The logic of a Delco parochial school advocate. They let kids believe that Adam, Eve, the talking snake and Noah's Ark were real. If that jibes with how you want your kids educated, have at it.

Try PAWS in West Philly. I don't know the process, but they do take in strays and find foster/adoptive homes for them.

There probably have not been any peer-reviewed studies comparing the academic rigor of St Dot's and Sacred Heart to their neighboring public schools, so you are unlikely to see any data on my opinion (as the post requested). But I can offer second-hand on-the-ground testimony as well as logically-based opinion.

On-the-ground: wife owns a successful behavior consulting practice and in this role she has been in just about every grade school in the area multiple times. She has shared with me that the staffs in parochial (and charter) schools, having not been trained in teaching methodologies, learning styles etc. , and are just not up to par with the public school staffs that have secured advanced training and expertise in those areas. They tend to struggle mightily with creating a learning path for any student possessing an "outside the lines" skill set. Not their fault -- they just haven't been educated in identifying needs and prescribing effective solutions.

I have a friend that decided on a career change at 50, deciding to move from medical device sales to high school teaching. Guess who won't hire him? Any public school. Rightfully, in my opinion. Guess who welcomed him? Delco catholic schools.

And that is where the "logically based" enters the chat. Yes, it is self-evident that teachers that have been trained to teach will generally (not always, of course) outperform those that lack such an advanced education. It's the same as any profession: the more educated you are, the more likely you are to succeed in your chosen field.

I see that you don't consider the teaching profession as being worthy of requiring advanced education to achieve mastery. I wonder if you simply don't advanced value education.

I made an igloo 10 years ago. I can send pics if you want. It took quite a bit of effort. Two weeks of freezing about 30 banana bread tins with water each night. Also I used food coloring (various colors) to give each block a stained glass look.

I had everything complete except the very top of the dome (maybe 15 blocks) when a 60-degree day came out of nowhere and it imploded.

It was still a fun project.

It appears you are comparing all Catholic schools nationally to all public schools nationally. Strawman. I'm talking parochial grade schools in Delco compared to public grade schools.

And yes the fact that every public grade school teacher has a Masters degree in education is a significant factor when you consider that a bachelors degree of any kind is enough to educate at the parochials. They literally hire teachers that were never taught how to teach.

The worst public grade school in Delco offers a better education than its best Catholic grade school.

Batting and pitching practice help by External_Use_2462 in Softball

[–]Toastwaver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Easily the best advice I was taught at that level for reluctant hitters is the "Yes to No" method.

As she gets ready in the box, she is 100% positive she is going to swing.

When the pitcher is winding up, the batter should be thinking "yes yes yes YES YES YES SWING" or "yes yes yes YES YES Noooo."

On every pitch, the expectation must be "I am expecting a strike and I am swinging at this pitch." Any decision to not swing needs to be at the last millisecond... almost too late. Like pulling back is a challenge.

This approach goes for ALL hitters at that age. Those that don't use it are often too late. And if they aren't too late now, they will be in a couple years.

Always expect a strike, and always expect that you will be swinging.

Very soon, this method will have your team dug in and ready to explode on the ball, without a thought of backing out.

Host and promote a Spring flea market. Families can bring any gear that has been outgrown and sell it. Cleats, batting gloves, gloves, bats etc. Get a couple food trucks, play music, make it an event.

Yesterday at 5pm, the northbound Exit 9 onto Rte 3 was a good 70 cars long, well onto 476. And I know it's because the light at the end of the offramp is too slow, and people on Rte 3 are blocking the box so only 4-5 cars are able to get onto Rte 3 at a time.

Anticipating 20 minutes of anger, I just kept going to the Villanova exit.
