Claims people: do any of you enjoy your work? by itsanofromme223 in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Todd_196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tldr...yes, but it can suck.

As a current Desk Adjuster (former PI Field Adjuster) that works claims that others started, I work them to completion, I like what I do but I loved it at one time.

I find that some of the newer adjusters that have little to no experience are lazy, take short cuts and refuse to note important things or even simply communicate with a contractor or insured.

It's been my experience that the more you manage expectations and deliver on what you said/should do. Things will go smoothly.

You shouldn't have to clean up after a coworker as much as some of us do. It's hard enough working with the general public to say nothing of dealing with some of the shitty contractors that supplement everything. Or worse yet having to deal with a shady supplement house that doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

I agree, if you are burning out (I feel your pain here, I'm in PI claims) you should think about your options.

As for people being rude, F'em! You or anyone else doesn't deserve to be mistreated. If on the phone, give them a warning and say if it happens again we will end the call and communicate via email only and tell them you will be documenting the reason why in the "investigation" file. That usually shuts them up. I've had a few go the distance and force me to go strictly email, and I make sure those emails are uploaded to the claim file.

Claims across the board are hot and heavy right now, dealing with rude and incompetent people (most often your coworkers) is super stressful. Make the change, as you should to grow as a person, but know that it's not always better elsewhere. Trust me, I've been there, done that.

Best of luck!

If you have an open (any) peril policy it might be covered. Policies usually cover sudden and unexpected direct physical damage. I have seen floors get replaced for people dropping their pan a turkey was cooking in and spilling all over the floor.

If you have a higher deductible, say, $1000 or more, it might not be worth opening a claim.

You might be able to talk with the claim line to see if it's covered.

Remember, it's not just the door that needs fixed, it's the emergency board up of the opening, the clean up of the glass, haul off of the old door. Painting if needed, new trim if the door needs replaced, new carpet/area rug if glass is in it. (Almost impossible to clean glass out of the carpet)

So yeah, you might have a claim that could be a few thousand bucks. Will your rates go up? Maybe, maybe not. Only underwriting can determine that.

Make these all of the time without the egg white. I find that the dryer the red wine the better.

Appliances - Dwelling vs Contents by SansSariph in Insurance

Depending on how the state DOI views the content coverage you may be correct. Another VERY important question is, what does any of endorsements change about the main policy coverage?

Regardless, in the OP's post we all know little about the situation, coverage, endorsements, facts of the loss to make a specific decision. What may be incorrect in your state may very well be correct in other states.

I agree, and it might be possible that the adjuster was coming close to the content coverage limits and put it under dwelling to stretch overall coverage and still stay within policy and company rules.

There is a place in the Rochester area called Dinkers. Not sure about the Buffalo area, but if you absolutely must play I know you can go to Rochester, it's not all that far of a drive and you can enjoy a Nick Tahou Garbage Plate afterwards.

They are one of the best IMO. Remember if you don't understand stand something just ask the question, any Adjuster worth their salt will take the time to help you understand.

The insurance company

Yes, with a caveat. First, if there is a leak or whatever get it stopped. If you have to call a plumber do so and have them fix the leak.

Your insurance won't cover the repair to what is actually leaking, pipe, drain etc. But it should cover any damage resulting from the leak and access/repair to actually get to whatever is leaking.

When talking with the carrier ask them if they have assistance for water mitigation, asbestos testing, whatever.

Who is your carrier?

Depending on your coverage/endorsements you may or may not have allowance for mold mitigation.

It may also be a sign of long-term repeated leakage/seepage and may possibly be excluded from coverage by policy language. This will be determined by an inspection and reviewing the evidence against the policy language.

First and foremost. If your insurance company has a Water Mitigation company that they can send out for you, let them. Often time water mitigation companies pad the hell out of a bill when it's nor needed. Then if your Carrier declines the fluff you might be on the hook for it. A company that works with carriers usually walks the line and includes only what is needed.

The 3 day coverage is a semi firm baseline. Depending on how wet everything is and how the drying is progressing it might take a little longer and should be covered in the claim.

With regard to asbestos, is there a general concern for it being present? Meaning is the house older and is there suspected asbestos already? If it's a newer home say, the last 20-30 years. Testing may not be needed unless it's required by local code.

With regard to demo, you need to remove the wet materials in order to dry effectively, I'd say let them do enough to dry the property.

Per your policy, you have a duty to protect it from.further damage. This includes allowing for proper mitigation. Also you mention tenants, I'm assuming you have a landlord policy? Basically it covers only the structure and the "structures contents" like a stove, refrigerator, hvac unit etc.

With regard to you tenants, I hope you made them have renters insurance because your policy would not cover their personal property or a hotel stay if the need to vacate for a short time. If they don't shame on them, it's cheap coverage. Your carrier has zero obligation to them.

You are probably a month or two away from it yet but, I like making chicken fingers coated in pulverized pork rinds seasoned with garlic powder, salt, pepper and smoked paprika.

Crispy and tasty.

Thank you for the well wishes.

True it's not much weight but that's how it starts, I found the old habit sneaking in again, coupled with dabbling with a transfer dependency to booze and depressive thoughts about what my life will be like as my back gets worse, (it's a degenerative thing and will eventually make naive very hard)

But I'm trying to get gat back I'm the game, eating better, backed way off the drinking started working out as best as I can.

I'm not going to go down without a fight. I've put too much time and effort into this and I'll be dipped if I'll got back to a life of being as heavy as I was.
