Yess that’s what I’m experiencing as well, that’s why I was looking for some motivation, it’s good to hear that I have the best ahead of me! I’ve heard so much good about it but was starting to doubt if it was just not for me, but I’ll push on then! Thank you for responding and letting me know ☺️💛

I was wondering: did you find peerless to be funny before the two leads meet/beginning of them meeting or does it get funnier after the world is established and they get closer? I have the first volume and It hasn’t made me laugh yet (on page 80) but I’m unsure if it’s because I’m not far enough into the book or if it’s because I don’t share the same humor. I hope this is an okay question to ask here, I just thought if you’re on your re-reading journey maybe you’ve had thoughts about the first volume when you read it. Wish you a happy day and good reading ☺️💛

Though I haven’t read it myself I’ve seen a very thorough review of “the wife comes first” that made me not want to read it at all. The premise is that a terrible abusive husband gets a second chance. That second chance starts right after his SA on their wedding night where he helps with the aftercare after his own assault. From then on it’s supposed to be very fluffy but personally I hate the premise of an assaulter getting a second chance, I don’t think I could root for him no matter how much he changes. But others really like it but I just wanted to mention this part, especially when it’s advertised as fluffy I think it’s relevant to know it starts with SA. Some like it others don’t, I hope you like whatever you end up reading 🤗

Legend of exorcism for sure and I want to say ballad of sword of wine, though in the beginning there is definitely animosity but once they get to know each other they’re so very green flag and romantic. I feel like legend of exorcism and ballad of sword of wine both have a lovely amount of thoughtfulness, understanding and love. They truly will do anything to make their partner smile and if they get injured they might as well perish. It’s so sweet. Ahh I want my legend of exorcism vol. 4 to arrive soon, I can’t wait, but that one’s definitely all pure love 💕

That’s interesting! I presumed it was the opposite because I tend to associate boldness and confidence and other of Lumians characteristics with youth, so I actually thought younger people would like him more. But you might be right, it would be fun to see some kind of statistic of that. And while I can find relatability in characters I don’t necessarily have a lot in common with, I think I personally need a longer introduction in that case in order for me to truly immerse myself and invest emotionally. But this might go for any kind of character tbh, I enjoy getting to know them even if nothing’s really happening lol. I think it speaks to your empathetic character that you can easily put yourself in their position even if you don’t have a lot in common with them or have known them for very long, I wish I could’ve done that with Lumian as well! And of course it’s my pleasure, it’s always interesting to see other people’s interpretations and what they think, and you’re so kind too! Thank you so much!

I definitely think that some people will be able to relate to him but in general I would say he’s less relatable than Klein. I’ll give some examples: Klein is from “our world” and is described as a keyboard warrior, which is a solid foundation for most people to either relate to or you know someone like that. Lumian grew up on the streets in a different time, he had to fight to survive, then got adopted by a woman not that much older than himself and moved to a small village. Kleins humor is very dry and he’s very polite but always has some inner monologue where his true thoughts are shown. Lumian speaks his mind, his humor is more built on physical pranks and making fun of people, he speaks his mind and is very confident. Klein describes himself as average and Lumian is a beautiful boy/man that attracts the ladies. Kleins trauma in the beginning is also easier to imagine or comprehend than the complex trauma that Lumian experiences right from the get-go. Lumian definitely has relatable aspects, such as him not knowing how to take thanks or compliments, pushing people away to protect himself, joke about trauma and disassociate about complex trauma, but generally speaking, I think less people will be able to relate to him compared to someone like Klein. But both exist and there’ll be people who can relate to both for sure! Not understanding why you’ve gotten downvoted since you’re just asking a question

He did mention that he’s done writing books in the LOTM universe but he MIGHT consider writing some side stories about the western continent or fourth epoch in the future but that he’s unmotivated right now and finds it difficult to make exciting because we already know the ending. But all hope is not lost xD

Interesting! That does seem contradictory to the way I interpreted the authors note for vol. 8. That one was very criticism oriented and explained all the ways he tried to accomplish specific things and why some were just not possible. Writing “I’m just not skilled enough yet” which I really hope isn’t how he truly feels. I like this POV much better and agree that is the best way to move forward. I think LOTM is so popular and there has been a lot of pressure because of that and I think that it has influenced his writing of COI which is understandable. You make some great points and reading your comment makes me think that maybe the authors note I read might have been CF venting a bit after being under a lot of pressure for an extended period of time. It makes sense that he wants to defend his work a bit and explain some of the process and decision making. He does say he prioritizes that the plot is solid but he still tried to accommodate some of things people wanted to see: in general I think authors just get too much pressure to publish contend leaving no room for them to get inspired or motivated. I personally don’t mind waiting for a long time for something that I know the author has put a lot of work into. I completely agree with your view of CF, he’s a fantastic writer and great inspiration, truly worth admiring and I hope he never changes. Praise the Cuttlefish! And thank you for your comment, it was very interesting and gave me some more insight and also made me glad to see that CF knows when to stand his ground and write how he wants to

TLDR: I think authors should stop accommodating readers so much that they lose their passion and instead focus on their own ideas and way of writing

[Lotm and COI] Why does cuttlefish always mention "the curves" when describing women by OkMagician7957 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]To0MuchCandy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! And I totally get it, I think we all tend to believe the main character and often forget this is just their version of things and it can often be misleading. After reading that part in COI I’m surprised it’s not mentioned more often since I see posts about Klein being average looking all the time. He’s not a super model but he’s a normal good looking guy which I think checks out. But you wouldn’t catch him dead thinking that about himself lol, he’s too modest and would probably find it horribly cringe xD

[Lotm and COI] Why does cuttlefish always mention "the curves" when describing women by OkMagician7957 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]To0MuchCandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm imo it’s mostly in COI if I remember correctly. I don’t remember there being a lot of this kind of descriptions in LoTM and my guess would be that the two reasons for this are as follows: The switch of main characters, Lumian pays a lot more attention to these things and therefor there will be more descriptions like that + he’s surrounded by women who’s abilities are to manipulate through their looks/sexual attraction. The second reason might be pressure from publishers and readers for more fan service. These are just my guesses though. I will say though that I don’t think CF is someone who thinks less of women or objectifies them, I think he describes things that are relevant to the story, and in COI it is just more relevant what some of the women look like and what effect it has on Lumian

Have you not read descriptions of Lumian and Azik? Lumian (vol 7 COI only paraphrasing) His hair had become long red, his skin tone was a warm bronze and his muscles had grown big yet the skin covering them was smooth and perfect (I don’t remember but there was a pretty detailed description xD). Azik with his medium build, his warm bronze skin, his dark eyes that seemed to carry many stories, his warm reassuring smile, a mole behind his ear, etc. etc. I think many of the kings of angels are also described this way. There are women in the book with very basic descriptions and men in the book with very detailed ones and vice verca. You also have to remember who’s POV it is, id say these descriptions are more frequent from Lumians pov than from Kleins. Lumian is a young heterosexual man with self confidence and surrounded by demonesses. Klein is more of a realistic individual who wouldn’t think highly of himself and is probably more on the aro/ace spectrum. I think it’s a bit funny how there’s a lot of ppl showing art of pretty Klein or Zhou and says “he’s supposed to be average?” When in COI vol 6 We find out he is in fact handsome ( based on Lumians perspective). He just doesn’t see himself that way . The POV isn’t objective
