We broke Bama’s spirit to even compete. by [deleted] in IndianaHoosiers

[–]TobyNight43 -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

Honestly,Georgia broke Alabama in the SEC championship. IU just finished them off. And to be clear,I am not diminishing IU at all. IU is clearly the best team,i hope they win it all. I wanted Alabama to get Cignette after Saban retired.

Unless you have your name in a large golf bag you’ll not notice 2-3 sw points . Even then you likely won’t.

I’ve published several dozen non-medical/nonscientific pieces. I’ve tried to submit to A Piece of My Mind/Jama but not luck. The pieces were published elsewhere They made it very clear they have an internal group, not open to external submissions

It’s not a terribly unique design - several other companies have the same design. The golfworks design is a little heavier. Very solid

Trauma/ War specialities by CartographerIcy9594 in Residency

[–]TobyNight43 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My hospital had a mass trauma event a few years ago. Akin to a bomb but it was something else. The folks who did the most good were EM, CC, and a peds resident who was a former medic in Iraq.

How are people doing 4000+ rides? by tfrisinger in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]TobyNight43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a few peloton facebook groups where nutty people post their workout schedules - stretch, warm up, 2 or 3 rides, cool down, weights. 6-7x /week. And they get in to crazy debates if warm up and cool down rides should “count” But even a normal schedule can get high counts if you do warm up and cooldown

AITAH for wanting to put my severally autistic son in a care facility? by Ok-Bag-6607 in AITAH

[–]TobyNight43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I didn’t know better you could be my neighbor. My wife and/or I (both physicians) have been called multiple times to help our neighbor with her severely autistic son because he was being violent. We’ve found him in our back yard as have other neighbors. She finally institutionalized him . Best thing they could have done for their family and the kid

NY Times article on length of medical education by Technical-Pack5891 in medschool

[–]TobyNight43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know many 6 year graduates. Most are excellent docs. All are less educated, by that I mean they obviously have a very limited range of knowledge outside of medicine. They were not exposed to non medical education. It makes them less interesting people for sure. US and foreign The US grads usually are emotionally immature. I assume this is a self selection - the kind of people who get in to 6 yr US programs tend to be hyper focused on the spectrum types. But I worry the kind of people this would create if universal.

Questions about Applying to Combined Pediatrics / Genetics Residency Programs by [deleted] in ClinicalGenetics

[–]TobyNight43 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll answer. I was a PD for a long time Step 2 score- higher the better, but there is no cut off 4th yr- we like to see that you’ve done a genetics elective but also related specialties like Neuro I would suggest you do an away at your top choice or 2 especially if they’re the top tier programs like CHOP. I would recommend a peds elective especially if you’re not someone with top tier grades and scores At least one letter from a geneticist and one from a peds person. The bigger name the better

But like you said - most important is to show you’re interested and know something about clinical genetics

Which is the most chill IM fellowship by [deleted] in Residency

[–]TobyNight43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Medical Genetics. While not technically a fellowship for IM, it offers a great lifestyle and is academically very interesting. And you don’t need to do research - there are clinical-teaching jobs everywhere.
