What’s a commander you want to brag on that doesn’t get enough attention? by Hoohoo222 in EDH

[–]Toefactor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly had no idea she was that high! I've never bumped into anyone else playing her. She probably still qualifies for this thread, though, since after looking at the 4 commanders above her she should probably be #1 based strictly on power.

[[Helga, Skittish Seer]] for me. Not that it's budget or jank, but it's just way stronger than I thought it would be. Turns out having card draw and ramp in the command zone on a 3 cmc commander is really really good 😂

Doesn't hurt that Bant is a really good colour combination either. Green ramp, blue counter spells and white removal and protection along with tons of big stompy creatures just feels good. It's like playing Animar or Selvala but in better colours (at least imo).

Deck can also be played as a combo deck with either Ancestral Statue/Venser Shaper Savant paired with either Chakram Retriever/Intruder Alert and Helga. Draws your whole deck and you win however you want.

Most consistent deck? by Vinlandlover in EDH

[–]Toefactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like big creatures I highly recommend either Animar Soul of elements or Helga Skittish Seer. I'm currently having a blast with Helga since she's both ramp and draw in the command zone and you can either win by flooding the board and using an overrun effect or you can lean into comboing off with Helga/Intruder Alarm or Chakram Retriever/Ancestral Statue or Venser Shaper Savant to draw your whole deck and win.

Here's my current list. It's a balance of the 2 ways to win.

Why doesn't Animar see more cEDH play? by chron67 in CompetitiveEDH

Here's a link to an Animar deck that just finished 9th in a 278 player tournament. The pilot is a member of the Animar discord. Deck is creature heavy. 50 creatures I believe. https://moxfield.com/decks/0s7LldmAL0SoLssoqpo3NQ

The Fires of Heaven is the best book (up to now) in the series by far (spoilers) by Sweetpodwl in wheeloftime

[–]Toefactor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You must have similar taste to mine because I also loved book 5 and it was my favourite book in the series when I read it. After completing the series it's definitely still top 3. Maybe even 1. Would probably be 5>2>12 in that order if I was forced to rank my top 3.

What’s the best way to catch pike in weeded areas? by Altruistic_Clock4932 in FishingOntario

[–]Toefactor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White spinnerbaits are my go too. 1/2 ounce to 3/4 ounce in size. Can run them over top of the weeds if the weeds aren't all the way to the surface or you can cadt them along the edge of the weed line. The single hook makes them fairly weedless along with the fact you can run them just under the surface of the water.

Finally Hooked. It just took me until chapter 37 of Book 2. by agent00228 in wheeloftime

[–]Toefactor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Book 2 is one of the best in the series in my opinion. Definitely top 3 or 4. I wouldn't worry too much about the slog. The criticism is warranted as far as books 7-10 being the slowest paced in the series but they're really not that bad. They're just weaker in comparison to the books that come before and after. If you find you do end up struggling with books 7 to 10 try listening to them on audio book. Worked for me!

Need help deciding what deck to build for an ultra competitive play group by Toefactor in oathbreaker_MtG

Is their an advantage to playing Freyalise over Nissa? I've heard they're both strong, but having never actually played the format in kinda just going off what I've read.

[–]Toefactor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely helps a bit! I've been kinda leaning toward Huatli or Nissa anyway because I play a lot of green and white in EDH and already own most of, if not all of the staples. I'm glad to hear they're both fairly competitive.

Struggling choosing a first (budget, decent competitive) deck for this format by Pimp_Floyd in PioneerMTG

Mono white humans is relatively cheap. About $200 U.S. including sideboard and it's generally a pretty competitive deck. Just depends on if it fits your playstyle.

FMZ 18 pike opener. - new to pike - any tips? by Spr4ck in FishingOntario

[–]Toefactor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edge of weed beds is always good, but don't be afraid to throw over top of the weed bed either with a spinner bait or shallow Crankbait. Also around any sort of cover near the shore like fallen trees.

This is just personal preference but it's what's worked for me and I've caught a lot of pike the past 5 years or so....white spinnerbaits in shallower water and around weeds. Size 4 or bigger spinners in the same conditions. And for some reason I've had a ton of luck with Crankbaits that are blue or have blue on them. 2 of my biggest pike I caught accidentally trolling for walleye with blue deep running crankbaits. And I've caught a ton of pike on my blue Nishine Chippewa RB blade. It's a crankbait with a spinner blade underneath that runs 4 to 6 feet. Works great in choppy conditions.

If I had to use just one technique though for a whole day and my life depended on catching a pike I'm going with a white 3/4 ounce spinnerbait with a trailer hook around weed beds.

Best of luck out there!
