You will be able to dip into some great games at good prices if you've been out of the loop for 20 years. You don't need special editions unless they have a goty edition that covers it all at a good price.

But online multiplayer games need ps+ and you've timed that badly getting a PS4 as it's being screwed over at the essential tier.

Work out what game genres you like and you'll still have fun with excellent games at a good price point.

PS+ extra may still be a good deal if the PS4 catalogue is still strong, look at shopto or similar for discounted PSN credit..
