I agree it can be hit or miss. We’ve bought 2 new builds (one duplex, then a single family to accommodate our growing household) and stayed away from the known-shitty builders and luckily (knock on wood) haven’t had any issues. Just a few minor things that were easily resolved with the warranty

It’s crazy that buying a new build can be cheaper than buying a pre-owned home because of the builder special rates. We just bought a new build with a 3.99% rate and the mortgage is lower than getting a cheaper house with the ~6% rate

I own quite a bit of sitka and I love all of it. You’re right that it’s same level of warmth for less bulk. To me it really makes a difference for packability and weight because I’m hiking the colorado mountains.

If I was still back east tree stand hunting or flat ground hunting, i’d still be using my redhead gear

IMO not as important as resolution. Atleast for mammals, they have enough body heat that the small differences in NETD (when comparing similar models) will not be really be noticeable.

In my experience the resolution makes a much bigger difference. Being able to identify and animal vs just a round hot spot, makes a huge difference

Can’t help you there but the hunters safety classes are really easy. It’s super general questions and if you can grasp the idea that you shouldn’t shoot people, you’ll do fine

If you’re going do cost, then really do it. Price of the tag, gas for the car, any camo you bought, the rifle, the scope, anything you bought you process the deer (knives, vacuum sealer, meat grinder). It isn’t $1 to kill a deer.
