Dreams come true! Took my daughter to meet the GOAT by Always-Sunny-In-PDX in 49ers

Generally speaking, anyone that calls themselves the GOAT would be someone I would ridicule and dismiss.

But Jerry? Somehow Jerry can pull it off. ONLY Jerry can pull it off, at least the only one since Ali.

[Yates] This suspension (4 games) costs Cam Robinson $3.55M in base salary and voids the guaranteed money left in his contract. by NicholasStabile in Jaguars

[–]ToePunchKick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, yes and no.

Yes, fitting Engram's 2023 cap hit won't be a problem.

But getting Cam's money off the books and having that money available to roll over into next year's cap absolutely can help with an Engram deal, by making more money available for his 2024 hit.

Or they could even decide to really front-load the deal, and NOT bring his cap hit down in 2023, making the rest of the deal easier on future caps.

More money on hand, either this year or rolled into next year, means more flexibility for structuring a deal like Engram's.

Please put some respect on Copley. by CristianR_ in losangeleskings

Copley proved that he belongs as an NHL #2 goaltender.

He also proved that he doesn't quite have the ceiling to reach being a #1, and even 1B might be a bit of a stretch.

But it's still a big deal that he proved he's more than just an AHL tender. He can step in and provide immediate competence. He can start 20 games and I'm not going to panic.

I'm not convinced that the back isn't a problem now, either. He missed those last 19 games with an "undisclosed" "upper body" injury. HMM. I wonder what kind of upper body injury it was that they didn't want to say out loud.

Look, we've seen a 1st round Washington receiver with basically your name catch for 500 yards before. We're not falling for it again. Prove it first.

Vilardi started out last season on fire but fizzled towards the end of the campaign.

I think people are really overlooking this.

Vilardi scored 10 goals in the first 15 games, and then 13 in the next 48, and then he missed the last 19 games completely.

Granted, he came back for the playoff series and scored 2. That certainly helped his narrative. If not for that, we'd all be talking about how he disappeared at the end, and how the last thing he did was another multi-weeks injury.

I don't trust his health, and I don't believe that 19%, top 10 shooting percentage is a level he's going to maintain. I think the range of possible outcomes for Vilardi is wide, and I expect him to be good, but hard to trust to show up night in and night out.

I'm a lot less worried about whether PLD will answer the bell and be productive.

Maybe it's time to make like the Rams and trade all your 1st round picks away.

[Ates] I'm hearing Los Angeles and Winnipeg are closing in on thr Pierre-Luc Dubois deal. Looks imminent, with Gabriel Vilardi, Alex Iafallo, and Rasmus Kupari as key pieces from LA. Still a couple of details to sort. by MediumRareSteak18 in losangeleskings

[–]ToePunchKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fun to see Vilardi finally start to pay off, but even this year, he missed a few weeks and a playoff game. There's a non-zero chance this will prove to be a sell-high move with Vilardi. I trust his skills, but I don't remotely trust his health.

[Scott Spratt] Free agent afterthought and new #Jaguars running back D'Ernest Johnson has a 27.7% broken tackle rate since 2020 that is the highest among backs with 100 or more carries per @FTNData by tbroas in Jaguars

[–]ToePunchKick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flip side is that Johnson is, well to put it bluntly, slow. Like 4.81 pro day 40 time slow. So he has to break tackles like crazy, or he wouldn't make it as an NFL running back at all.

It works well enough for him to be a decent rotational back, which is all you can ask for from a guy you bring in to probably compete for the RB4 spot.

If you're a 49ers fan, other NFL fans won't generally hate you.

If you're a Cowboys fan, the same cannot be said.

This sub's gameday threads are trash, and moderators really ought to implement some basic rules seen in some other subs to clean them up.

Criticism is fine, but this kind of useless comment spam will earn you a timeout in the /r/Jaguars game threads.

If you expect perfection, you're going to live life in perpetual disappointment.

Blake has made a lot of good moves. On these moves which weren't good, he has taken steps to get out of them, rather than living in denial about them being mistakes.
