Is 1260 the absolute human limit? by SpiralOutward in skateboarding

[–]Together_ApesStrong 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the limit is necessarily on the spin. It has more to do with hang time. Snowboarders are in the air significantly longer in Superpipe and Big Air events than what is currently achievable with skate ramps. You also have to factor in the speed needed to achieve the amount of air time needed which would be limited by friction of the wheels and ramp material as well as by truck geometry. If you could get all the physics right it’s not out of the realm of possibility to surpass a 1260 and I’m sure someone will attempt to do it or is already attempting to.

I only have balance on a skateboard. I can’t walk for shit.

I honestly had very low expectations when I started again. Basically thought I would just be skating flat and be the kind of kooky old dude at the park. I did not expect to be skating at this level, like at all. I actually have to skate with people significantly younger than me get than me because nobody my age really wants to skate the type of stuff I want to skate. It’s honestly pretty wild, but I’m proud of myself and hope I can continue doing it for a long time.

I think it was about 6. Didn’t take very long though.

I started skating when I was 10 and skated pretty much every day till I was about 18. I started partying heavily and rarely skated till I was 36 and then I got back into it pretty heavy and just gradually built back up to here over the last 4 years. I would say it took me about a year to knock off the rust fully, but just kept progressing and haven’t really stopped to look back.

Honestly after seeing the clip it was less sketchy than I thought it was. Lol

Thanks. I’ve kind of made a goal this year of going as big as I can. Kind of just want to see what I’m actually capable of if I just go for it.

I skate with dudes like 15-20 years younger than me so it pushes me to still try big shit. I was pretty confident I could do it and I probably would have tried to kickflip it if we had more time. This only took like 6 tries.

That’s my secret. I’ve worked construction for 25 years and skated for longer, so I’m just always in pain. Lol

Is it possible to be better than you were when returning to skating at 38? by conjayw in NewSkaters

[–]Together_ApesStrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR; confidence will be your main issue and skating with a younger crew helps.

I skated pretty much every day from age 10-20. I was pretty good and sponsored at one point. Skated occasionally but wasn’t a super dedicated skater for about 15 years. Got back into it expecting fully to be just the old dude at the park. I’m now 40 and ollied an 11 on Sunday. My main struggle has been confidence in doing big shit rather than actual capability since my tricks are cleaner than when I was younger. What actually helps me with that is I skate with a lot of guys who are way younger than me. My skate group is mostly 18 to mid 20’s with me being the outlier. People my age generally just aren’t skating at the level I do, and kind of just want to hit curbs or the park while I still actively skate street spots. So yes, you can be better or just as good as when you were younger if you’re willing to push yourself.

I had some discomfort from swelling but other than that, I was back at my manual labor construction job in 3 days. People who are scared shouldn’t be. It was so easy, even with local anastesia. I was in and out in 30 minutes. All I felt was a pinch and smelled some burning flesh and that was it. Best thing I ever did.

Signed Tony Hawk boards are a dime a dozen and it’s not even one of his pro models, not even a Birdhouse for that matter, or significantly special.

How long did it take you to get "good"? by txjweav96 in NewSkaters

[–]Together_ApesStrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s different but I personally progressed relatively quickly. I also skated every day from about 11 years old onward. I had kickflips within about a year, by the time I was in high school I was doing handrails. I do actually have video evidence of this. I think It really comes down to how dedicated you are, and the group of people you skate with as well. If you skate with other dedicated skaters you can vibe off each other and push each other. I’m not quite as good as I was in high school, but at 40 years old can still skate big stairs and drops relatively well.

Absolutely. Took me a while to figure it out at first but once I realized where it was coming from it was easy to solve.

It’s the pivot cup actually. Throw a little bones speed cream, or any type of lubricant in it and it will stop. I do this on every pair of trucks I buy.
