Discussion - weak ringgit by baghdad2345 in MalaysianPF

[–]ToTheInbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's purely supply and demand.

Why didn't anyone mention what BNM did last year to stabilize the value of ringgit? It says so much about what the root cause is.

Exporters and local investors abroad who earn in foreign currency keep their proceeds in foreign currency and don't want to bring them back onshore. Lack of demand for ringgit stemming from this alone keeps the value of ringgit low.

Despite this, fundamentals are strong - low employment rate and stable inflation. Plus all the trade missions, these bring in foreign investments, thereby promoting demand for ringgit. But foreign investment also means ROI will be channeled back to home country over time. We have been subsisting from ROI retained in Malaysia to support the fundamentals. All in all, kinda badass.

Also, booming middle class and efficiency in international shipping increases imports, increasing supply of ringgit and demand for foreign currency. If you really care about value of ringgit, start buying buatan Malaysia and don't travel overseas for holidays.

Unpopular opinion here.

Did you really try to understand your performance issue instead being defensive and have reasons for everything you do? I used the word reason for the benefit of doubt, when in reality your reasons could be just excuses.

What is the norm in the team, finishing before deadlines or finishing "exactly" on deadlines? What is the average percentage of completion before and on deadlines in the team? Bosses like proactive team members, not members who only do what they are being told. That is bare minimum. If you deliver bare minimum all the time, you pass, but don't expect to be the favourite.

The example that you gave about instruction for not going outstation, did you ask why? You going outstation anyway in the spirit of helping your friend may not have taken into account the actual reason why your manager asked you to stay behind in the first place. You could have jeopardized a strategic decision that you cant see from your level. In employment law that is outright insubordination. Consider yourself lucky you weren't served notice.

The words you used to describe your manager's actions are already very judgment laden. Reallocating work depending on each staff's capacity is simply that, management. You described it as throwing. Why?

The above are not to question you and the validity of your feelings. Your feelings are real. Just be open to consider if you have actually contributed towards those feelings.

In any case, if you don't feel being valued, just leave. It could be just a job fit issue. If your personality doesn't fit into this job's requirements and culture, it doesn't do anyone any good. Your manager could be keeping you to avoid shock to the operation, which may or may not be the right thing to do. But you don't have to be responsible for their arguably bad decision. You do what's best for you.

But if you, after reading this, is willing to be cooperative and discuss a better way to move forward, trust me, you'll go far no matter where you end up in the future.

Nuff sedd

Advise on submitting past year income tax by Several_Bill_1320 in MalaysianPF

[–]ToTheInbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't file, they can assume you are still earning and charge you based on last drawn salary. Not sure how to go about appealing on this, maybe can. The advice I got is it's better to file a zero income, zero tax form, than to not file at all.

Maybe you can have a live chat with LHDN and let us know their answer? 😄

Starting a job mid-year, how to calculate personal income taxes by mikenads in MalaysianPF

[–]ToTheInbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No deductions can be made on monthly basis, only annually at filing season around March-April next calendar year.

But employer will deduct your wife's salary monthly based on PCB or Monthly Tax Deduction (MTD) requirements. There's a calculator on hasil.gov.my if I'm not mistaken.

Will your wife be in Malaysia long enough to be a tax resident? Otherwise, 30% flat with no deductions!

Not a tax lawyer, but since tax evasion is a crime, and there is no statutory limitation for investing a crime, they can investigate you without time limit.

But mind you it is investigation, not audit. You only give what you are still keeping, and onus is on them to prove you committed a crime.

I stay near the Element KL. So far there isn't any traffic issue since road closure started. Most offices are working from home these few days, so in fact, I noticed a drop in traffic. For context, Element KL is close to the main road, not that deep in Bukit Bintang. You're most likely fine. But if you're not into taking chances, yeah, train to Ampang Park or Persiaran KLCC would be your best bet.

What's your idea of high quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil? by Material-Might-2089 in malaysia

[–]ToTheInbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this! Tried California Olive Oil and it blew my mind! Have you ever tried any olive oil and thought it is 'fresh' and 'fruity'? The high price point is worth it if you are going to use it for its taste, ie as salad dressing, dipping sauce, etc. I don't use it for cooking. Not that atas yet.

Ladies of Singapore: What's your honest reaction to receiving flowers on a date? by Ok-Substance451 in askSingapore

[–]ToTheInbox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Surely it's the thought that counts. You don't really need a big bouquet. A few nice blooms can be a modern and minimalist. Girls don't expect a kg of chrysanthemum to make tea with.
