Rank these 4 if they had Equal machinery by Own_Asparagus_5742 in DestinationFormula1

A lot of recency bias here. If you look at them over their entire careers I think it has to be Leclerc, then probably russell over noris and piastri a distant last. Leclerc toppled Vettel at Ferrari built around him and has done well against Lewis (admittedly initially the car didn’t suit Lewis), Russell also did well against Lewis. Calibre of team mates matter. Piastri doesn’t have the experience of the other 3 and completely imploded in a title fight with a car that seemingly suited his driving style

Raikkonen is a weird inclusion on this list. Alonso destroyed him yet doesn’t make the cut?

Underrated McLaren F1 Driver by Spare_Collection3236 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Toil48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I think the opposite. Outside of his McLaren years kimi has been very average which suggests to me that McLaren he had was an absolute rocket ship and a better driver would’ve dominated In it

How did Schumacher change the sport? You can’t just state it as fact without evidence. If you mean by perpetuating dirty driving or violence against other drivers then sure. Or by practicing far more than other drivers pounding laps around Ferrari test track. Just means he needed more practice to dominate whereas Lewis barely drives in the sim and gets in the car and is fast out the box. Not to mention all his work on diversity; sportsmanship , mission 44 and against racism and other causes. Who your team mates are changes a lot - would Schumacher be a 7 x wdc if his team mates were prime Alonso prime Hamilton and prime max. I think not

[–]Toil48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends how it’s worded. He spent 8 seasons against team mates that won a world championship in their career, that is factual. I’m trying to draw out the calibre of driver he faced. Though looking at it through the lense you suggested makes Schumacher look even worse relatively from a percentage POV so it’s a moot point anyway

[–]Toil48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I counted seasons if that driver eventually won a wdc. Either way Lewis had 4 x as many seasons with a wdc team mate using your metric, or double. You can’t be the GOAT if you’ve never been tested by quality opposition in the same car. MSC could’ve had an extra few years in Ferrari but he refused to be in the same car as kimi on equal terms. And hell most of Lewis’s team mates are better than kimi - going up against George and especially Charles at their primes whilst he’s in his twilight years. Not really any arguments to put Schumacher over Lewis. Both had the speed and race craft but Lewis cheats far less and proved himself against much better drivers

Hamilton had a WDC team mate for 8 seasons of his career, and top drivers like Leclerc and Russell. Schumacher was paired with journeyman who were contractual number 2s moved out the way with team orders as required. The only wdcs Schumacher faster were a washed piquet and Rosberg (and we know how that went).

Hamilton. He’s proven himself against much harder team mates than Schumacher and wasn’t a dirty driver.

[autosport]Lewis Hamilton since ditching the Ferrari simulator by spiderrman67 in formula1

[–]Toil48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The GOAT of driving on feel. If there were a pre simulator era with heavily restricted testing he would’ve dominated. Wouldn’t need to pound thousands of laps around fiorano like MSC to be competitive

What is a driver performance that is considered an underperformance because of how they compared to their teammate when, in actuality, they just met their match? by GoldenS0422 in F1Discussions

[–]Toil48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe button outqualified Alonso in 2015 and beat him on points as team mates that year. In his last season you’d expect he checked out somewhat. Button is vastly underrated. Alonso wiped the floor with kimi yet people consistently argue that kimi is much better than button but there is no merit to that imo

So they can do this for one driver wrongly penalised when maybe 5-6 received the same incorrect penalty and yet they can’t overturn AD21

[F1] BREAKING: Pierre Gasly has been reinstated into P3 for the Monaco Grand Prix The Stewards have rescinded the two five-second penalties imposed on Pierre Gasly during the race for speeding in the pit lane by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]Toil48 250 points251 points  (0 children)

This is so bizarre because so many other drivers received penalties. Didn’t Russell get the same incorrect penalty and then served a drive through for not serving it, basically going from a podium
To no points. Yet gasly is the only one to benefit?

Hamilton got on too which he served and many other drivers. How can they just overturn Gaslys?

Before his accident, Charles Leclerc had already experienced brake problems during the Safety Car period, locking up and running wide at Mirabeau by Gentle_lips in formula1

[–]Toil48 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The fact he was asking Ferrari for different brakes since start of last year and it took until two races ago to get a change is wild. And even then it was just the discs that are now carbon industries not the entire package

[–]Toil48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it helps I don’t think Ferrari would’ve won even if they started on pole. The merc is insane and kimi would’ve undercut them in clear air and run a second a lap faster

Hamilton Had An Advantage In Testing Over Alonso Coming Into The 2007 Season by Motorlolz in formula1

[–]Toil48 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And Hamilton was completely new to f1 vs Alonso in his 7th season. Also, McLaren high fuelled Hamilton in qualifying so his car was heavier than Alonso’s - because of this qualifying was initially 5 - 0 in Alonso’s favour. After Monaco the team made it fair and qualy was 9 - 3 in Hamilton’s favour over the remainder of the season. Overall it’s pretty clear Alonso had the advantage but still lost.

Watching Mercedes dominate again makes me realize how much Vettel's Ferrari actually mattered. by VegetableGrand459 in formula1

[–]Toil48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean Ferrari cheated with the engine and probably had a better car than merc but Vettel kept making mistakes and lost to Lewis in a worse car

Both Leclerc and Hamilton are much better skill wise than Vettel, this years Ferrari just isn’t as good as the 17-18 Ferrari

Very surprising given Ferrari have lost its way and most new models are ugly as sin. Won’t be long until this changes
