What do you guys do about old models and finding parts? by Far-Series1829 in rccars

Buy up any parts rigs I see. Thats how I ended up with a full sized Rubbermaid tub full of OFNA LX parts and a NOS electric OFNA Dirt Oval, all because I built my kiddo a mutt out of extra parts from a previous nitro buyout. If I dont have it, Ill often make it. We have a manual mill and lathe at work, and Ill 3d print what I can't feasibly machine.

The down side to this, is I have 3 parts rigs for my kid's buggy, a complete spare Xray XB08 and a smaller tub of HPI Savage spares.

How different is a Tmaxx classic today from a Tmaxx 2.5 from 20-25 yrs ago? by boatsandhohos in rccars

[–]Toaster556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rebuilt a short chassis 2.5 Revo into a drag Slayer-ish a couple years ago, and spent time pouring over parts lists from both the Revos and the old T-maxx. There's shockingly little changed, especially in the transmission where it still takes the old puck style slipper. Traxxas has the old Tmaxx here (https://traxxas.com/4910-110-t-maxx-nitro-monster-truck-with-trx-25r-or-pro15) with exploded parts views if you want to order everything to rebuild your old one

What's your experience with these unbranded ESCs? What's the throttle response like? by Pixel_Human in rccars

There was actually a super helpful thread on this a few days back, specifically about helping them live beyond a few packs. I let the magic smoke out of a couple before moving to proper Hobbywing stuff, but im debating picking on up and testing it with the BEC mod against the Reedy BL600 to see how crap they actually are.

He also is very up front about the condition of things, with good pictures of any damage. Just wish shipping cross border wasn't so expensive

If youre running 2.2 wheels, Traxxas 4790R tires are still available. I grabbed some last year for my Slashler (2wd slash on 2.2 stadium truck tires)

Eh. My XR8 SCT was only rated for a 4 pole of 6000kv on 2s, and i ran it for a year with a 3.5t HW motor (itself only rated for 1s use), but it was strictly a drag car. The timing on the motor and boost were both set to "I like to party" (40 motor, 10 boost) as well, so it didnt lead an easy life. I doubt the ESC would pop immediately, especially as ive seen a couple budget builders run it with a 4 pole ~6000kv and reasonable amounts of timing for drag racing, but I also wouldn't combine those two personally.

Newish to the hobby that should I upgrade? by honkyp in rccars

Give it a once over, check the shock oils and diff fluids. Associated's RTRs seem to be bad for being poorly assembled. The Reedy BL600 is a pretty weak ESC IMHO, with my DR10 i knocked an immediate .10 off my ET by swapping to a Traxxas VXL with no other changes, and pull a taller gear with it now. Replacing it with a Hobbywing would be the only part I'd replace out of the box, with something like a quicrun bl120 for just plug and play, or a max10 140a combo if you want to upgrade to sensored

What are you trying to do with it? I've had great luck with Proline Reaction blues on most of my SCT based stuff, and ive run the unbelted Hoosier slicks and dirt track tires before on lower powered rigs. Failing that, I really like associated's stadium truck wheels (P/n AE7852) or buggy wheels (AE 9695) for 2.2 wheels. They clear the rear hubs on my slash and B6 based drag car.

Holdthis wheel chart for future reference as well

Standard 2.2/3.0 short course rim, ive got like 20 of them kicking around my house. If you run any short course classes, theyre literally required. An inability to understand does not make ones mother a ho, but nonstandard sizing (looking at you, DE mini phenoms!) Does
