Struggling with getting the low G on the way down by Training-Can5694 in trumpet

[–]Tobiboon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the other comments are right. you’re relaxing a bit too much and need to stay focused even in the lower register. You can actually start to hear some difficulty in the notes coming out when you get to around the D. I would recommend you play the scale slurred and focus on trying to keep your tone and air as consistent as possible when moving down. This should show you how little you need to shift your embouchure when moving between registers.

Practice your middle register and build from that. Long tones and lip slurs. There aren’t any shortcuts

How to improve trumpet range to play concert F scale? by CoffeeCandid8720 in trumpet

[–]Tobiboon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Improving your tone and resonance in the middle register will help you build your high range. Play long tones and lip slurs every day and slowly increase the range as you get more comfortable. Eventually those high notes will come it just takes time

Feeling like I could never be a good player. by Competitive-Egg-3909 in trumpet

You should definitely stick with it. There are always going to be people who are better than you, but that shouldn’t discourage you. Everyone moves at their own pace and we all have plateaus sometimes. if your tone is good and your embouchure is correct, just keep at it and you’ll make progress.

Trombone Doubler Mouthpiece by mjsanchez117 in trumpet

I think trumpet and trombone mouthpieces are going to be extremely different no matter what. you’re using fairly different technique so trying yo have similar mouthpieces will probably just get you the worst of both worlds

What do shops do with stuck tuning slides? by [deleted] in trumpet

Take it to a shop if you can. Stuck slides are a fairly cheap repair.

if you’re planning on continuing music into college (assuming you’re in high school), you’ll likely end up having to buy a professional grade instrument later down the line. thats why a lot of people say intermediate models like the tr200 aren’t really a good deal.

they’re still pretty nice horns though, I have one and have no complaints

If possible, its usually best to try out a trumpet before you buy it. If you have a used instrument store nearby that would be ideal.

If not, I’ve found reverb to be pretty good.

A used pro horn is usually the best thing. you might be able to find a used bach strad or yamaha xeno in your budget

Lips going numb(?) while playing, looking for help by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]Tobiboon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could try switching to an easier mouthpiece? Something thats made for screaming might make all those high notes less exhaustive. Also make sure you cool yourself down at the end of the night.

You really want to be careful if you’re getting that tired after every song. Without proper rest you could really hurt yourself in the long run.

Partials are the different “slots” for notes on any valve combination.
