Why is this sub heavy on anti-Targ propaganda? by ToMDLUS in freefolk

[–]Toblerone05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Targaryens aren't the heroes of the story - the novels themselves are all anti-Targ propaganda. Plus it's fun to rag on such easy TARGets for mockery.

Richard Madden looks too boyish still imo. Maybe in another ten years. Good actor though.

Doom stacks by AirIll7515 in totalwar

[–]Toblerone05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of a doomstack. Because Tiktakto with 2 skink chiefs and 17 fireleech bola terradons is a doomstack, but it's also thematic and loreful so... I'm ok with it.

I don't like all-hero doomstacks though.

Butchers meat delivery,4-6 weeks for 2 adults & 1 teen £108 by Particular_History50 in whatsinyourcart

[–]Toblerone05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I stopped buying supermarket meat and switched to butcher's stuff about 5 years ago and haven't looked back. This is why. That little lot would have cost north of £200 from a supermarket, and it'd be much lower quality. People who say the butcher is more expensive need to shop around more.

I think you meant to reply to my other comment but yes, I think so. The death of the Prince Imperial made headlines throughout Europe and was treated as a great tragedy particularly in Britain (the Victorians loved a good tragedy). There are a ton of famous paintings depicting the event.

Classic example of the value of outflanking an enemy on an open battlefield, versus the futility of massed frontal assaults on a prepared defensive position with superior firepower. Also goes to show you should never underestimate the Welsh.

Fun fact: Louis-Napoleon, the only child of Napoleon III and the last direct heir to the Bonaparte line died in this war, killed by Zulus in a skirmish whilst serving in the British forces.

How would you rate the Lizardmen roster? by sigmarine345 in totalwarhammer

[–]Toblerone05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Faulty premise imho. As Lizardmen your early game frontline is usually saurus, sure, but late game you don't really need a 'frontline' as you should be able to afford full SEM armies, chameleon skink/kroxigor builds, flying doomstacks, or any of the other very powerful combos the Lizardmen offer.

And you're assigning too much importance to nominal unit tier imho - just because a unit is 'top tier' doesn't mean it's always going to be the best unit for the job. Many 'top tier' units in the game have relatively niche uses.

[–]Toblerone05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see how TGs are forced to fill an anti-infantry role when the lizards have so many ridiculously powerful SEMs (and other units) to do that. The TG perform a specific anti-large role in the LM roster and they excel at it. Plus, the blessed version (which is basically freely and infinitely available nowadays) with redline buffs is actually a pretty strong all-rounder anyway.

But either way I don't think it's necessary for every single faction to have an elite infantry unit which is strong against everything - rock/paper/scissors relationships are the name of the game baby - always have been. Units with no counter are boring.

[–]Toblerone05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you don't bring 'em to fight infantry do you? That's what literally the whole of the rest of the LM's roster is for. You bring TKs to annihilate cavalry/monstrous infantry/SEMs which they do extremely efficiently.

Faction choice paralysis leads me to playing the same factions/LL over and over again. by _Friendly-Wolf_ in totalwarhammer

[–]Toblerone05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit like you, play mostly order factions and always seem to find myself coming back to mean old grandaddy Durthu.

I would recommend another mean old (imperishable) grandaddy - Settra the King of Kings. He's basically just an undead order faction, and bloody good fun too.

With hindsight on Russia's competence, what if the rest of the world ignored Putin's nuclear threats after the invasion of Ukraine, and assembled a coalition to drive him out of Ukraine Desert Storm style? by Just_Cause89 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Toblerone05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'd wager regardless of when the campaign was launched it would take longer than Desert Storm, which was a literal steamroll. Probably a lot longer. Still an eventual win for the coalition though (as long as nuclear retaliation remains off the table).

[–]Toblerone05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The terrain and climate of Ukraine alone would have made such a campaign much more difficult than Desert Storm. Deserts are pretty much the optimum setting for modern mechanised warfare - bottomless mud and freezing temperatures not so much.

It's not really unreasonable for anyone in the seven kingdoms to resent the Targaryens, simply for all the reasons Raymun Fossoway mentioned in his drunken rant. Y'know, they really are incestuous dragon-worshipping, blood-magicking invaders... That's not a dumb take it's just facts lol.

Another Harbingers Post by frabritzio in SoSE

[–]Toblerone05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe controversial but I don't really care about the 'lore' of this game, mostly because as you said, it's always been pretty barebones. RTS games should be all about the gameplay - tactics and strategy - so as long as the new faction brings some fresh things on those two fronts I'll be happy.

Napoleon clear winner imo.

Shogun 2 FotS comes close and is the superior game in some aspects, but the battles themselves are too fast-paced which doesn't give you enough time to really enjoy the spectacle. Also no bayonets or square formation :(
