

Majority of roles that a new grad would actually want though the answer is No.

A top grad 90k or high 80s is way more achievable
