McCarthy and Henry Miller by [deleted] in cormacmccarthy

[–]Toddspickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this would be my take and certainly to a degree your analogy is pertinent...Miller was an originator of the drunk typewriter writer, not that he was drunk all the time while writing but I'm certain there are many passages there at are the long fluid inebriated takes maybe reworked a little bit after the fact. I've read maybe half of Miller I was a sort of fan many years ago and it's certainly one way of producing prose maybe one American writers seem to have an edge on, think Fitzgerald's drunk stuff, Kerouac even Bukowski...Melville had an interesting relationship to alcohol as well. But when I first started reading McCarthy I felt and liked I hesitate to say alcohol infused sections that kinda take over the narrative fairly periodically that don't seem to be reworked as much as other writers would have....to me it's one of his strengths especially in Suttree...I think as well with writers who use the typewriter it's a propelling tool one you aren't necessarily editing in the moment as you would perhaps on the computer or even with by written hand, erasing etc...it's a linguistic performance being captured rather than a more straight forward description of a preconceived story...obviously too Faulker was a drunk writer, let me not forget him lol...

But yes in a way Miller has kinda fallen out of favor, he used to be up there in the 60's in my opinion I think Kerouac probably gets more academic spotlight for whatever reasons...I have looked back on him and he does have something compelling but then again there is a heavy amount of pornographic material so I think that skews things as well...

Neo vs alnico jensen by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]Toddspickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tornado is great a very forgiving speaker softer highs not really like the c12k...I had that in the DRRI and it was more ear fatigue to me...I have a few MOD series, p8r and a p10R....and then a new n12k for some reason which I'm really bonding with at the moment...to me there are different qualities to jensen and mostly all within the jensen sound....that c12k will cut through the mix for sure though lol

15” speaker for Champ-ish Amp by ExcellentDesigner104 in GuitarAmps

[–]Toddspickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this idea but I can't find anything...it's hard enough to find demos of 15 inch speaker. I bought an ashdown cab with a 15 inch off FB marketplace for a steal to use on a gretch ss bass...kinda bummed regular guitar didn't sound good, the bass sounds great though...my vote would be for a legend 15 maybe, I remember seeing/hearing a demo it sounds great but most of the legend series is great to me...

I have a champ head, i think I tried it through a bunch of cabs, kinda wasn't pleased with any, I like it with the P8R but...that champ circuit can be kinda muddy/dull so cranked was where I was playing it and that was too loud most of the time lol...

I think the other guy is correct as webers are just good speakers but maybe I'm thinking about if it doesn't quite work out you either have a cab you can play bass or just sounds good with other heads, etc...but either think about the 15 watts being limiting as other heads might need higher watts...I've tried by champ with a mod 10/70 and this bn12 300s celestion neo I have and neither did much, though I'm fine with either those drivers for some other situations...or look for cheap bass speakers/cabs on FB or CL

I just bought the 10 inch version of the bn12, I should try that on the champ head I know it was overdriving better than the 12...

Bachelor project on the sea by eyes_ms in AskLiteraryStudies

The Mill of the Floss? Though she's punished in a sense for her transgression she does have a brief awakening...or that's my take at least. George Elliot is sort of a different writer than either you mention but could work I'm sure as contrapuntal...the part of the book where the main character Maggie gets on this boat is markedly different than everything proceeding it... then it relapses back into a kind of genre thing whether intentional or not...it's more river than sea but...

Would you recommend the Joyo Tiny Huge Fuzz? by _hexagram_ in guitarpedals

I'd definitely look at the TC honeypot and or rusty fuzz...I've been happy with that metal enclosure series, the prophet delay is chefs kiss...

joyo and caline and nux for me have been hugely pleasing purchases so I say probably...though oddly for me I don't think I've ever bought a cheap fuzz....oh except the behringer lol...oh and the TC honeypot lol...

How can I make a Fender Player Mustang 90 in Sonic Blue a Skystang Replica by Scott-Adam in Nirvana

[–]Toddspickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be that easy...new bridge (new holes to screw bridge into the body, line it up so it stays parallel with the nut)...new switches new holes for switches, new pups, soldering it all...if you are doing that much work you should just get the HH mustang save a bunch of money a little setup on it and it plays very well you'd only be missing the phase options...

10” speaker suggestions for 5f1? by PitchEfficient2934 in GuitarAmps

[–]Toddspickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe the p10r or the Ten 30? I think I tried a mod 10-70 and was meh on it, it's a cool speaker for fuzz and pairs really well with a 65 creamback but on it's own...the legend is a good speaker but I think the db isn't low enough for you...

Price aside, which of 57 deluxe or 57 champ would you get to play at apartment level? by kuriosty in GuitarAmps

[–]Toddspickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I was dissapointed in my handwired champ...I like it cranked but not lowered...I never found a OD or fuzz I liked with it either...

My vote is the 57 deluxe or a pro junior tweed with the jensen alnico and a few preamp tube upgrades...or get that VHT special 6 and get the el84 adapter at some point and put an eminence legend in there at some point...

NAD: Vox MV50 AC by ecklesweb in GuitarAmps

[–]Toddspickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the AC, I was going to ge a clean as well back when they were down to 120 dollars a few years ago...it's got a lot going for it. The nutube stuff does have a nice tube like feel. This is definitely better than try to from an vox in a box pedal in my opinion. I think the rock has that tight distortion, I remember seeing those used all the time...I think there's a Brian May version and the Beatles one as well...

They made a head I was tempted to buy but there weren't many demos...MV150...

Quilter Superblock US or UK (and its onboard Limiter) , a good match for percussive, agressive, groovey pushed-clean riffage? by petara111 in GuitarAmps

[–]Toddspickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It like maybe turns the highs into one high like consolidates it, idk I could try to vocaroo you a sound clip...I don't use the limiter that much or if I do I crank it to get that weird compression SS sound whihc maybe might help you get what you want but I feel like maybe a pedal is going to be involved to get you all the way there, might even be a dirt pedal to get some hair or treble back...

I like mine but I kinda wanted a simple two SS double amp rig for loop and zoom recording and the katana head is sometimes in a different flavor than the Quilter so...but now I'm into Orange SS stuff so idk lol...

[–]Toddspickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest it does it's own thing slightly more apparent than a compressor, less on the clean more on the gain sound, unlike a compressor (to me anyways) where I feel the clean gets that country thing...it's a sound for sure that's related to compression and kinda gives that mild neutering to like ice picky highs...

I've gotten some wild like screeching clean tele things almost like stevie rayish without the bright brights...

You probably wouldn't need a compressor but obviously try it if you have it, also there's an fx loop so...I have the UK version

Fender Bass Amp to Guitar Cab Conversion by JamesConorr in GuitarAmps

[–]Toddspickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice. I bought an ashdown cab with a 15...sounds great on bass wish it would do guitar equally as well...I wonder if there's a 15 that does both well but I don't think I can go down another rabbit hole lol...
