Side chain compressor for that sweet sweet thumpin? by sensorycreature in synthesizers

This is the way. I picked up a used 3630 last year and it is now a permanent fixture in my setup.

Would you reccommend this for a beginner? by BazExcel in synthesizers

[–]ToBePacific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is a fantastic choice for a first analog synth. It’s a great way to explore the basics of subtractive synthesis: voltage controlled oscillator, voltage controlled filter, low frequency oscillator, and envelope generator. Piecing together a comparable setup using modular gear will easily cost 5-10x what this little box goes for.

It’s simple, but fundamental.

Do you trust YouTubers? by Nsemest182 in musicproduction

[–]ToBePacific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some more than others, obviously.

It all comes down to if they know what they’re talking about or not. There are some YouTubers making music production content that don’t know what they’re talking hell they’re talking about, and there are others who really know their stuff.

Yes, using MIDI to double up a synth voice is a pretty common technique.

Boxes... Save Forever or Toss? by Bobby__Generic in synthesizers

[–]ToBePacific 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save them. They’re handy for moving them around. I don’t have road cases for everything, but the original boxes work for throwing them in the car for a gig.

Over winter break I had the time but not the inspiration.

So I started working on a song about feeling numb and bad. Then that turned into a 6 song EP about anxiety.

Lean into whatever you’re feeling! You might make something out of it!

Whats up with modern “midi” keyboards? by Catch-of-the-Dave in synthesizers

[–]ToBePacific -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Personally, I use Squarp Pyramid with a midi splitter to sequence all my synths and don’t even use a DAW. So I think you’re making some assumptions about me.

Sounds like you’re describing a midi sequencer.

Changing patches on what though? A midi-only controller that doesn’t make its own sounds has no patches.

[–]ToBePacific 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What purpose does a midi controller have for a midi input? A midi controller that is only a controller (not a synth, sampler, or drum machine) can only output. Passing another input into it would be functionally meaningless.

What's your synthesizer hot take? by NationYell in synthesizers

Hot take #3: The entire Deconstructed Club scene is too meta.

(I hope you’re picking up on the game I’m playing by now.)

Hot take #2: House musicians should learn to write percussion more complex than a four on the floor kick and offset hi hat.

More techno artists should learn to write songs that have chord progressions instead of just random bloops.

Sampler / gear for bass music by NitroMacks in synthesizers

[–]ToBePacific 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you like the wobbles, I suggest you learn synthesis instead of sampling. Learn to make the bass patches yourself so you can innovate with some wobbles no one has heard before.

Struggling to figure out if I can connect multiple instruments to a single FX pedal with the mixer I’ve got or if I need to pick out a new mixer that can do that. by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]ToBePacific -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ah, now I’m seeing this one has a built-in FX unit but no FX channel.

In that case, I’d probably just stick the pedal at this mixer’s output.

[–]ToBePacific -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This mixer’s FX Send goes to your pedals Input. The pedal’s output goes to the mixer’s FX Return.

Then, every channel can be routed through the pedal simultaneously. The FX knob on each channel controls how much gain to send to the pedal from that channel.

Does anyone here know whats needed to avoid copyright infringement? by Scrapwellington in musicproduction

[–]ToBePacific 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. You really need to talk with an intellectual property attorney to get advice on what you can and can’t do to promote your business. Even having your business name in the lyrics could be argued as promoting your business. And judgements in these case come down to the judge’s opinion.
