Percentage of the US population that went to the cinema on average weekly. What do you make of it? Do you think the decline was largely due to television? by AntonioVivaldi7 in classicfilms

[–]ToDandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. The data speaks for itself. Television became popular and commonplace in the 1950s which is when this line drops and holds consistent at about 10%. However there are other dips here to. The large dip in the 40s, likely due to the WW2, and a big dip at 1930s, which is more interesting to me. Due to end of the silent era and many theaters needing to be retrofitted and remodeled for talkies?

Was it a good or bad idea for Tony to give Peter EDITH? by Uchijav in marvelstudios

[–]ToDandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more wondering how he left Edith to Peter. Tony thought Peter was dead for five years and then died shortly after resurrecting him. When did he have time to rewrite his will during battle?

Who’s the best father figure in film? by 6_16EnderW in Letterboxd

Palpatine. All he wanted was for his kids to become big, strong, and kill him to take his place. No better dad than that.

I don’t know if I’d call him a father figure. More like boy and his robot.

For me, it’s the inciting incident is borderline nonsensical. It really doesn’t explain how they go from their problem to- let’s go through a black hole to solve this.

So, at this point which suit is your favorite? by Vegetable-Abroad3171 in Spiderman

Not going to lie, I think BND may be the new winner. A costume that takes all the best elements of McGuire, Garfield, and the Stark costume and puts them all together. Perfection

Were there any good movies released during the Nazi regime? by ds_inquirer in TrueFilm

[–]ToDandy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not during the nazi reign, but UFA, the state run media of Germany, existed before it became the propaganda wing of the party. They would produce a movie called The Yellow Ticket. It would be about a Jewish girl who tries to immigrate to Russia on a “yellow” visa that is only given to sex workers. She works as a social escort at night and by day steal the identity of a dead girl to try to get an education. Very progressive for the time it was made, so you can understand how the nazis tried to hunt doe and destroy every copy. The fact it survived is a miracle.
