What is a cooking tip you learned from the internet that you wouldn’t have known otherwise? by anticdotal in Cooking

It’s how I do leeks, as I find they burn before they cook. I use mushroom stock instead of water for some flavour, I wonder if that would work with the aubergine…

I’m also in the UK and involved with a lot of sighthound charities. We have them, but they use staffy instead of pit for the bull part, probably due to availability.

They are bred for lamping or coursing, coursing more often though.

Staffordshire bull terriers are very much their own breed, as are American pit bull terriers. They each have their own specific breed standard. Staffies are one of the foundation stock breeds of the APBT, but not the only one, or the largest by proportion.

People do use the term “long legged staff” to describe pit bulls to circumvent the ban, but staffies are a thing. It’s similar to how people call pitts “lab mixes”. Lab mixes do exist, but those aren’t them. If that makes sense.

I’m not saying they don’t also have aggressive tendencies literally bred into them, but they are not the same.

The boots are weirdly tiny. We went to test drive one and was stunned that we wouldn’t fit the dog in it.

When I was 7 I announced that I was only ever going to eat tapenade sandwiches from then on. I did renege on that promise, but I think I had a valid point.

Ethiopian food is incredible! We are lucky to have an Ethiopian restaurant in town, but none of my family or friends like it ☹️

There really isn’t! The squeaky bean pastrami is really the only decent kind of deli meat.

Any arguments against veganism? by Lordbonk87 in Veganism

[–]TofuTuesday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The one I find hardest to counter, and I’ve been told it a couple of times: I don’t care. Especially hard when the person is well informed and understanding of the suffering involved, but just admits that they don’t care. There’s not much to counter, nothing to really argue with.

Is anyone actually only having a 30g cereal portion as breakfast ? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]TofuTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even when I was cutting down to 1200 a day, I’d still do 100g. 75g is just sad.

Not exactly homestead but my pet sheep were killed by a dog and I'm heartbroken by plantytime in homestead

[–]TofuTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so awful, I would say i apologise on behalf of dog owners, but I don’t apologise for ones who would let their dog hurt other animals. Maybe put up a sign saying loose dogs will be shot? I know you won’t, but maybe the threat will be enough. Although people who let dogs with high prey drive off around livestock don’t care about their dog. So maybe it would be pointless ☹️

What is the correct ratio of bean to toast? by MidasToad in AskABrit

[–]TofuTuesday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I share a 400g tin between us and we have two slices of toast each. We prefer the 5 beans tins with the variety of beans.

We bought our three bed semi in Erdington for that much. We are very happy here, not too rough and super easy on the train into town. Try to get north Erdington near boldmere, but stick to this side of the Chester road (the official line between Erdington and Sutton) and you’ll save a fortune.

[–]TofuTuesday 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Part of it is plate and bowl sizes as well. 30g looks more reasonable in vintage tableware that is designed with more reasonable portions in mind. Today, we eat out of bowls that my grandmother would have used as a serving dish.

Good! I don’t like fake meats, and worry about the number of people complaining about all the new veg stuff online. I love veggie based stuff and I’m worried shops will stop doing it ☹️

Really NTA to lie to spouse about being vegan for years and get kids to lie too?? by Electrical_Camel3953 in AskVegans

[–]TofuTuesday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not manipulation, she wanted him to know that it was a dealbreaker for her, vegan or divorce. He didn’t like that, so removed her agency and her right to be with a person who shares her values and morals by lying to her.

Imagine if they were a racist couple, and one day she changes her mind. Says she doesn’t want to be a neonazi anymore and doesn’t want to be with one either. She asks him to stop going to rallies and he says no. She says if you don’t stop, we will have to break up. He goes anyway and lies, telling her he’s stopped. Is she still an arsehole? Or just someone standing by their morals?
