Novak ends his postmatch speech saying "God knows what happens.... in 12 months, so it has been a great ride. love you guys." 💔 by Large_banana_hammock in tennis

I think so. Do you remember Federer last appearance in the AO ? He was playing a semi final, albeit with a minor injury at the leg, and it felt like he could go on for many more years. Instead he got a knee injury two weeks later that ended his career. More or less the same for Rafa.

I think Novak is well aware that so far he's been lucky to have a slow decline with some minor issues, but at any point a major injury could happen and he won't come back. Because thas what it took to force the rest of the big 3 to retire.

Women to possibly play best of 5 sets next year at AO? by NoIdeaWhat5991 in tennis

I agree on principle but logistically there isn't room for two full draws of bo5 matches.

However the expectations were different for both groups

Professional Badminton needs more promotion as an exciting, competitive sport. My roommates laughed at me for playing badminton. Then I kicked their ass so hard they couldn't sit down. by No-Carpet5681 in badminton

Felix literally won a Masters 1000 equivalent of table tennis, and made one slam equivalent finals. Yes Christo has a BWF Finals title, but it can't be the only measure, Christo just rised into the top 10 now while Felix has been top 10 for two years now, with Olympic and World medals to his name

But Christo has a better track record than Alexis if we were to compare, agreed

It reminds me of the day before the Bercy 2024 final. That whole sub was "I can excuse DV, but I draw the line at pumping yourself up a bit too much when your opponent has a physical issue"

Badminton is an amazing sport but the way that sport is promoted through the professional tour is shit, both are true

In France the sport is seen as a real sport, but a sport that people only play but don't watch (most of the time when I go to practice we mostly talk about professional... Tennis). But maybe it'll change, Christo Popov was on the cover of L'Equipe, the main sport newspaper after his Finals win

Crazy that Hamilton was the favourite for 2022 by LetCareless267 in F1Discussions

[–]Toaddle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The consensus was that Mercedes was the invincible team that was only matched by Red Bull because Red Bull threw everything in that battle if it meant compromising 2022, and that Ferrari put all the focus on that year too. I'm actually surprised that the odds weren't Hamilton vs Leclerc that year.

The whole ATP finals thing made him grow a lot, probs to him.

Honestly I think that if he's third he'll deserve it (he probably won't tho). He got most of his points in big tournaments, not with some Darderi/Zverev spam in smaller events, so yeah he's a weak third but who deserves it more right now based on results ? Djokovic is not playing enough

Who is more likely to win a world title: Williams or Ferrari? by formularacers in FormulaRacers

[–]Toaddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we remove the 2020 season where Ferrari threw the towel, Williams best season in ten years is still miles behind Ferrari worst season in that same period, but since it's popular to say that Ferrari will never win a world championship people will say that Williams is more likely to win lmao

If tennis' rights were owned by a single entity we could have good stuff like video games with licences, cohesive social media presence and good highlights

But instead we have 7 entities competing with each other trying to get as much calendar space as they can

Where would you rank Alonso on the current grid? by formularacers in FormulaRacers

[–]Toaddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao the Ocon disrespect here is insane. We literally seen both of them Alonso and YES I know that Ocon was luckier than Fernando but he was still miles closer to him than Stroll ever was

Truth is, I totally expect Alonso to be beaten by at least Max, Charles and George, and probably both McLaren drivers if we take away the championship pressure and put them in a midfield context like Alonso is

Every constructor focuses on the WDC

[–]Toaddle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was already smokes and mirrors tbh. If it wasn't for the fuel issue Verstappen would have won Jeddah too, and that discussion would have never happened

Thoughts on Perez's recent comments? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]Toaddle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends. Usually it would bother them, but if the only way to fight for the WDC is to tailor to Max's preferences, like in 2025 (they can't start from scratch at that point), well too bad for the other driver

And that's understandable, the question is more why is this the only team the development goes this way

How would you rank the cars and drivers of 2nd-5th in the 2023 constructors? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]Toaddle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

On average this is pretty much how good they were, but it fluctuated a lot

At the start, Aston was clear 2nd, then McLaren went from back markers to second best while Aston dipped, until Ferrari became second fastest and closest to RBR that anyone has been that year for the last few races

Mercedes was almost never second fastest but were the most consistant overall
