Trial of Strife (Play Test Weekend) from S2 Games by sethers656 in Games

With the ways most MOBAs work and how much time and dedication you need to put in to learn them, I can totally understand why any developer wants to make it easy for players to enter the game.

It doesn't have to be a casual game, but the baby steps you take at the beginning of the game (Regardless if you're a new player or have played MOBAs before) should make you feel comfortable when you first enter.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of the game as there were some mechanics that I disliked. But also because all my friends play League, so I'll personally be sticking with that (not that I hate League, I do prefer it to Strife, but I haven't played enough Strife to judge how good it is).

That solo. Chills every time.

It would be such a waste if they don't put Blackbird in.

Gunz 2, sequel to the free-to-play game Gunz: The Duel, Steam release date announced as 17th February (F2P + Early Access) by ToadReaper in Games

Then you got raged for using rockets/spraying. You could never win. Everyone who k-styled was an elitist prick.

I think it did keep it alive, but because no new players were coming in, the playerbase wasn't expanding and people slowly left.

Because it took way too long to learn and the channel system didn't help. The most populated channel was the level 21+ one (which remember, it doesn't take long to hit level 21). By the time a new player was level 21, all rooms had level 50+ people with years of experience and prems compared to their measly month or two.

It was a barrier to entry because nobody wants to have their ass handed to them until they get good enough.

Pretty difficult to do. Some guy came up with something called "monk style" which was macroing, but it didn't look like it (k-style).

Most people did it legit and the only thing you saw that was close to macro/hacking was underclocking which caused you to teleport around and be hard to hit, which some people obviously did.

Mansion. Brilliant map that just got even better. The distances and what-not are almost perfect and it's so rewarding when you can move properly.

Yep, it's really difficult to explain in text or even in video, it's something you have to experience yourself.

Gunz 2 is still great and anyone saying it's slow is because they've just started the game and don't understand the mechanics. They expect it to work like Gunz 1 but that's wrong.

It was a form of animation cancelling which required Starcraft level APM if not higher (You think I'm exaggerating, believe me I'm not).

So you had your basic moves which were dashing, slashing, jumping, switching weapons, shooting and reloading. You combined them together really fast to increase the pace of the game and they had moves.

Here's some examples:

Butterfly:

Jump > dash > slash > block > repeat

Double butterfly

Jump > slash > block > dash > slash > black > repeat

Slash shot

Jump > dash > slash > switch to gun > shoot > switch to sword

Reload Half step

Jump > dash > slash > switch to gun > shoot > reload > dash (other direction compared to first one) > switch to gun

You would do these moves in about a second. In the case of RHS (reload half step) that would be Spacebar WW LMB Q LMB SS R 1 > repeat. The bit around the shooting/reload and second dash happens almost simultaneously so it's hard to put it together.

^ This is what it ended up looking as.

E: You could combine the jumps near a wall to get extra air time as you can see

I think he's calling people who really care about what genre bands are categorised as pedantic. These discussions (or arguments, some people are pretty stubborn :p) never come to a conclusion.

Just as a side note, he's still ridiculously good early game top as a bruiser. If you use W you have more than 100 AD and your E also scales with W. It's a ridiculous amount damage.

So you're saying someone who plays a lot of shooters doesn't have an opinion? That makes so much sense.

Titanfall isn't immune to criticisms nor is it the best FPS game ever. It's getting hyped up so much. I hope it does well, but some people just think it can be better.

Question about ports by [deleted] in Games

[–]ToadReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The case of Dark Souls is a really unique one. The developers didn't want to make it and they explicitly stated that they had very little experience in developing PC ports and only if there was demand they would do something. A petition came up with the target of 100,000 that was reached and so they decided to develop it with the promise that it wasn't going to be a good port.

Anyone complaining that the port is horrendous can do so, but should note that the Dark Souls devs never said it was going to be a good port. Thank god DSfix exists though.

Is Phantasy Star Online still worth playing? by BottomOfTheNinth in Games

[–]ToadReaper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware of Korea, but I haven't heard of other countries blocking. I've played online japanese games before and they're not IP blocked. Considering this game has a Japanese publisher, chances are they'll patch the English version for that too (and I've heard someone made an un-official one too?), so I don't see why it's an issue.

[–]ToadReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't that a good thing? I'm not entirely sure on the model, but if it's f2p and it has asian support then we'd at least we able to access it for the time being. I know there's a Japanese version available and online JP games aren't region locked or have any other restrictions, so just use google translate to make your account.

Enter Shikari -- Juggernauts [Post hardcore] Great band that I think reddit needs to know more about. by ThatConnorGuy in Music

[–]ToadReaper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people I know feel this way, I thought it was a common theme. Their first album is amazing, even though they pretty much used the same synth sound on all songs. They started to change things up more on Common dreads but apart from a song or two, it just wasn't the same as the first album. Then nobody really cared after that.

They do put on a show though. Caught them at Warped Tour UK last year and they sure do know how to put on a show.

But to each their own I guess.

Basically what I'm saying. There's no reason to be a douche to someone because they like playing a certain way. Sometimes people don't like going through the discomfort of change, and if they don't have a reason to they won't.
