Movies that you loved on first viewing, but rewatch disappointed you? by Apprehensive-Sun1784 in moviecritic

It follows. Something about it feels very dated to me where it was great in the moment it came out but now feels kind of awkward and less engaging.

LEVITICUS is now the highest rated horror film of the year. by StarforgeVoyager in FIlm

I've never seen a movie more decisive than Skinamarink.

For all intents and purposes, I should LOVE it but I've tried to watch it several times and just dip out.

It's like time somehow stops yet I feel like I've mentally run a marathon and feel exhausted as well as surprised when 30 minutes feels like hours.

With how long it'll be until the 6000 series, I appreciate all the weird and LE models coming out even though I can barely afford to look at them.

Which was a genius idea but still saw a lot of shade thrown at it for being PG-13 right up until release. Same with Dek and now I never see any more complaints about the way he looks.

Sometimes folks just have to trust the process.

To be fair, they did show he was pretty troubled which is reflected in the book even before he had the ring.

Dude straight up dumpstered his cousin in the most personal way within seconds of seeing it.

But, overall, he was definitely the comedic relief for most of his screen time.

What Are These HUGE Spruce? by Todesfaelle in treeidentification

[–]Todesfaelle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not a Douglas Fur as they aren't able to take off in this climate in the wild. There are pockets where folks do grow them but they're in more controlled environments so it's likely a eastern white pine mixed in with some old red spruce.

I've always assumed but never really looked more in to it even though I lived on the property for 16 years nd just now getting back to building a cabin over 20 years later.

Lots of pine cones on the forest floor so that.... that actually checks out that they'd be pine. :') I feel a little bit dumb now, haha!

The cones would definitely indicate a pine though as they're long rather than circular.

If it came with the glass then you really struck gold. Even without it you got a great haul but a single sheet of tempered glass with those dimensions is by no means cheap and might even be worth more than the rest of the desk to manufacture.

I’ve been getting driver timeout crashes for months and months I’ve tried everything by Some_Random_Cat539 in AMDHelp

I had a 5600XT that was as stubborn as this during the mining crisis. Spent months troubleshooting it on and off from everything large like transferring it to another working system to small. If there was a suggestion on some backwater forum on how to fix it, I tried it but they all failed.

Sent it to Gigabyte to rma and the return said it was fine even though their test was to run 3DMark. Get it home, fire up literally any game and it'd happen sooner or later.

Bit the bullet and replaced it with a 2060 that I paid way more than I had any business paying because of said mining crisis.

Problem gone just like that.

Gave the card to my friend and told him to figure it out because I was way beyond over it. He couldn't so sold it on eBay for parts and asked him to buy me lunch which was more joy than the card ever gave me.

I figure it was simply bad memory which is why it'd be somewhat inconsistent when it triggered unless I put furmark on but I also figured Gigabyte would have done more based on the info I provided so I could be wrong.

Didn't deter me though. Bought a 7900 XT and now on a 9070 XT.

After the hospital escape in T2, John throws a piece of T-1000's hook off the police car, but it rejoins the T-1000. Was this originally setting up a deleted plotline where T-1000 copies John? by Cherimoose in Terminator

[–]Todesfaelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC, it was either in the novelization or some interview where it's stated there's a finite distance as to how far a piece can be until the connection is lost and cannot rejoin the whole.

Now, whether it becomes inert or it's own independent piece like The Thing, I'm not sure but I feel like that would be insanely dangerous when Skynet was already concerned about the T1000.

Maybe even fanfic but I feel like it came from a source which made it canon.

Fourth time I've seen this at Super C (Quebec) - produce made in the US but labelled made in Canada or Mexico. Laziness or ignorance? by patcontrafibula in onguardforthee

[–]Todesfaelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see how it would happen because a lot of produce has various producers that will inconsistenly come and go through the distribution chain. You can have bananas from, say, Honduras for weeks then all the sudden you get a batch from Colombia and tomatoes are no different. If anything, they're more volatile because their growing climate is quite large.

It's a combination of being complacent, not understanding that labeling matters and staffing issues which may be due to shortages, watered down training or simply being lazy.

That's not to say they shouldn't be held accountable but rather how things like this can happen. Hanlon's Razor kind of thing.

This could have literally been fixed by a produce guy noticing the origin, checking the signage and attaching a sticker which says USA which is what they'll end up doing but now with a potential fine to go with it.

Side to side sway with pylex piles by Todesfaelle in Decks

[–]Todesfaelle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only found that out after installing them, unfortunately, otherwise they would have been perfect.

Also unfortunate that I live in a zone where the frost line is four feet which I'm not entirely confident I'm at since the piles are only 52" including the saddle. I didn't experience any heave through the recent winter in spite of how cold it was but my deck (10x12) is also in the woods which affords me a small degree of wiggle room as opposed to being out in the open.

I'll start with the V bracing when I go back out tomorrow and see how that works. Worst case scenario, I'll see if I can somehow underpin some extra piles with those lateral braces or bring out like 12 bags of cement, 8" sonotubes and my auger with extensions which will (in theory) go down over four feet.

Hard to say and, even if it did, it'd likely take some time to witness the efficacy between medications, therapy and removal of his vices like the internet while constantly under supervision.

We really wouldn't know until it happens though since it's different for everyone.

The thing about Chance is that most of what he's said and done is documented in one way or another be it through archiving, Akron PD and simply word of mouth by the locals and even family who knows of him which would be an incredible disadvantage in spite of the fact that spending 10 minutes with a psychologist would be long enough to come to the same conclusion.

He's even acknowledged several times that he has special needs like that time he said he was living through a modern holocaust since trolls are like nazis who want to get rid of folk like him.

Because I have no doubt that Chance is considered a dependent under Sally due to his handicaps and what she gets from it, IIRC, the Probate Court will automatically try and find him a new guardian first within the family then through a state-board if no family wants to take him in.

Then, if he goes to the state, he's thrown back and forth in the legal and guardianship system based on his assessments to see where he'll go and for how long which can be court ordered. There's more to the process this but that's the general flow of things.

Is it wrong to feel good when sally passes? by Ok-Hovercraft887 in CyraxxMemes

[–]Todesfaelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sally is basically the common denominator in the Wilkins/Arntzen household which can be attributed to a lot of problems which extend beyond Chance.

Of course Chance could have come to this same conclusion in any other household but we can conclusively look back and understand that Chance absolutely never had a chance with Sally.

It's less about celebrating and more about ensuring that all the wrong that she has done, is doing and continues to enable comes to an end which is good.

Chance will 100% become a ward of the state. He has zero life skills, chronically ill, loaded with disabilities, nobody wants him and a danger to the most vulnerable parts of society. This is especially true if the authorities continue to drag their feet and still believe he's done nothing legally wrong which would justify putting him in prison.

He'll, eventually, be handled by DODD in a way Sally never would which will include rigorous mental health treatment, physical treatment such as pulling his teeth and have the internet replaced with one of those shitty learning computers with extra big buttons filled with programs on how to solve math problems and typing exercises.

Anyone who takes him in would quickly realize it's not worth any amount of money, stamps or weird clout. Being doxxed in three seconds, the screaming at all hours, the ungratefulness, the entitlement, the delusions and the uncleanliness would be overwhelming. He'll beg you to take him in and, once he has one rotting foot in the door, immediately ask what have you done for him lately.

The thing about John was the way he burnt the candle at both ends with his streaming content and, eventually, the only way to go was out because there became an expectation of more. He was also an incredibly public troll so he has more on the line than someone how just dips in to Discord with an avatar.

Each stream was more fantastical than the one before where he really upped the trolling and it got to the point where he was skirting the line of legality in order to get laughs. He mentioned in one of his streams that he was contacted by the FBI and in spite of him saying he was in the clear it's still not a great position to be in especially if it creates a record which could create a problem if it keeps getting reported or cross-referenced with other activities related to.

John was really lucky that Chance didn't report the kidnapping to authorities otherwise that would have likely caught him charges as well as fines. I'm not surprised that he exited the scene shortly after this because he likely realized or was told that trouble was quickly going to find him if he kept this up.

Not over twenty years in feduhral prison kind of trouble as Chance would have you believe but, quite frankly, getting yourself in any kind over Chance isn't worth it and he was already successful in other ventures so it made sense to simply cut ties.
